I recently read a book about the life of John Adams, one of the founders and the second president of the United States.

The presidential campaign between Adams and Jefferson was more brutal than anything we see today. What was interesting was that both parties actually owned their own newspapers that regularly endeavored to trash the opponent or aggrandize their own.

I always suspected that little had changed. We're actually a bit more genteel and impersonal these days and the political coverage has been "McDonaldized" but in principle the media hasn't really changed that much. They take sides and support their own agendas, possibly even being sincere in their biases.

Candidates sincerely use whatever element of the media helps them the most.

Still waiting for change.

I agree with the view that Obama is a transformational leader (or at least is on the verge of being so), and THAT'S why TIME & Newsweek are in love with him, as is much of the country. It would have been a bigger news story if they HADN'T picked him, given the historical nature of his being the first person of color to win the presidency (not to mention his ability to raise big money and draw huge crowds).

I have nothing against JFK but the cult of personality surrounding him is disgusting.

Also, Obama gained 52.9% of a 62% turnout. That does not equal 61% of the voting public, it means he received approximately 33% of the total voting population. Which also means the biggest percentage (again) was of people who did not vote 38%. Like me who did not like either choice. At least I don't live in Minnesota where the choice is between a comedian and a joke.

I am starting to sense a whole lot of jealousy among the press corps with Obama's success and some worry that their self appointed importance is being diminished.

People want facts about areas directly concerning their lives. They understand what not being able to talk about it and you will have to wait another week means. To waste time at pressers on questions that won't be answered leaves less time to find out about the plans and visions of the people appointed.

You know, I think I've begun to notice a pattern regarding the media and to quote Mike Baker from Fox, “PEBO”, that would be President Elect Barack Obama….. I’m referring to.

Since it's no longer possible to view any news networks home page or tune into a news station on TV or radio without seeing or hearing the name Obama, one might come to the conclusion the liberal media has a one track collective mind.

From Rod’s plight to the good fight, it’s Obama this and Obama that. Well, he hasn’t even been sworn in yet, and like the holiday music that’s forcefully pumped into my office for at least five weeks prior to the actual event, I’m(to be frank) sick of it!

I’m sick of hearing and seeing about the Obamanation.
He is not the messiah. He is not a demigod. He’s not a saint who will save us all. He is simply the next man in line to be handed the toughest job in the world, and like his predecessors, he’ll do well at some aspects of the job, and fail miserably at others.

I predict he’ll excel at further restricting the few freedom’s we retain, just like his predecessor. I predict he’ll tell us what we want to hear while doing the opposite behind the closed Oval Office door, just like his predecessor. I predict

over again. Had we told OPEC to kiss off in the seventies and weaned our self from foreign oil, we’d be better off as a nation. I know gas is cheap today, but as soon a the economy starts to
boom again, mark my words, gasoline will skyrocket in price. We the people are the root cause of this recession. One cannot live on credit indefinitely. At some point, someone, somewhere, has to pay
the bill. GMC doesn’t produce a truck worth sixty thousand dollars, in fact, there is no such thing as a sixty thousand dollar truck – it’s absurd a new car costs more that the house your parents built or bought.

It’s absurd that high-end stores in the Soho district are selling blue jeans for hundreds of dollars a pair when they are made with the very same
fabric imported from Pakistan at two bucks a yard and is the same fabric as in the eight buck jeans peddled at wallyworld.

I’m sorry that anyone is suffering during this recession, but in truth, this weaning Americans off of “the keep up with the Jones’s” attitude
that seems so prevalent in today’s world, will, in the end, do us all a favor. Since we’ve lacked the discipline to do so ourselves, we have as a nation, as a global community, and as individuals been forced to take a step back and reassess what is and what is not important, and I don’t think it’s surprising to find that fashion garments, a new car every year, designer linens, etc. are not necessary and indeed are a foolish way to live. What is important is enough food, a roof over our head, heat on a cold winter day, timely and quality medical care, family, friends, and loved ones. We’ve just forgotten during our “financial boom” that was bound to collapse on itself. What is surprising is that it took so long to collapse.

We will survive or we will fall, as a nation, and as a global society. It will only go one of two ways – and folks, as much as the media likes to hype him up, Obama will have little or nothing to do with it.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope you realize that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ – it’s not a holiday, it’s not about how
much cash or credit you can burn through, it’s not about anything commercial, nor is it about a fictitious fat man in a sleigh. It’s about love and hope and if you can’t see that, then I pray that God has mercy on you. Go home, spend some quality time with the wife, kids, family, neighbors, friends and loved ones. Quit worrying about how many presents are under the tree, and thank God that He sent His Son to give us the true gift of Christmas – hope…….

The left is calling him a transformational leader and saying he'll be one of the best presidents ever. Why don't we wait a bit before we pass judgment. So far, he's only shown that he is an exceptional campaigner and speechgiver. He has yet to lead and won't until January 20th. So let's all just take a step back for a bit and give him some time as President before we declare him Abraham Lincoln or Herbert Hoover.

The fact that his ascendency is historical, his story compelling, is faithful to his wife and his political record virtually clean is plenty enough to make him a darling?. Indie woman has it right. Barack is the best chance we have to have a real transformation in the country since JFK. Why do you think Caroline wants to get involved? Why have all the heavyweights including HRC, said yes to his request to serve? They want to be on the right side of history, bless their not so little egos!

His message is a resonding one after 8 years of a failed, unconsitutional presidency. Even the saner GOPers like Gingrich and McCain see this as real opportunity and have urged their party to get with the program.
