Caroline Kennedy's qualification to be a United States Senator starts by being raised in a family that has been in the mainstream of US politics. The fact her father was the President of the United States, two of he Uncles were and/or are United States Senators, one Uncle was US Attorney General, shall I go on. You learn a lot growing up in that environment. She would have instant access to people in all levels of government as well as in both major political parties. Sounds like a good choice to me.

This would be an selection much like the VP choice of Sarah Palin was for McCain. Sarah basically got it because of her gender. Caroline Kennedy has no practicle campaign or political experiance and she has some rather sharp attitudes that would make her a rather extreme choice.

It would be nice to see MA has three Seantors again but I don't think so. She would have to contest the seat in 2 years against Rudy unless he runs for Gov. or maybe even Bloomberg. I think Rudy would sink her.

In my opinion Caroline Kennedy would be an excellent choice for this position for several reasons. First and foremost she has been in the political eye her whole life and understands the inner workings of the political monster. Second, with the new regime in Washington and Obama's team taking a more personal view on the country and actually caring about the people who help keep this country going, Caroline's philanthropic background she would fit right in the with the new philosophy. Chuck Shumer paid his dues in the House of Representatives before he became senator. What dis this woman ever do to deserve a senate seat except for being born with the Kennedy name? Politics has simply become the next frontier for " celebrity sightngs." I'm waiting for Oprah Winfrey to be nominated for Ambassador to Britian. New York State will be facing a host of problems both severe and complicated. This state needs an experienced politican well versed in state politics who will be able to navigate the treacherous waters of Washington. Caroline Kennedy is no more equipped to move into this position that Chelsea Clinton or Jenna Bush are. Being the children of famous politicans entitles them to jumping the line and getting a photograph with the current tennant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Qualifications are determined by those who are authorised to do recruiting -- Not June Bug or I or anybody else except, in this case, the Governor of NY. Just like the qualifications of Barack Obama for the President will be determined by the members of the electoral college when they meet.
