USA Today does some fun stats about the new Congress. One interesting nugget: It's the oldest Congress on record. "The average age will be 57 in the House and 63 in the Senate, according to the chambers' historical offices. In each case, it's the highest

Congress: New (and older) Congress

I guess the average age of both houses of Congress increased because the people threw out the children of the repugnant one's party. We definitely need more adult like behavior from Congress and now we have it with older Democrats.

I am so glad that our new improved more Democratic Congress is being seated today. I hope that Roland Burris gets seated instead of punked around as we need as many good Democrats as possible in Congress from Day One. Burris isn't the enemy, it's the repugnant ones who are the enemy of our secular democracy.

Congress: New (and older) Congress

>>>The Hill: “A senior Democratic aide said efforts by [Rep. Bobby] Rush to win support for Burris behind the scenes seem to have met with limited success, as the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) does not appear to be rallying behind Burris. One aide said Rush's use of racial rhetoric at Burris's press conference last month hurt the effort more than it helped 'There is a sense that Rush is largely alone,' the aide said. 'He kind of sealed his fate with his incendiary talk.'"

Indeed, the L.A. Times has an intriguing story about how the Burris controversy is an example how Obama's election has changed the nature of racial politics. There's no unity, for instance, among key black political leaders on how to respond to the Burris issue.
==========
Again I ask anyone stupid enough to buy into this rhetoric (including the MSM, who gleefuly stir it up for ratings), WHERE IS THE RACE ISSUE? The reason that there is "no unity" isn't because Blacks can't rally around a cause, it amounts to rallying around the RIGHT cause. Burris was hoping that racial politics would be enough to gain him support among blacks so there'd be a groundswell of protest if his appointment were blocked. Unfortunately, two of the highest profile blacks in this matter, Jesse White and Barack Obama, have already come out against him and the rest of the Black caucus will likely follow suit. The old school racial politics of the past aren't going to work anymore. Just because Burris doesn't mind sullying himself with this appointment doesn't mean that the rest of the Black caucus will follow.

14 Days Until Inauguration Day!

Congress: New (and older) Congress

Lesson #1 - Don't trust the faltering New York Times.

Congress: New (and older) Congress

5-20

Why don't they say that they aren't accepting the appointment of Burris because it was done by a gov out on BAIL??? Just because Burris has the hutspah extraordinaire, doesn't make it ok. He hasn't won a primary - and this is his only chance for the senate - of course he is going to present himself a fait accompli - if not, he wouldn't have mentioned his ethinicity, as if that were an entitlement to a senate or any other congressional seat. there IS no title 19 in the Senate

Congress: New (and older) Congress

When people finally accept that there are no races, just the human race, will be a turning point for humankind.
