Good Morning…

Prayers go out to the families of victims that perished in the train collision on yesterday evening just outside of Washington, Dc. Also with the young student Neda’s family in Iran that lost her life by a mad mans bullet and lastly with the family of Ed McMahon who was the last to symbolize my era in late night television viewing with the Johnny Carson Show.

Politics—where is Gov. Sanford? Why does the Gov. of South Carolina keep disappearing on occasion without knowledge of his where a bout’s. I mean what’s up with that? His wife can’t locate him and he doesn’t show up on fathers’ day? That is strange indeed. He is running for a national office and disappears at the drop of a hat without warning? Not very responsible I would think.

Stimulus package—the stimulus package hasn’t had time to get out yet. The republicans are salivating in hopes that the American public grows inpatient. They are banking on the fact that Americans are not very good at waiting for anything. Actually a larger number have short memories. The President explained that the stimulus money would not reach Americans for months. It took enough time for both houses to get the package approved.

The polling of Americans by the media is irresponsible especially when the facts aren’t placed beside the numbers. We aren’t satisfied unless we are whining and miserable. I imagine the majority of those that are growing impatient are the people that voted for George Bush in both elections. Hell they deserve to wait even when things do improve.

Does anyone remember the 2000 election when came on national television and said that Dick Cheney was fine…he hadn’t suffered a heart attack? He looked straight into the camera and told a bald faced lie.

I knew he lied when he did it. But it amazed me. I couldn’t for the life of me understands who voted for him and why. He “looked” like a liar that had to assure the public that a then more experienced “statesman”, one Dick Cheney was not gravely ill to the point that he would be left running this country alone.

Come on Media…start reporting the actual facts. Unemployment will reach 10%. The stimulus package will not take effect until months from now and GM will emerge stronger. We already know this so the spin can stop.

Diane Feinstein (sp) get your s*** together or else you all won’t be in office four more years. Cut the s***, America wants HCR let your special interest groups go, do your jobs and pass Health Care Reform. I don’t trust you anyway….

Impatient Americans—Irresponsible Graham and McCain

When will the recession end? When will the job market improve? What will happen to GM? What will happen in Iran? We have come to expect quick, easy answers and when the answers are not quick and easy, it is an opportunity for the (not-so-loyal) conservatives to be irresponsible and complain.

Yesterday one person did not think the notion of “stupid pills” was so funny. Maybe irresponsible fits better. Sticking to the facts, Obama is getting daily and sometimes hourly briefings on what is happening in Iran. Graham and McCain get CNN. George Will, Richard Lugar, and Peggy Noonan were spot on target.

So, what will happen in Iran? I’m not sure, but the people I am listening to are Richard Engel and Iranian nationals. What is happening behind the scenes may be where the real action is. I haven’t heard the name “Rafsanjani” for years, and when I did, it was time to pay attention. The real action may be between Khamenei and Rafsanjani. This is undercover stuff that the CIA, or operatives from other countries are watching. And this is what Obama knows and the rest of us wonder about.

I expect strikes and peaceful demonstrations to last for months, until the Ayatollahs come to a compromise. Khamenei is being quite cautious. He returned Rafsanjani’s eldest daughter and relatives. Police are using tear gas and night sticks instead of firing real bullets into the crowd. They do not want any more martyrs. Moussavi wants disruption without loss of life. The resolution will likely be a compromise. The question is, “Will the reformers accept the compromise?” Who knows?

Leftovers & Take Out…

Is it relevant to know what this new healthcare system will or will not offer? The phrase being kicked around is reasonable high-quality haelthcare which can mean anything. I want some specifics. For a reasonable premium (or more likely tax) what are my benefits? Will I be able to get elective surgery when I want it? Will it cost me more in premiums (taxes) for this service? Otherwise, to reduce costs I would tell you to go and take two aspirin as that would be more COST EFFECTIVE than a $4000 operation.

Thanks Alan & I agree about needing answers regarding what the new healthcare system and what it will or will not offer. I believe the phrase that I’ve been kicking around is ‘Affordable Quality Healthcare for all American Citizens’ and I know you’re intelligent enough to comprehend the translation! Other’s in your party are not so fortunate – (son)!
I also agree that the President needs to start taking it directly to the people and answer some of these questions including how we’re going to pay for it – EVEN – if it means having to admit that Yes taxes will go up! Put the facts out there and then we can debate them… all this conjecture is not getting us anywhere!
But the BIGGER problem I have with the right is the rhetoric & scare tactics (sorry but after all that’s all they have these days) like the insurance police knocking on your door… ala Michael Steele… (that one was a CLASSIC) or this rationing on healthcare BS! Throwing all this around accomplishes nothing but preying on low information voters (ooops I mean the ‘base’).
And about getting elective surgery when you want it… I don’t know of many people other than the plastic surgery junkies that elect to under go the knife just for the hell of it!

Richard Wolffe’s book Renegade is excellent. Some of the stories are priceless. I expect it to be on the NYT best seller list…if it isn’t already.

I haven’t watched David Gregory for months now…regardless of who he has on. I agree with Feisty on most things, and would be OK with Lawrence O…but Chuck is still the next Tim.

And I too use to think Chuck was the next Tim – even said so to my husband last summer after Tim’s untimely passing! The "news" conference today is Obama hail mary pass to try and salavage health care and cap&trade. Both bills are DOA in Congress. "News" conference is in quotes because the presser is nothing but another staged event by Obama. The questions went out from the White House to the appropriate newsies yesterday, and they will be called on in the prescribed order determined by the White House. No surprises will be tolerated, so Fox won't be called on. Obama will look fine, he's rehearsed it several times to be sure and he'll read the teleprompter as well as he always has. But it won't matter, health care and cap&trade are nearly dead, and this won't help any.

I heard you both on the Morning Joe-ke program this morning lamenting the fact that President Obama has not told us all just how much healthcare is going to cost.

Why are you expecting a cost for something that hasn’t even been written yet? Is that realistic?

Weren’t you two a part of the chorus of media pundits telling us all that President Obama shouldn’t even try to reform healthcare at all, because all he should focus on “the economy” and “the banks? (Like healthcare isn’t a major part of the economy?)

Now you pivot from that to the right wing talking point of “How are we going to pay for it?”

I’ll tell you how we are going to pay for it – we are going to subsidies for corporations, we are going to cut subsidies to other countries, and we are going to use OUR TAX MONEY that we are ALREADY PAYING to take care of OUR NEEDS before we ride out on our white horses to save the world.

P.S. Chuck, I was really disappointed that you and the rest of the “panel” on Morning Joe-ke sat by while Joe Scarborough called President Obama “a liar” for saying that healthcare reform will save money in the long run.

When Bush awarded "no-bid" contracts for military contractors - we all screamed (including me).

And yet, when BoBo gives TRILLIONS in "no-bid" grants, you lefties say - NOTHING!!!

For example: BoBo gave nearly 1/2 million dollars to a "friend" on a "no-bid" grant to study "why men dont like wearing condoms".

Why cant all of us bid on this contract???
I bet even you lefties that love BoBo could find that answer for less money.

I reject and denounce the analysis that the Obama Administration had a "tough week" and are "on the defensive".

What evidence can you provide to support that?

Other than the attempt by the media to spin a CBO scoring of an unfinished bill as the final cost for healthcare reform and the treasonous Republican Party implying that the President is not being "tough enough" with Iran, I would think that: -

- mulitiple polls showing 70+ percent of Americans WANT the government to sponsor a public health insurance option

- the Republican Party's approval ratings being at an all time low

- the populations of several Islamic countries, including Iran, taking steps towards democracy WITHOUT the US playing the role of "puppet master"

are all GREAT developments for the Obama Administration . . . unless you are in the media and you need conflict.

P.S. If a mid-60s approval rating is "coming back down to earth", that works for me.

Oh, don't tell us that Obama is using those cost cutting numbers from the drug companies to plug into his "savings" column for his health care plan? If there was ever some funny money out there, that is it. Also, if the drug companies are charging $80 billion less over 10 years, where do you think they are going to make the cuts? Because unlike the government, who can print money, they actually have to make money to stay in business. My guess is the drug companies will cut R&D, you know the thing that comes up with new and better drugs to help all of us.

President Obama has shown such skill at handling tough situations, and a bunch of whiny repugnant ones are the least of his worries. I am glad that Obama is calling a timeout and playing the news conference bully pulpit card this morning. Always so refreshing to hear our great superhero speak, especially after hearing the party of superzeroes whine baby whine. After a tough week he's going to push the reset button and take charge of the narrative.

I'm glad that President Obama is saying Yes We Can to the public option for health care reform. We can't let the private medical industry ripoff conartists dictate to us what kind of reform we get, we've had enough of their lies. It's also exciting that climate change is making it's way quickly through Congress now. I sure hope we get to see the evil elephants whine baby whine when climate change passes. Time for the cheapskates to ante up to pay for this much needed climate change bill.

Have the repugnant ones found their missing wayward governor? What a total jerk that he disappeared over Father's Day weekend without telling his wife, that's not the kind of family values one brags about. I'm tired of the hearing American say how crappy the "nationalized" healthcare system is in Canada. I live in Canada and from a citizen who uses the system it is NOT crappy! I do NOT have to wait to see my doctor or for procedures. All the big and expensive costs are paid for by the government and I have supplemental healthcare from the job to fill in the gaps that I pay pennies for ($200 a year) and it covers, disability pay, long-term care expenses, critical illness lump sums, 100% prescription medication and private room in hospitals along with a host of other services like physiotherapy, massages, etc. Talk to someone who lives in Canada before trashing the system!

Just curious...does anyone look at the details underlying the polls you cite? Every liberal is continually mentioning the NYT poll that says 72% want a public option. According to the details, this poll sampled twice as many Obama supporters as McCain supporters. Did Obama win the election 53 - 47 or was it 67-33? How do you explain that? And also, how do you explain how other polls show far less support for a public option?

Nixon's Cold War diplomacy, the U.S. cease-fire with Hanoi and the administration's reaction to the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion are included in the release.

The tapes, to be put online, are from January and February 1973. That period covers the conviction of burglars whose break-in at Democratic headquarters precipitated the cover-up that eventually unraveled Nixon's presidency.

I am so fascinated with this man and I don't know why. But I'm anxious to see what is learned from the new documents. I never hated him, even during the Watergate years. I felt sorry for him. Perhaps we will learn something new about the break-in and whose brain child this was. My money is on G. Gordon Liddy. That guy was/is nuts.

Given the constant right wing attacks on absolutely everything he has done or said, and given that we are in the worst recession in 70 years, I think it is remarkable that President Obama's approval rating is still in the 60s!

As far as the stimulus, the right has been very effective in whining about how it is wasting money and not creating jobs. Yet just this last weekend, I drove up Cicero in Chicago and there was one of those nifty signs showing that the resurfacing of Cicero is being funded by the stimulus plan. To anyone that has driven around Chicago, you know that our roads are in great need of improvement so the stimulus plan is just the kind of thing we needed! It IS creating jobs and it is improving our infrastructure.

Imagine how much worse unemployment would be if we hadn't passed a stimulus plan? From where I sit, it is creating jobs, improving infrastructure, funding important programs, and improving people's perception of the state of our economy.

And the fact that 52% of people think it is helping is pretty remarkable, given that the right has been waging an all out war against it for over four months!

I am not black, so I can’t speak to why blacks don’t like him. I don’t like him because he is worse than a puppet on a string. My main objection to him is that when in a position of authority, he abused that authority. He was degrading to subordinate women who had the misfortune of needing their jobs so badly they couldn’t report his offenses. And when he was called upon to tell the truth about his offenses under oath, he refused to do so. And even further than that, he allowed Anita Hill to be vilified. I see an opportunity to remind people that Clarence Thomas and John McCain made their infamous ‘indiscretions’ (inappropriate office humor and Keating Five scandals) while they were in their 50’s. We aren’t talking youthful indiscretions; but rather entitled character flaws that come from not being held accountable for their actions.

To turn your argument on its head, why does the right wing hate Sonia Sotamayor? Isn’t hers also a ‘classic’ American story?

Americans do need a "time out" because the anti-health care chatter is nonstop 24/7. 72% of all Americans want a public health care option, 50% of republicans want it. That said, the Hill seems to be unaware of their own constituents voices particularly the Senate. I've said it before as have others. We manage to find billions each month for the Iraq war yet we argue about finding money for the medical health of Americans. There are some republicans working hard on health care but for the most part their constant "no, we can't do it" reminds me of the little train, "I think I can, I think I can" moral story from childhood. Try harder to find a way, and "yes, we can". Fired up, ready to go!

I'm no economist but $80 billion in drug savings does reduce the cost to the government. Remember the Bush administration failed to negotiate drug costs for the prescription drug legislation--that failure has cost the government and taxpayers big money. The White House shouldn't have to explain that.

Anyone who has ever tried to quit smoking knows that it is a constant battle for several years and even for life. If Pres Obama goes out on the balcony (picture "The West Wing's" Bartlett) once in awhile, let him--he's got more stress in an hour than most of us have in a year. Having been surprised reading on this site that Laura Bush smoked, where did she go?

Senator Ensign may have more trouble than just the affair. Increasing his mistress's salaries immediately after the affair started, hiring the son could require an investigation because the money was paid with republican funds. Not sure this will go away anytime soon.

The President is to speak today from the rose garden. I am anxious to hear what he has to say. Some are so used to instant gratification that we must have it all and we must have it now that they aren't willing to wait longer for stimulus to kick in even though they have been told over and over and over again that it won't be until late Summer early Fall before any noticable results start showing up. We have some of that money working now but it is too little to be making any big splash that would be noticed by the MSM or many in the public. Healthcare reform is being discussed more than just about any bill in the last couple of decades including Hillary's from during the 90's. It takes time to do that stuff but we must get it done. I believe the President will address that too. We shall see. He has spoken to us more in his first half year in office than his predecessor did in his first few years. But then he speaks English where his predecessor spoke gibbrish.

Obama did indeed promise sweeping change, and so far we have not gotten that from him.
By this time in Clinton's first administration he had already passed the Deficit Reduction Act of 1993 (without a single Republicans vote, mind you),and was in the process of authoring the Family Leave Act.
Obama and his followers DID act as if he was "perfect" during the campaign. He not only said he was going to make sweeping changes in DC, but he also said that the Republicans turn "small" issues into "big deals" during election campaigns, and that sort of thing wouldn't "solve our problems."
Well, I wish someone would tell me when the problem-solving starts because so far there hasn't been any.
All I keep hearing is that "things are better simply because the GOP isbn't in power."
I'm sorry, I am a Democrat....but I'm not buying that. This country isn't any better simply because one political party or the other is in charge.
It is made better by the leadership that is provided by whoever sits in that Oval Office, the individual, the man, the human being himself...and what he (or she) does....not what he talks about.
So far all we got, and all we ever get from Obama is TALK.
TALK, TALK, TALK, and nothing else.
"Polls" generaly speaking, reflect exactly what the media, and whoever takes them WANT them to reflect.
The media NEVER criticizes Obama for anything, never calls him out on his mistakes, and never takes him to task for the fact that he is doing things (such as giving away Amabasadorships to large contributors) that he said he wouldn't do.....things he said he was going to change.
The problem I have is that Obama and his supporters are starting to spew the same partisan rhetoric that Republicans threw around when they were in charge....and in thst sense the only difference between them and the GOP is the name of their party.
THAT isn't going to solve problems, and it doesn't show any "leadership".
All it shows, is that it's about "power" and nothing else with Obama and his followers, instead of getting things done and improving upon the way we live in this country.
I refuse to drink that Kool-Aid. I refuse to accept that this kind of partisan rhetoric from someone who said he was going to cghange things, is the best we can do.

For starters, the complete collapse of Obama two major legislative items for health care and the environment. His foreign policy failures to have nothing to say about anything in Iran. The markets collapsing under his wathc again. No jobs created. Quite a few failures from Obama, and you don't even have to look very hard.

Not sure where you did your research, but I have expressed my discontent with Bush on many forums over the years....

I'm glad I've gotten under your skin to the point you address me even though I've not yet posted on this forum - that means I've got you thinking - and that's the most important thing of all.

But I want to clarify - Bush, was, is, and will always be an idiot. I'm not even sure he can help himself. I think he was, for the most part, Cheney's puppet - I don't think he was smart enough to make the decisions he was credited as making without having his strings pulled.

Obama on the the other hand, well, he's much more cunning than Bush, but there is another key and very critical difference - Obama is a socialist!

He may be charismatic, he may be charming, he may be many, many things, but at his core, he's a socialist
and narcissist and Redhead, this country has shed much blood and many tears fighting against socialism, communism, and narcissism.

Think what you will, I've been called many things over the years, but I have been proven correct time and again. Obama will destroy this nation if he hasn't already. He is not out to help you, or to help me. He's out to help himself and create the most immense and interceding government in this country's history and that will, in the end, be his and our downfall, because if you'll remember, there is still half of this country that did not vote for him, do not want him and his socialist ideology and will, if pushed, stand up for the Constitution and their personal rights - and don't forget, most of these people - conservatives - we're the one's with the Bibles and guns.

I greatly fear a civil war in this country as inflation and unemployment spike.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, for whatever Obama will be remembered - he will mostly be remembered as the great divider.

Not white vs. black, majority vs. minority, no, it will be those who believe in God, freedom, and self suffiency vs. those with no believe in anything except Obama, and his minions of lunatic liberals and their millions of muchers who I and the rest of my conservative brothers and sisters pay for.

You don't have to like me. I don't particularly care either way - the Bible says Christians who speak the truth will be persecuted - so be it - but the truth is the truth and it can't be covered up by liberal bullshit forever.

Obama has no right to hold the office of President of the United States - he doesn't deserve it, he didn't earn it, and he isn't fit for it, and time will prove it!
