happy holiaday everyone,
first off with all this flak comeing from the right and the left i am begining to feel like a man without a party. i like the middle thats where the elections are won. thats how the dems won. the gop vacated the middle thats how they lost. with all the heat the far left is heaping on the prez i have to ask myself are the dems still covering the middle? some broadcasters seem intent on going to far left and becoming just as ineffective as their far right counterparts (keith, reachel are you listening). you can use what ever arguement you like go far left but when you do you vacate the middle and if you dont have the middle covered the gop will. just a thought.

Being a self admitted lefty – I have to agree with you! Although I’m about as far left as you can lean, I too realize that you have to govern from the middle. I know that there will be certain things the President will do that I don’t agree with (hell there already has been!). And I’m also enough of a pragmatist to understand that there never has been and never will be a President of this country that is going to deliver 100% of what I WANT!

See that’s the difference between the Dem’s & Repug’s… liberalism is not a DIRTY Word! If you look up the true meaning you will see it represents: Tolerance – Broadmindedness – Free Thinking… well I think you get the picture….

No third rate third world terrorist group like al Qaeda could ever behead everyone or feed them through wood chippers. An excellent answer about the 50-60 comment posting limit as it sure seems that you and Domenico are the ones posting our comments and you don't have all the time in the world to do just that as you need to be writing up new articles for us to comment upon. Sometimes some of my comments don't get posted and I just figure I went over the top, though I do see other rants that make me wonder how they made it through. I so laugh when you post a comment from someone complaining you don't post their comments, like one I saw this morning. I salute you and Domenico for being good sports who post comments from all angles and for trying to be fair and balanced, so unlike fox and freaks.

I think this whole "The GOP is limited to the South" theory is way overblown. Let's keep in persective what the keys (which you guys in the media pounded on the past few years) which brought Dems into power in 2006: GOP scandals, and unpopular Iraq war, and an unpopular Pres Bush and his handling of Katrina. The media made sure those things stayed in the forefront of eveyone's daily news intake. While those are major issues, if you take them away, does that mean that the GOP "problem" is purely idealogical???? I think not. Remember, it was Rahm Emmanuels Democratic strategy to win seats in 2006 by running conservative, pro-life candidates in a year that the GOP brand was tarnished. So candidates with similar values for the Dems defeated their GOP opponents. That hardly describes an entire nation rejecting conservative ideas. And now today, many of those same conservative Dems are a thorn in Obama's side on many issues. And now in the past year or so, it's the Dems who have the bulk of the ethical issues--Blagoyevich, Edwards, Spitzer, Murtha, Rangel, Pelosi....etc I know the media, due to their bias, won't punish them to the extent they punished the GOP, but Americans also aren't stupid. And Once America becomes un-drunk with the hipness and rhetroic of this new president and begin linking his bad policies to his persona,...maybe the tide will begin to change?

You are certainly right about popularity and politicians-why I think this particular Obama/Cheney debate is intriguing is that Obama is a popular guy with an unpopular plan, and Cheney is the unpopular one but with the plan more Americans, and the Congress, are on board with. Neither will trump the other.

Did you happen to catch the speech your Governor Daniels made a few weeks ago to the grads of Butler? If not, try to look for it because I suspect you would appreciate it.

The redistricting of voters (this is another crooked throw back from GWB andinistration's Justice Department) is the only reason that Sessions and Shelby are still holding seats.

Congressman Davis is well liked and respected in this State by both races and yes, both races get along just fine. Alabama is changing for the better and I intend on helping Davis campaign.

The old South politics are playing out, MJ's UA in Tuscaloosa is where the GOP style politics are recruited, they're days are numbered, because the youngsters and parents are not having part in their Poisonous politics. Whenever the Cullman Time (used to be KKK strong hold area) rat on racist(Richard Shelby's remark about President Obama's birthplace, Chris Matthews discussed it on Hardball) remarks to the national media...yes times they are a changing.

As a Moderate Republican, I am baffled at the GOP "strategy" of late. They cling to the past conservative principles-claiming they just need to repackage them-with no willingness to welcome moderate voices (even bashing someone like Colin Powell as a traitor! How is that helpful??) Instead, they embrace the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney, just pushing people like me farther away. I'm not sure they can climb out of the hole you reference in the article here. I actually predict they may start losing some of that Southern stronghold, too, before they open their eyes finally. Many are viewing the Republicans as the party of/for the rich made up of mainly white men with a rallying cry to defend torture and scare the public into voting for them. Where are the fresh ideas? Where is the willingness to welcome minorities, pro-choice or pro-gay marriage Americans? I have not lost all faith. I still hope that a true Republican leader, like Powell or Huntsman, can emerge and lead the party in a better, more hopeful direction. Until then, I find myself supporting President Obama more and more and feeling reassured by his leadership during this challenging time.

P.S. Before the name calling starts (RINO, Democrat in disguise, etc.) I voted straight Republican from 1988-2007, including voting for Bush twice. At this time, I simply find Pres. Obama to be the voice and vision we need right now.

I think (hope) we're safe until around 2016 because of Obama.
But, six months in politics is a lifetime

The south for a long time has been about 20 years behind the north, so by 2028 the GOP will be about 30% of likely voters.

I also believe there will be a third party coming into power with enough strength to provide real choices for Americans.

I believe we need three or four parties for real democracy and choice.

I would also like the election process to be changed so the voters have a better quality of candidate from which to choose.
1) No voter should be required to register with a party choice and primaries should be open (in some states you only get to vote for the candidate for the party you are registered with) so you can vote for any candidate regardless of party.
2) Primaries should determine 2 or 3 candidates to be on the General Election ballot not by party but by the number of votes received regardless of party.
3) The Attorney General should be an elected position.
4) I could make a case for the VP to be separated from the president thus, as it used to be, from a different party and/or different views than the president.

It's all about giving us our full freedom of choice. We are currently controlled by the 2 parties and they have made laws to keep it that way …. Taking away our power.

Seriously, the reason the South is repuplican because the South has always cherished indivudual liberty, personal freedom, and low taxation. It's funny that so many are talking poor of the South and lately I'm seeing transplant after transplant from states like NY, CA, and Michigan moving to Texas to get away from liberal governments that are taxing them to death. Seems to me that the most conservative states are succeeding the most. No problems in Texas or Florida, while liberal northern states are going in then tank.
