The majority of us know that she will make fair and just decisions. It's not about her rulings that bother the far right; it's her gener and race. They just want to mask their sickness behind other fears that are without basis.

Anyone that doesn't look like them is the problem and it is being revealed on a daily basis, I truly want them to continue the race card attacks, I want them be exposed, they need to be exposed for what they truly are and what they truly represent.

Our Nation is trying to pull itself together and they are attempting to divide, but it's too late for that. We are United and we will crush their bigority.

Sotomayor -- conservative on race?

Okay this is my THIRD attempt to post this so maybe it will be allowed this time...

I'll say one thing about using the world 'racist' when you don't understand the meaning attatched to the word. Racist to minorities is an increadible insult. Racism is associated with Jim Crow, lynchings, police brutality, unfair incarceration, segregation, cross burning, KKK, skinheads, concentration camps, murdered or deported relatives, workplace stigmas and random beatings. To use that word is a loaded gun...that frankly I don't think many people like Newt and Rush would possibly understand. I'll tell this story...

My grandfather as a young man served in the Navy during WWII. As a teenager he went on a date to the movies. He was spotted by a group of white boys(in his words) while comming outside the theater. They began to taunt him and wouldn't let him by. Eventually one pulled a knife on him and lunged. My grandpa pressed up against a brick wall and dodged the attacks...bloodying the attacker's hand. A policeman arrived to break up the 'fight' and ended up beating my grandpa and putting him into jail. A couple days later he was released and sent home. Not long after that very same policeman showed up near my grandpa's home to 'check up on him' and he was so enraged he began to reach for a rifle in the house. He was stopped by his mother who told him to let it go...and the policeman came and left without incident. He has told me many more similar incidents that happened to him or people he knew. This is 'old racism' as Newt would put it. I doubt Rush, Newt, or half of the people who are using that word against Sotomayor..a minority herself..knows what it really is. It's not a thought process or opinion..it's active hostility. To charge a judge of Sotomayor's credentials and extensive record of racism is absolutely abhorrent and I'm suprised the media hasn't been more shocked by it.

Minorities in this country often reflect upon how their race and experience shape and mold their opinions and place in this world. It is normal for 'us' to speak amoungst ourselves or to others in such a manner whether in reflection, intellectual dialouge, or a speech. And frankly for a white man to point at such and call it reverse racsim is an increadible insult. It removes the context and denies the racial heritage and culture from which that person comes from. If this is how bomb throwing conservatives wish to 'attack' or criticize 'liberal' minorities seeking higher office or positions than the consequences will be steep.

As a minority myself I am sick and tired of hearing the world 'affirmative action hire' when the person nominated/promoted clearly have the credentials to perform the job. When people like J.Merle use that word they are essentially saying some random 'white' person out there is better...not a black, not an asian...but a white person. Sometimes gaining a position is a matter of luck, circumstance, and qualifications and I would like to think so-called adults would learn to accept that rather than blaming race or gender.

Sotomayor -- conservative on race?

Sometimes President Obama scares me because he reads the political climate so well. This pick was brilliant even though Sotomeyor may well turn out to be Obama's Byron "Wizzer" White, who was far more conservative than President JFK could have imagined. She will win confirmation easily and set the stage for future picks.

We will have to wait for Obama's second term to see any truly liberal choices. I'm hoping for another William O. Douglas to counter Judge Scalia. The court would be what the founding fathers intended if it contained three liberal, three moderate and three conservative judges. Then, we would have true political diversity.

Have a nice weekend, folks...

Sotomayor -- conservative on race?

If you don't like the words "affirmative action hire", then maybe you should be against affirmative action. Back in the late 60's I was traveling home from college by train. Sitting in the train station a young white man sat next to me and really started to harass me. An older black man was sitting on my other side and observed what was going on. He started to talk to me earnestly trying to keep me in a conversation (at the time I didn't know why). The young guy got so disgusted with me for talking to a black male that he went off in a huff (thank God). The older gentleman just winked at me when the guy left and didn't speak to me anymore.

After many years when I think about it I realized how wonderful the older man was for helping me. You see I lived in an all white town and never thought of racism or anything like that. So it did not occur to me that talking to him was a supposed stigma.

But there are also bad stories too. My older brother was reading a book late at night while his wife was taking a shower and his three sons were in bed asleep. Someone knocks at the door and there were three black men with a gun asking for his wallet. He was pulling out his wallet when they shot him - then they ran away.

The point is there is evil and good in all races. You have to find the good ones out there and not think about gender, race, or nationality. I have made many friends in my lifetime and happily they are a huge mix of what makes up America.

I have a great weekend.

Sotomayor -- conservative on race?

VERY INTERESTING. Funny, but when racism ISN'T taught, it isn't LEARNED.

To deny that the ugliness of racism hasn't existed in this country is to belittle, not only those who've had it directed at them, but also to belittle how far this country has come from the slave trade that was part of our beginnings.

I'm proud of where we are now. Just look...we elected an intelligent, well-spoken, constitutional attorney who possesses a social conscience and decency only dreamed about by the previous president and vice president.
