A House leadership source says that, as of right at this moment, the votes are not there yet to pass the energy bill that the president is talking about this afternoon.

A full-court press in effect. House Democrats want to vote tomorrow, but won't put it on the floor if the votes aren't there to put it over the top.

People, I repete...you have no excuses...you won't be going back after 2012 if you don't get with the primary reason you were elected.

Time for Nancy Pelosi to crack the whip and line up her huge Democratic majority to get energy legislation passed. That and Barack needs to go over to the House and read the riot act to the recalcitrant representatives so that they get the hint they need to stop sitting on the fence and get voting for what's best for our country and people.

It's been too long waiting for a good energy bill that doesn't give the oil companies free rein to rip us off with their overpriced oil and gasoline while giving them tax breaks they don't need or deserve. It's also time to clean up the coal industry's massive polluting of our air by forcing them into cap and trade.

There's no such thing as clean coal, all they're doing is trying to hide all that carbon dioxide underground. All it will take is a big earthquake near one of those carbon dioxide storage wells and out comes all that poisonous gas real quick. We need to replace coal fired electricity with clean energy from wind and solar. Plus we should make a massive investment in fusion power research, we should not be so far behind Britain and France in this area.

I know change is hard. It is so easy just to wallow in the dirt and not move forward.

But enough is enough!!

It is time to make a committment for our future.

Saying no is getting to be tired. And I have noticed that even the GOP is getting tired of repeating the same old message (see the sighs and dead eyes).

EVERYTHING CANNOT BE WRONG. If you say no to everything it begins to lose its message. The American people are going to see this as consistently selfish, political and uncaring.

THINK PROGRESS: On Fox News this morning, Bachmann repeated her determination to break the law. She also suggested that the Obama administration could use the Census data for nefarious purposes — including the imprisonment of Americans in concentration camps:

BACHMANN: If we look at American history, between 1942 and 1947, the data that was collected by the census bureau was handed over to the FBI and other organizations, at the request of President Roosevelt, and that’s how the Japanese were rounded up and put into the internment camps. I’m not saying that’s what the Administration is planning to do. But I am saying that private, personal information that was given to the census bureau in the 1940s was used against Americans to round them up.

It is difficult to say whether this report is reliable as others have said the reverse. The process of passing legislation is like making sausage, very sloppy and not one that appears sensible when it gets much public attention.

That said, I have confidence that the President and his team will get a decent bill through both houses. Next to health care this is our most important long range priority.

GWB was very much a liberal. Those two wars were undeclared police action and invention of Truman (a democrat, and liberal), the reasoning was to make the world safe for democracy an invention of Woodrow Wilson (a democrat, and a liberal/progressive). Expanding medicare, an invention of Lyndon Johnson (a democrat and a liberal), cramming morality down peoples throat well how is that different from cramming socialist domestic programs down peoples throat? It's not really; it's government dictating lifestyle. Franklin Roosevelt's invention (A democrat and Socialist/Liberal) How about the patriot act kind of smacks of Wilsonian domestic policies leading up to the first world war, i.e. he improsoned Eugene Debs for publicly saying negative things about him. The man ran for office from prison and his campaign button read Convict #9653 for president.

So yeah he cut taxes and then went on a spending spree that's not being a republican or conservative that's being an idiot. I won't dispute George Bush jr. was stupid, but if we're talking policy he was more liberal than conservative.

He was a liberal with an eternal streak of stupid.

The bill is a joke any way you look at it. To get it out of committee, the ferret look-alike Waxman had to pull out any regulations until 2020 to get the moderates to vote for it, and then had to back load it with draconian regulations to get the liberals to vote for it. Before any of this happens, a sane congress and president will get elected and repeal all this nonsense.

So the GOP can't stop the bill numerically...why exactly can't liberals get it together? They have an extremely weak opposition; this is the time to strike isn't. Mind you I"m not rooting for them, but the subtle disagreements they have had over this and medical care reform make me laugh. Can no one in the liberal elite admit another idea might be better than their own? They make much better victims IMHO.

How can anyone vote against "energy"
We all need "energy" - right!

However, what they (including MSNBC) arent telling you is...

The estimated increase in revenue for the government is over 350 BILLION per YEAR!!! (and will go UP)

But dont worry - only the people that use energy will pay this tax - or the people that buy products that were made with energy will also pay the tax. I'm sure that Obama's promise to not raise taxes on anyone making less than 250k wont mind being lied to - again!

This plan (if passed) will result in the largest tax increase in THE HISTORY OF THE USA!!!!

And - we dont even know what will be done with the taxes that Al Gore's Company will be collecting OR what the tax will hope to reduce in CO2???

What would you guys have done if Bush proposed a 350 Billion Tax to be collected by one of his buddies???

Wouldn't you at least like to ask questions about it?

Why aren't the "news" media (not like they really exist) asking questions about it?

Why can't I offer certificates to the companies in the USA? Why does only Al Gore's Company get to sell these certificates? can you say (NO-BID)

It's a 1200 page bill, and Congress just got it yesterday? This bill is going to have the same problems the stimulus bill had. There are things in this bill that congreemen/women don't even know about. It's written by lobbyists, like moveon and media matters, and not legislators. Pelosi is forcing a vote on something that should take weeks to go over by all the members of the House.

The companies that produce the things we buy use energy - taxing the energy they use will reduce the energy they use HOW?

2nd question: How will making less products in the USA (the only companies paying the tax) help in the recession?

Answer: "It wont"
It will make companies either produce less products (and need less people to make them) or they will move their production to countries that dont tax as heavy.

Our taxes may well go up due to this bill. I'm fine with that if it accomplishes the twin goals of reducing our dependency on foreign sources of oil and moves our economy to green sources of energy. Yes it may be painful for us. It's unfortunate our current mindset is that we can't make any sacrifices, we can't feel any pain, we have to have it all. Thank heavens that has only been a recent cultural norm for us. Our history as a nation is filled with examples of sacrifice for the common good. Well, perhaps its time we starting do so. If not we may have ruined any hopes our children have for a future anywhere comparable to ours.

The WSJ claims the bill would be the biggest raise in taxes in American history. And these taxes will be regressive in that a greater percentage of poorer peoples income will be affected by these taxes.

So much for Obama's promise not to raise taxes on the middle class.

Votes aren't going to be there either. The cap and trade bill is nothing but a giant job killer. Any vote for the bill is vote against American jobs. Any jobs effected by cap and trade will shipped to Inidan and China where they'll be cheaper.

Job killer? How does it kill jobs? Since both President Obama and Senator McCain campaigned in FAVOR of cap and trade there must have been something appealing about it. I have heard of other "the sky is falling" parts of it but job loss is a new one. Please explain what jobs will be lost by companies being responsible citizens and doing their part to help out. Those favoring Capitalism should love this to death. It would meand that your precious polluter can buy chits that would allow him to continue to pollute as long as chits were available from those who are more responsible and curb filthy output on their own or in industries that don't pollute. One side continues to pollute while the other makes money for not polluting. Seems fair and even to me. New jobs as traders would be created. Companies would keep their current operation in tact as they wouldn't have to spend more on devices that clean their emissions and those that do clean up already wouldn't stop and may well expand with the new 21st Century mindset of companies being responsible citizens.
