African Americans vote in larger numbers in southern states than the north. In fact, it seems that there was more voter intimidation caused by the black panther group in the last election than any other group. They were actually standing in front of voting locations with weapons. We need to put the 60's behind us. We have an African American president and an extremely active african american voting population. We will never take race relations to the next level as long as the old timer civil rights activist continue to act like we're still in the 60's and amazing progress has been made. New lawsuits will undoubtedly be filed by local governments, and the issue will soon be back before the court. That explains the response today from the civil rights community -- relief that the U.S. Supreme Court could not bring itself to strike down the Voting Rights Act, but concern that the next big challenge to the law, whenever it comes, may not produce the same result.

If it's struck down then They may as well prepare themselves for the next remake of Iran's disinfranchised. You fear what you don't understand and destroy that which is right.

Only the strong survived the journey on the slave ships. The ones that were stolen from their villages where they were worriors, princes, kings, queens. You have to understand the culture before you judge it. It is a proud race and Thomas is not what represents it.

Act remains constitutional, for now

Perez Hilton says he was "punched" by Black Eyes Peas' manager. That's a good thing. Can you say Carrie Prejean?

And if Ryan O'Neal is gonna marry Farrah, he'd better hurry.

Other than that, Clarence Thomas rules. What a parade of lies Anita Hill told. Man, they will stoop at nothing.

The system is broken right now. Obama and his tax cheats saw to that. We can get it back working properly in a few years. Obama will have to reside outside the US because he's gonna keep hearing it for all the mayhem he's caused.

Act remains constitutional, for now

Which brings me to Jeff D in Westmont: the ivory tower is a term used to describe the rarified world of intellectuals who discuss at great legnth, and purport to 'solve', the world's pressing issues-with absolutely no regard for the practical consequences of their pie in the sky solutions.

by no stretch of anyone's imagination is it a racist term-and I resent your ignorant implication that it might be so. Next time, look it up. Better yet-read a book.

no joe, no bo, nj (Sent Monday, June 22, 2009 1:54 PM)

I don't know where you got your definition but my dictionary defines it like this. "An impractical lack of concern with urgent problems".

Witch to me means you set in your Ivory Tower and could care less about the people you think are beneath you. Oh, I guess they wouldn't have a job if they admitted that. Makes sense. - DG, Houston
----------------------
DG, not that I agree with the panthers being stationed at polling places, let alone with weapons, but with that said, I would like you to better quantify your statement that "...voter intimidation..." took place. For instance in the video I saw there were White voters coming out of the station and they had no interaction with the Panthers.
Do you have comparative numbers between the 2004 and 2008 polling results from that location to better quantify and justify your implication that the panters were not there to ensure the Black vote was counted, but rather ensure the White vote be surpressed?

Thanks in advance...though I doubt for the record I'll get anything.

Act remains constitutional, for now

We will never take race relations to the next level as long as the old timer civil rights activist continue to act like we're still in the 60's and amazing progress has been made. He uses it for toilet paper. paper airplanes and fundraising confetti.

Monkberry Moon (Sent Monday, June 22, 2009 1:48 PM)
======================
Just how does he do that? Compared to the lies, illegal war, wire tapping of private US citizens and a bunch of other stuff from the previous Administration I would say Obama is clean all the way regarding the Constitution. But than the hate mongers will criticize him no matter what he does. They are so fun to see making their outrageous and untrue statements. It makes the world know just how ignorant, misinformed and, in some cases, down right stupid they are.
