And I'm so glad for her and anyone else who realizes times are changing for the better.
Beverly in Chicago

Unfortunately, this is one of the most racist comments I have seen here. Beverly, the need to identify by race or color reflects the truth inside. It is sad in this day and after the recent election that this continues. How can anyone expect change if we don't start at home. Dems often show their real feelings given time.
=============================================
Kathy:
The truth is what's inside me is hope and inspiration. If mentioning color in a non-inflammatory way to illustrate how the history of our country would/has changed for the better; then maybe you need to look inside yourself. I am not a racist. I only espouse what is best for myself, children and their children and so on; which is what is best for America in order to form a more perfect union.
I really don't see color, gender, disability, or any “isim”. But, when a person like you, my dear White girlfriend, and anyone else, for that matter, tells me what a Black person cannot do; then I immediately see color.
Peace
Good fortune to the Peacemakers; for they shall inherit the earth.

Tomorrow's designated successor

Samuel F. Allot of Talk - Hot Air? Would she be willing to wage war if it was nessisary? I personally don't think so. Obama on the other hand, if something happened on the magnitude of 9-11 he wouldn't hesitate to wage war. Although he is all prim and proper, he did work the Chicago landscape for quite a while, and I think it would bring out a fighting madman. It's too funny how people are so quick to ridicule Bush for his tenure as or Commander in Chief. Did he do everything right, heck no, but he did keep us from having another large scale attack on our soil. He did cause that millions of people now have the right to vote for their governments. We enjoyed that right this past November. He also made it possible for millions of young ladies and women to have some life outside the rule of the Taliban. Wow, I wish I can have that great of an impact on Humanity. I Voted for Obama because I thought he had a greater oportunity to change some of the problems that have plagued our Nation and that he by his support will have the ability to accomplish more. But if some terrorist wack-job were to take out the Capital, I would want someone like Gates on the side-line ready to pick up the pieces and take the war to the enemy. I don't think that will happen because today our Nation is secure enough to have a transition of power without that threat. It is safe enough because someone and their administration made it so, and although there are many other areas that did not meet the same success, this area did. I believe keeping America safe is primary on the Presidents responsibilities, is it not? How bout the other elements, can't the housing scandel be traced back to the House of Representitves and thier lack of oversight. How bout the collapse of Walstreet? Bernie Maddof? What have they done of substance? Some of the writers on here are so partisan and Bitter, but count your blessings that you are free to complain without the threat of death at your dissention or lifetime imprisonment. Be thankful that we have a country were you can vote in a new Commander in Chief. And be thankful that He has the common sense to put someone as his designate that has the capacity to react swiftly if the need arises. Stop being bitter and be thankful.

Tomorrow's designated successor

We all need to pray for the new President and his top officials. With God, color does not matter. Obama is going to be our new President and we all need to be behind him. I did not vote for him but he is our President and as a nation we need to be strong and support him. It is our system and what makes us a great nation. God bless America.

Tomorrow's designated successor

Hey Ladies and Gents,

Some of you make me sick with yourn dumb coments about
Hillary and Nancy.

The fact remains that we(The USofA)have both internal and external enemies that would love to disrupt a 250 year old trandition of a peaceful change of government.

The new President has a massive job ahead. Today is a day for celebration and hope for our collective future as a united nation; whether republican or democrat, black or white.

In parting, I would like to thank Mr. Bush for keeping us safe. International terrorism of 9-11 defined his presidency, unrest in the Middle East compounded the trials and tribulations confronting him, a natual disater, Katrina, stretched the resources of our nation and a global economic collapse, long in the making through unscrupulous business practices since the 1980's, unjustifiably tarnished his efforts. None of these events were of his making by either act or ommision. Farewell Mr. President. May history look kinder on your efforts.

Tomorrow's designated successor

Robert Gates is the only person in the designated line of succession that will be in both cabinets. The designated line of succession adheres to the constitution. Only an ignorant person would even suggest that Gates might drop a drop on the event. Do we have Caucasion colleges? NO. Do we have African American colleges? Yes. Do we have Indian reservations? Yes. Is there a reservation for Caucasions? There are more programs out there for any other nationality than there are for the caucasion male. Has my family been in need? Yes. But because I am a married caucasion woman there is nothing available to me and my family. Bill Cosby, Will Smith and Oprah Winfrey all have more money than I can ever dream of having... I say we all make of it what it is. There are choices and sometimes you make the wrong one, but you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep moving. I am tired of hearing about racism. If you want it to go away then you have to let it go. Maybe get some councelling. We could have had an African American president a decade ago but the choices weren't very good ones. I seriously would have voted for Bill Cosby a decade ago. One smart man! I also would have voted for Arnold Schwarzenegger, another smart man. To be honest I would have voted for either one of them before any of our candidates in this election. More life experience... and both have a bigger clue about the "mess" we have ourselves in right now. I truly do believe that this election was based on race and if Obama was not African American he would not have won. By doing this we have now kept racism alive. Nice job... And regarding this article in this day and age and how bad things are it probably wasn't a bad idea to pick the secretary of defense...

Tomorrow's designated successor

I was born in the 60's, I served the USAF in the 80's, My ancestors from 1600's, served in the Revoultionary war so all Americans could be free to choose. I am so glad to see Obama in the White House, and estatic Bush is out!
