Regardless of what Rush thinks, Jesse Jackson Jr. has been stained with this and we Illinoisans will not stand for a Senator who may have attempted to purchase the office. Jackson should probably stay in his current position, and if he is interested in the Senate seat, run for it in the next election.

I am concerned that the legitimacy of the seat has been damaged -- first that must be restored, <i>then</i> we can worry about restoring Jackson.

Jesse Jackson, Jr. is an extremely capable, bright, and arrogant politician. So, he gets some comeuppance here which can't hurt.

What can hurt is that everyone who legitimately showed interest in this senatorial opening will be tarred with the sticky goo of Illinois' goof-ball governor.

The last honest person to run for the office of governor in the state was Glen Poshard, a downstate Democrat who wouldn't play ball with Chicago.

If the Democrats in Illinois want to show some cred, appoint Poshard to fill out Obama's term. He is the last Democrat standing in Illinois who has nada to do with the cretin presently occupying the Governor's office.

Obama , nor his organization, had little to do with Blogojevich before, during, and after the presidential campaign, but his silence when he could have done something about Blagojevich may come back to haunt him.

But not so much. We need him too badly now.

Repugs are going to have to wait for another BJ in the WH.

Wow, you guys are brutal, which I really don't understand. First of all, I disagree with Bush on, well, pretty much everything, and I do feel that he will go down in history as one of the worst Presidents we have ever had. With that said, all I am saying is that political dissent is actually very healthy for democracy, which I guess others (ahem, Obama supporters) pretty much disagree with. I do plenty of good for my community...I'm a new lawyer and as soon as I get my student debt under control, I fully intend to work in public service (perhaps in the public health sector, which will enable me to utilize my Master's degree).

So, I don't really appreciate the personal attacks, which I guess were leveled against me simply because I am not necessarily singing Obama's praises on here. I'm also not criticizing him either, but I guess that's beside the point. And for the person who asked how my comment was relevant to the FR blog entry, I can only assume that you failed to read my opening line (which stated that my comment was meant for the previous blog entry).

I really don't understand how Obama supporters can be so divisive...I mean, Obama's message was about one America. That's something I'd like to see, but reading these comments, I don't hold out much hope.

are you that blind: did you see the listing of the most corrupt cities in america today? in one illinois was rated 6 and another illinois was 18. the metrics were different for each rating, but the fact is illinois is not the most corrupt state in the u.s.

those of you that want to judge someone guilty remember that the ag (fitzgerald) has said junior has done no wrong.

i ask this one question. what if you were accussed of something you didn't do and it cost you something that you worked hard for (let's say your job)?

what if you were denied your rights and put in jail with out a day in court? should we now stop being america? is not our rights within the constitution for everyone not just us when we think we need it for ourselves?

as a vet i believe in these constituional rights that some seem to be able to dismiss so easily. the people who die for this country are shedding and have shed their blood for those very rights.

these constitutional rights apply to all americans no matter if it is a trashman, teacher, nurse, cashier or politician. it is one of the things that make us great.

it is not a liberal, conservative or centrist value. it is an american value that we all have as citizens of this great country.

I heard of a guy from my frat from NIU in Dekalb Il who ran for a IL Senate seat as a republican. I heard that he wanted it because he believed in the republican platform and thought he could bring in a large black vote to republicans since he was black, a college athlete, successful etc. It could also be said that he wanted it because the job paid well, had a good retirement plan and he could get status to improve his investment business, with out having a 9 to 5. I don't know which was the correct reason. He graduated about 13 to 15 years before me. From what I know about him he is not a bad guy, but he may not have the same intentions I think Obama has. Quid pro Quo is a part of politics unless you finance your own run or can get the kind of stardom that obama got in order to run for senate. I'm from a little north of chicago, and you just don't see people that have ties to big money or old money run for office. Its still one of the great towns in the US, but the politics can be 'smash mouth'. the people that do run have to deal with tough people. Ram emanuel is probably a tough politician because the 5th will make you one.

But I also remember Simon before he retired and parents of my friends saying that he was a good man. Mayor Dailey seems to be a stand up guy and has done a good job. And Sen Durbin is one of those quiet leaders that is more interested in results than attention, and probably should be governor (he maybe should have been president if there was no Obama). If Jackson Jr. is evolved in this stuff them light him up, we can't have that. but until the proof of crimes surfaces i think we should give him the benefit of the doubt. His name may make him more prone to the fact that he will have to walk a straighter line than other people. Blago represents a part of chicago, not the best part or the largest part. Its a tough town, with hard working people that demand straight talk and are more concerned about results of ideology, than just happy talk about ideology. I don't see obama being envolved in any of this. I get the feeling he would not run for office if he had to do a lot of that stuff. he doesn't have a lot of patience for looking bad and losing political capital that would hender him getting things passed.

Il may need a different kind of person to run for office. Emauel seems like good people. and Durbin, Daily, Obama (even though his a transplant) seem to be closer to lincoln than many others. But if illinois really wants the best people, give them free air time during the special election so that the people can decide from the best ideas. But also lets not have witch hunts because a governor knew a senator and a congressman knew a state senator. we should only get judgemental on the facts of wrong doing, not on the ghost of voter fraud and mob connections.

Having once lived in Illinois, I have seen a long history of distinguished and less than distinguished politicians. From my viewpoint both Barack Obama and Jesse Jackson, Jr. are public servants of the highest quality. It is not clear if Jesse Jackson, Jr. would have been able to successfully run for the Senate statewide in two years. That concern may be a reason not to select him as Obama's successor, but it would be a shame if he were tarred with the Blagojevich brush.

We are confusing two issues. Legal rights and moral obligations of those whom we elect. The issues surroiunding the Illinois senate seat relate to the latter. For this reason, the murkiness of Representative Jackson's relationships with the Illinois govenor, coupled with the history of Ill politics, should cause Jackson to recluse himself for the current appointment process.

It is amazing the amount of "debate and corruption" pver Sarah Palin's clothing verses the real corruption in Chicago with the Gov and even with Obama's past. Just like it will be Republicans fault that the bail out did not go through for the auto makers. But truth is the Auto makers CEO's would NOT give up a pay increases and bonus's for themselves.

FR, you DO know there's another, more famous "Rush" out there don't you? My first thought in reading your headline was that Rush Limbaugh had spoken up for JJ Jr, and I thought THAT would the kiss of death.

Personally, I'm waiting for some actual FACTS to come out before making up my mind, rather than just going with the default "all Illinois pols are crooks." That's too easy, and doesn't require any brainpower.
