It is interesting that people who are fit and fine can carp at such a bill, yet someone who has needed this kind of research or knows someone near and dear who could benefit from it are for it.

While I don't like the idea of killing embrios, I realize that the killing of one embrio could eventually lead to the saving of thousands of people from horrible diseases, or physical maladies or even death. Were it not so overwhelming that this can lead to great things I wouldn't be for it but I am.

Allot of this debate is dependent upon when you define as the start of human life. Does human life start at conception (two unique human cells) or at birth? If you definition is at birth then there are no moral issues here. However, if you believe that human life starts at concpetion, then what we have here is the usage of humans as a means, rather than as an ends. This is the placeage of a value on one human over another.

If you look at real science, virtually every climate expert in the world agrees that man made polution is creating global climate change. If you had ever read any of what was written (other than the oil company supported work), you would have read that experts predicted wild fluctuations in our climate where there would be more severe cold and heat, and more severe storms.

One of the most interesting lines of rhetoric that comes from the republican party is that spending money on creating jobs and stimulating the economy is wrong because it puts the burden on future generations. But continuing to spew carbon into the atmosphere with no attempt at reduction is fine because it is only a myth that carbon emmissions are causing global climate change.

So the lesson is don't worry about ruining the earth, but please don't leave any debt to future generations (other than the massive debt created fighting a war against terror in a country that had nothing to do with the attacks against the US).

You fail logic class today. Under the Bush policy, embyros and their stem cells were scheduled for destruction as decided by their owners or guardians (e.g., a court). Under the Obama policy, the stem cells will now be harvested before the embryos are destroyed.

This, in no way, approximates the human reproduction plan in Huxley's "Brave New World." Go read it again.

President Obama's campaign has been about ensuring the progress and development of the human condition, and our ability as a nation and global society to continue to be prosperous. We hear about spending so much, but we live in the richest nation with one of the biggest income variants. There are simply the have and have nots. Our nation has begun to plunge long before Obama, Bush, and Clinton. Its about getting our values strait. Its about equality and respecting the human condition. Somehow along the way we have lost that. Our President seeks to look at the bigger picture. Do we have the time to invest in medical science? Must we wait and continue to regress in our ability to care for those needing medical treatment.....isnt this a nation that was marked by progression? With change comes deviance. it is clear that many of Obama's views will be viewed as such. However, it is important for us to understand that the resistance to progress that has marked our nation on many ISSUES will not deter the changes and investments that are needed for our nation to heal, create more fair policies and laws, and ultimately change some of the underlying views that have cause us to be such a separatist nation. Stem cell research is just the beginning. The US and its citizens need to learn how to empathize. We need to stop simply worrying about ourselves and invest in what is right. this nation is marked by inclusion of many, so why to we seek to exclude a need in a population that it perceived to be minority when the research will not only help the few, but eventually many......?????
