I like Al, but I hope he doesn't convince Obama about a gas tax. If you want to encourage people to buy and drive fuel efficient vehicles, there are better ways, such as putting a significant surcharge on the sale and perhaps resale of all gas guzzlers (whether made by US or foreign companies). The gas tax is particularly hard on the little guy already struggling to make ends meet. Hit the person about to buy that brand new non-hybrid SUV and encourage them to go with a greener, more fuel efficient vehicle instead.

I respect Al Gore but think he is better being independant and someone who is not tied to any administration. As advisor and promoter, great! As policy maker he may have more power to push laws but less power to rally the people to a cause.

Thank you President Obama for recognizing a true American hero and patriot when you see one. Al Gore is a wonderful person, I've know him for a long, long time. He and his wife are really great people, real Christians (not pretend ones like the adulterers of the Repugnant party - ronald reagan & john mccain). He is qualified to be Sec. of Energy or Environment anyday of the week, he was overqualified to be President of the US, that is why we got stuck with howdy doody for 8 years.
When he was a young US senator he came to my small hometown in Tennessee where I was serving as Vice mayor, he helped me shut down a plant that was buring illegal chemicals at night after everyone else had gone to bed. I had a nurse who worked 3rd shift see it, she contacted me, I met here there at 3:00am and saw and smelled it myself. We had had lots of people living in that town close to the plan who never smoked diagnosed with lung cancer - he was very helpful to me and he is a good person that actually cares more about his fellow man than his bank account or (Bush)Daddy's oil business.

I am glad you brought the subject up Richard. People need to be reminded what Gonzogate is all about. Obama should ask for the resignation of them all as a matter of course at the start of his administration which is his right and is what most presidents do. That is far different than selective firing some of them mid-term for not yielding to political pressure to instigate political prosecutions for the benefit of the party instead of working for justice and the country.

Al is the right person to talk to to get an update on the enviornment and names for the EPA position. Al would not take it and Obama won't offer it to him, but Obama is doing the right thing by having talks with him, which is something Bush refused to do. It's the right thing at the right time.
