It was McCain's inability to "multi-task" that made him seem like a weaker candidate than Obama (besides his poor VP choice). Obama CANNOT put everything else on the back-burner while he focuses on the "economy". Too many things have contributed to our current recession--the housing crisis, job losses,energy costs, the black hole of health care expenditures...what would you have Obama do? Sit on his hands and watch all of these problems grow worse? Even as they have negative effects on the state of the economy?

Even one of my staunchly conservative friends admitted that if McCain had won, he would be doing nothing right now but trying to preserve the status quo. He certainly wouldn't be working as hard as Obama to tackle the difficult problems we face. Bush just "let things go" while he pursued a needless, tragic, and expensive war in Iraq. I can only imagine how much worse the economy would be tanking under a Bush-like McCain administration!!!

You're missing the point. Obama is spraying his ideas out like water from a firemans hose. He's like a college professor slapping things up on the blackboard hoping something sinks in with his administration, the markets, and the people. It's too much information though for anyone to understand what they are supposed to DO! Obama's administration is freezing up because Obama is going one direction one day, and off on another the next. He is not focused. Everything he does is pie in the sky thinking and are all just half baked ideas. When it comes to implementing his agenda, his administration has not clue. There are no details to any plans. Obama's ideas all sound good at the 50000 foot level, but the devil is in the details. And as of yet, Obama has none because he's too busy with too many ideas.

This is a typical patern for asian nations with a new US Administration. China wants to see how this administration will deal with it if they "probe" us in a millitary way. Funny though, because HRC was just there on her first trip as Sec. of State.

N.Korea threatens to wipe out South Korea if we do a joint millitary exercise (that is done yearly, and has been since the Korean war ended pretty much.), once again, testing this administration....probing it.

Do you think President Obama should simply accept these Chinese actions as China's justified and natural response to the last 8 years? After all, we would appear to deserve it.

Why weren't actions like this by China occurring throughout the Bush administration? Why would China provoke Barack Obama, who consistently praised China during his campaign, particularly their infrastructure and the Olympics?

Yes, it's a test. As surely as the incident during the Bush adminstration, as surely as Kim Jong-Il's regular and routine extortion attempts. It's what they do.

When G.W. Bush was first inaugurated, the Chinese captured one of our military planes and held it and the crew for days-they were testing the mettle of the new president. Plane and crew were returned safely and the Chinese government didn't undertake any more 'tests', so I suppose they learned that this president dealt firmly with aggression.

The Chinese should be observed as well closely. This is becoming unacceptable behavior. I would hope that Robert Gates tells his counter part in China that he has a childish navy that keep its pants up. Then Gates would show the pictures of the rears or the Chinese crew. What would be even better if there was a sign that the crew was willing to perform sexual acts for money (or performing sexual acts on the deck); that could prove to be even more of an embarressment for the Chinese.

My point is that we are in a much better situation than if the other guy had won the recent election. McCain, like most of the Republicans, doesn't have new ideas...it's ironic because he had those ads calling Obama "Dr. NO" during the campaign.

You want some quick fix to the mess that Bush left behind, but it doesn't work that way. Obama's first few weeks were spent working on a stimulus bill to get the economy going as quickly as possible. It will still take time for the stimulus to take effect. I just disagree with your fundamental stance that Obama shouldn't be getting the brightest and best minds together to figure out real solutions to the challenges we face.

I know he's extremely intelligent, but do you really expect him to come up with all of the solutions himself? Thank goodness Obama realizes that others have valuable contributions to make.

Bush did not show resolve during the bomber crisis, he capitulated. Recall, a chinese fighter ran into out surveillance plane, a bomber-sized craft. Yet we accepted and repeated the chinese claim that our plane rammed theirs on purpose. Is that resolve? Then we stood by and did nothing while they held our crew for 11 days. Eleven, not "a couple." Is that resolve. That crew was probably pumped for information, the plane torn apart and reverse engineered, and we accept the blame? Funny what you consider "firm" dealing. And as for the rest of you: my gawd, you really are blaming this nation's mess on Obama, already?

How much collective military wisdom did it take to decide to go to Iraq? Military experience is not the only valid experience.
