His solid alignment with a great Republican President, Abraham Lincoln has shown his desire to have this wall of party differences broken down. We can work together. From the train ride, to the concert at Lincoln Memorial, to the china used today, to the Lincoln bible, no previous Democratic president has embraced a past Republican President with such a display. Our support will be there as he is Our president, just as Democrats have supported Our president who is departing today. Republicans can and always will stand behind the person who is our president. It takes real adults, not childish name calling, hate and anger to do that. Perhaps, today, many posters here will see this as an opportunity to put the past behind, grow up and leave the name calling to those who are not mature enough to recognize this. Challenge yourself to leave it behind, turn a new leaf and look forward, not behind. This is not a game or a form of entertainment. Good luck, and God Bless you President Obama, Our new President!
Ed Crane, Middlebury, IN

Could not have been said any better. Stop the name calling childish behavior just as Obama said in his speech. Walk the Walk! Stop the anger and hate. We are now
"the deciders" We look to our new president with hope for aid in the healing of our country, wounded by hatred, injustice, corruption, war, poverty, ignorance and disease. I am certain that both Senators Byrd and Kennedy, regardless of condition, felt honored to attend this momentous historic occasion. As an American, I am encouraged to feel once again included in the political process. My voice again, feels heard. I will pick up my broken spirit and move forward with hope for the healing of
my country and the world. Obama is a good man, but he can not do this alone. Let us quell our cynicism, our doubt, let us move forward with respect and work together for the greater good.

Kennedy collapses at Obama luncheon

May both senators recover quickly. We need their wisdom. A great new president, may the lord watch over him.

Kennedy collapses at Obama luncheon

For those of you who would say nasty things about Sen. Both men are giants of the Senate, and of American congressional history. There are few individuals in our nation's history that have contributed so much, yet just missed the Presidency themselves. They are among the greatest along with Senator Bob Dole, and the late Senators Hubert Humphrey, and Mike Mansfield. Thank God for our senior statesman. They are there through all administrations.

Kennedy collapses at Obama luncheon

"What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility -- a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.

This is the price and the promise of citizenship."

- Barack H. Obama, 44th President of the United States, Inauguration Speech, 1/20/09

Regardless of one's political views, it can be argued that truer words have not been spoken in a long time. This isn't a re-kindling of JFK's 'Ask not...' speech, but a clearer indication that it will take the power of every American to work together and unite against the common cause that is what faces our country right now and in the present and to fix the course that has been set forth by any number of larger, macro decisions in Government or Monetary policy, the Market, etc.

This is not a partisan issue and it's not a call to Socialism. It's a call to the American people to put aside petty grievances and work together to rebuild and reinvent ourselves. This is a call for the American people to reach into themselves, understand their own shortcomings, be respectful of those same shortcomings in others and take the initiative to reach out to idealogical foes in order to forge a new beginning. There is nothing simple about that direction, and it will take time, dedication and commitment to that ideal for it to have any hope of succeeding. From what I'm seeing in many cases in this blog, that initiative may take far longer than any sitting President will have to see it through.

As I read through many of the previous blog posts, I shudder in sorrow that many people simply don't get it. They want to cling to positions of intolerance, hate, ignorance and blatent stupidity in order to foster some security that their views have been maligned, have been overlooked, or that they haven't received or wont receive their entitlement. Apparently, those same people don't really understand the 'price' of Citizenship as defined in our new President's speech and can't see beyond themselves in order to help bring that Citizenship to reality.

I am equally horrified at the actions that took place during the Inauguration - the booing, name calling, etc. of a sitting US President and respected other Government officials. While certainly not royalty, these people deserve our respect, as they work jobs that few of us have, and have responsibilities, in many cases, that few of us could possibly appreciate - let alone undertake. The petulance and ignorance of many of my fellow Americans is astounding and as much as I was proud to be an American today (as I am at every Inauguration, not just 'historic' ones), I am equally appalled that many of them would, willingly and with intent, denigrate the nature of the highest office of the land. Politics aside, no one deserves that lack of respect, regardless of whether they are a sitting President, a barista at Starbucks, or a volunteer at a soup kitchen. This is part of the 'responsibility' of being an American and an American citizen.

Again, regarding the Kennedy and Byrd issues, many Americans clearly fail to have common decency and respect. It is irrelevant about the Senators' pasts, and it irrelevant about their ages. These individuals are elected representatives of the people - and serve the people. Denigrating the Senators not only disrespects them, but it disrespects the people who voted for them and who put those Senators in office. Who are we to judge our fellow Americans' decisions? What right or entitlement do we have to disregard their views? Yet, the ability to cast one's opinion freely and without remorse is now that sense of entitlement, when those exact same people would expect an outpouring of sentiment if they, themselves, took ill - especially in a public forum.

Responsibility. Recognition. Knowledge. Character. These are terms that have been bandied about for years under the weight of political and ideological dogma. I am hopeful that Americans will realize that we and no one else, have the responsibility to fix our own messes, and to educate ourselves with all of the tools at our disposals so that we can work and work hard to rebuild our Nation in our own eyes and the eyes of the world. Nothing will come easy, and the sooner we accept that and get down to the task at hand, the sooner we will reap the rewards of that labor.

The person at the top of the heap is the least important - it's the ones underneath that are supporting them.

Kennedy collapses at Obama luncheon

Just like a Kennedy...can't let another have the spotlight. I just read your comment, yuo need to re-evalaute yuor opipion on FOX news team. You must be the one who watches the NBCnews Networks. They have nothing but done a bad far rigth winged reproting all during the whole election year that they did their reporting wihtout reserch. Fox news always does theor reporting with research and yuo cannot face the facts that Foxnews was the number one news team all campaign season long. And you being from the state of our 44th President yuo should be ashamed of your self. Far as me and my wife we will praying for our President Obama to be guided by his hand to help guide our nation through our difficult times which includes our weak economy, our energy problems and the other probelms like having Robert Gates to stay on and follow the present course that Bush layed out so we can be out of Iraq in 2011. Unfortunatly That was just about the only thing Bush did right about the war, was has finally coming up with the right exit plan to leave Iraq by 2011. And by then the war in Afghanistan will be over as well as we leave. And lets us not forget to pray for Sen Ted Kennedy and Sen Byrd. Sen Kennedy is human and should be judged by what happened in his persoanl life years ago. That is not being good humans. He has done a lot more good for the country that bad things. So let's get behind Our new presidient to help him get our country going strong again.

Kennedy collapses at Obama luncheon

Am I the only person on the face of the earth that remembers that Ted Kennedy killed a lovely young woman many years ago?
