The Washington Post: “President-elect Barack Obama stunned the national intelligence community by selecting Clinton White House chief of staff Leon E. The media and the people have gone along with the appointments for the most part, even though the Clinton people just were not that great. But the Panetta appointment is one of the weirdest picks seen in many years in Washington. What exactly is Obama thinking on this pick? Someone in his inner circle needs to explain to Obama that positions like the head of the CIA are important, and that is not a position you want to be playing politics with. This goes back to the 'experience' claim against Obama, ie., that he doesn't have any. Now we see why experience is important, because the Panetta pick will cost American lives.

Transition: How Panetta's playing

I'm so jazzed that Obama tapped local boy Leon Panetta to clean up the CIA. I don't want any more stinking insiders running that decrepit illegal agency the way it's been run into the ground the past 8 years. It's time to put real intelligence back into the intelligence community and Leon Panetta can do that. He's run a great International Instiutute here so he knows his stuff.

Leon Panetta to run the CIA!

Transition: How Panetta's playing

Panetta is a great choice to shake up a CIA that gave Cheney everything he wanted. Feinstein backed Cheney and Bush every step of the way, as well. The learning curve is very different in the intel community. Been there, done that, about 20 years. This is not the kind do job that can be learned on the job. Most compamies hire MBA who can analyze and devise a plan to help their company succeed. The down side to failure is simply lower profits. In the intel community every action is just as important as every decision to take no action, and then there are times when a sudden decision must be made to react by military intervention or some other method. "Committees" are great in a corporation, but in international intel work, decisions must be based upon knowledge and made very, very quickly. A slow response or a staffed response lets things like 9/11 happen. There are a dozen other cabinet posts that Panella is better suited to, just not this one. This selection puts the nation at risk. Obama needs to rethink this one. As he said, this is not a Democratic or Republican issue, this is an American one. God help us all.

Transition: How Panetta's playing

I'm really looking forward to the future CIA leaks by loyal Americans how this communist think tanker is abusing his access to information of political enemies.
