Republicans, and for that matter people that oppose the government nationalizing health care (and that includes many Democrats), should be upset with the one sided view, Obama and the liberal Democrats view, shown by ABC. Many, if not all, in the audience of Obama's thought health care was "broken". Did ABC ask the question "How many think government is broken?". I bet that would have gotten a high percentage "yes" votes.

Hey Feisty, I'm not defending Sanford, but as I recall John Edwards and Elliot Spitzer are Democrats. This is not a Republican problem. This is a problem with politicians in general. Their egos are unchecked, and they think they can get away with anything.

Democrats snicker when Republicans get caught. Ed Schultz was so full of glee, he acted like Limbaugh! Republicans remember all the Democrats who have fallen from grace. I would like to think that it is a wound-up too tight conservative problem, but it is not. Progressive can be equally guilty of indiscretions.

Most politicians have apologized. Some have resigned from office. A few withstood the heat and remained in office. Senator McCain and Past President Bill Clinton come to mind.

What determines whether a governor or senator survives in office? I think two things: 1) the degree of hypocrisy and 2) if they used taxpayers money. It these two criteria hold. Senator John Ensign and Governor Mark Sanford will not survive.

Our President has set a very high standard when it comes to family values. He is a great husband, father, and an outstanding role model for us all. Before you attack this last comment, when did you take your spouse out on date night? Or buy your kids a swing set and a puppy?

As the nasty details of Gov. Sanford’s personal life unfolds before the world, we continue to hear the sordid details of his infidelity striped bare before the world, couldn’t help but think about all of the self righteous statements and comments he’s made over the years and especially the ones concerning former President Bill Clinton.

Governor Sanford should follow is own advice and resign from his position as Governor. Although I don’t live in South Carolina and neither did he live in Washington when he asked for Former President Clinton’s resignation?

Not only do I feel that it’s the fair thing to do but the right thing to do. I was always taught as a child to be careful what you say about people, because you actually pronounce your own judgments.

The Republican Party in itself is being exposed for what it truly is. There is more news to come about Governor Sanford because he really hasn’t been honest. Why visit your Mistress on Father’s Day when you have young children of your own?

These politicians and ministers kill me with getting up before the public to confess their “sins” to America; playing on our sympathies then keeping their seats. Both he and Sen. Ensign should resign from public service.

They ran their offices on the platforms of self righteousness, it only right that both of them should be “forced” to practice what they’ve preached.

If they want us out of their bedrooms, then they shouldn’t put their bedrooms and family value ideas and dangerous personal religious opinions on the public stage. No man is worthy to sit in the seat of judgment.

By the way…we don’t judge others out here, we voice opinions on subject matter…this statement is for those that will attempt to counter my comment.

Healthcare is just so dead, especially after last night with Obama's awful townhall meeting.

Finally got a small answer on who will get taxes to pay for this boon-doggle - everyone! You'll now have to pay a tax for your healthcare benefit from your employer. Oh, and the others that are going to get taxed are the rich people that give to charities. I'm so sure Obama will sign legislation that takes money from charities. He'd be thrown out of office if he made that stupid of a move.

I think we Dems should go on record as acknowleging that the political winds are at our back and not the Repubs'. We really don't hold a moral superiority; we just haven't gotten caught - lately.

With that said, Governor Sanford, how do you solve a problem like Maria? Because I am a cynic, let me just say - I think she is pregnant. As Senator Ensign just proved - 'family' men don't typically 'voluntarily' throw their careers away, there are usually extenuating circumstances. It sounds like Mr. Sanford is in a legitimate pickle.

My thoughts are with his family as they sort this out.

I didn't see the 'after the jump' portion of the 'town hall' in the blue room last night. We cut to local news and I flipped over to Rachel, when the news was over I cut back to ABC; but they were showing some lame rerun. I flipped to CSPAN and the crowd was dispersing.

The invective about ABC doing a 'fluff' piece on healthcare is more whining. If anyone thinks this isn't one of the most important Public Interest issues of our time, they are completely out of touch. FOX has an entire channel dedicated to the naysayers, if I want to hear the chant of "can't", I know where to go, they don't need to advertise.

I so love how Barack is taking his case for the public option for health care reform to the people and on national tv, just bummed I missed it. The media is reporting in a manner that draws viewers, subscribers, and news stand sales. Plus, whether you like him or not, he is at the center of much that is going on.

Every single day I see comments in papers, on the web, in news magazines, and on TV from the republicans about how Obama's plan or actions(pick one, because they say it about all of them) are wrong, they are socialistic, and are going to destroy our country. I watched the ABC broadcast last night. As FR stated, Pres Obama once again showed his intelligence by the fact that he understands the full scope of the health care problems we face. It is unfortunate, that many on the right cannot look beyond "democratic liberalism" to see the intelligence he has, he is a realist not some scarey cartoon that the GOP portrays. Put aside the disagreement on policy and see Pres Obama as the smart guy who "gets it" and give him a chance instead of criticizing everything. I know, that's too much to ask. I believe that health care reform is crucial because in 10-20 years, the majority of us will not be able to afford insurance, companies will stop providing it due to costs and profit loss--that's the 800 lb gorilla in room that the republicans ignore.

Watching the long clips of Sanford's rambling, sometimes nonsensical confession yesterday, it just smacks that the only reason he confessed was he got caught and he knew it when the reporter met him at the airport. His tears were crockodile ones because he knew his political career was probably damaged beyond repair. He gets NO sympathy from me but his family does. What a hypocrit.

Iran is a mess for sure. No doubt the US must put discussions with them on hold until things calm down a bit. Somehow, even though the protests have been stopped for now, one must hope that this will turn into a quiet revolution, a revolution within. As has been said often, the genie is out of the bottle.

Barbour might be a good candidate for 2012 but FR has it right--old, white and southern which may not play as well as it did 15 years ago. He is smart and a much better spokesperson that Newt Gingrich.

The immigration problem needs to be solved but it could wait until early next year although working on it in committes and geting ready makes good sense. One thing I've noticed is that democrats are willing to tackle the hard stuff. What did the republicans do from 2001-2006 except cut taxes and start two wars. Maybe they did more but most of what they did was routine and easy.

'...Some Mark Sanford trips were taxpayer-paid

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has taken at least three taxpayer-paid trips to Argentina, however, it’s unclear whether he met his girlfriend during any of them.

At his news conference in Columbia Wednesday, Sanford said he paid for his most recent trip with is own money. “It was my own ticket,” he told reporters.

But sometime after his 2002 election as governor, Sanford traveled to Argentina on the dime of the South Carolina Department of Commerce.

Though it’s unclear precisely when the trip occurred, it likely would have taken place after he had met the woman. Sanford said Wednesday he met the woman eight years ago, though a romantic relationship did not develop until one year ago.

Sanford also traveled to China and Brazil through the state commerce department, and a review of its records late last year by state press found that taxpayers footed a total bill of $21,488 in Sanford travel. The governors’ office also spent $1,976 in travel for Sanford, according to the review.

In his January 2007 State of the State address, Sanford used changing air travel times between Miami and Buenos Aires as an example of technological innovations being carried out in his state...'

Of course in President Obama we trust. What else is out there? The republicans, big business, lobbyists, special interests who have had control of our country for far too long and brought us to our knees??
We cannot depend or expect the insurance, drug companies, AMA, hospitals etc to even consider giving up their profits, bonuses, greed and quest for power without government intervention.
Public option is public choice. Of course the republicans do not want this. They sold us down the river many years ago.

If you spend money, it has to go into labor, materials, or profit. Labor obviously generates jobs. Materials generate jobs, too. Even if the material comes from outside the US, it takes labor to move it. So there is zero doubt that the stimulus is starting to generate some jobs. The problem is that it takes a long time to turn around an economy.

Social conservatism hits rock bottom?

I hate to break it to you, but there is a social conservative in the WHITE HOUSE.

He has done nothing about DADT, which, despite the pretzel logic of the obama worshippers, he HAS the power to reverse as Commander in Chief. Need proof? Ask yourself-how did it get written into law in the first place. That's right, politics fans, Bill Clinton signed it as an executive order in the face of fierce political opposition. Polls at the time showed that 70% of people opposed having gays serve in the military. Thanks to the dialogue opened by that signing, the polls have reversed, and now 70% support having gays serve openly in the military. (These numbers are on the gallup site).

So what's the problem?

As to DOMA-while I agree that the president does not have the power to overturn that law on his own, he DID NOT have to submit a brief supporting it. That he chose to do so speaks volumes.

If that ain't a social conservative, I don't know what is.

As to Sanford, I have the same feeling about this that I had about the Edwards coverage-it should have been left alone. If my appeals for privacy in private lives are not enough, look at what it did for the President's coverage of his ABC lovefest-it knocked it out of the news. My state's newspaper front page was all about Sanford-Obama got page 3.

Just please, PLEASE, promise that if there is ever a hint, whiff, or rumor about the president you will spare us the coverage. He does have young children, and WE DON'T NEED TO KNOW.

That's an interesting take. I was struck in his press conference at how much it pained him to hurt the lover, and the hurt to his wife was incidental. I think he's just truly in love and can't think straight, something we usually get out of our system by the time we're 25 or so. (Yes, I'm still in love with my husband of 17 years, but that swooning inability to think straight just because you're in love has been in the rear view mirror a long time).

After authorizing another TRILLION dollars, on top of the TARP money already authorized, what has Barack wrought: Unemployment over 10%, gas over $3/gal, manufacturing sector in worst slump since end of WWII, April housing starts lowest on record.
