Seeking to avoid the legislative minutia that has consumed some of his predecessors, President Barack Obama is pushing his agenda through Congress by outlining a broad vision of his policy goals and then letting lawmakers fill in the blanks. Republicans would like to make him pay for that. GOP leaders on Capitol Hill see in Obama’s approach a chance to paint the young president as disengaged from the work required to address the country’s ills. 'It’s the perpetual campaign,' said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. 'It’s photo-ops; it doesn’t happen to include doing the hard work it takes to solve big problems that he talks about but I don’t ever see him doing.'"

I know where the Republicans are coming from and I realize that this is a tired political stunt BUT it still breaks my heart to see Barack Obama working SO HARD and being so disrepected.

When is someone in real power going to speak up and stop this bad and immoral behavior?

It's so good to have a president who doesn't rub Angela the wrong way. Way too much has been made of the tiff between Barack and Angela regarding their disagreement over how to do economic stimulus. We have to use more government spending to lift our bushwhacked economy than Germany does theirs.

I think that al Maliki's recent remarks about how having US troops leave Iraqi cities as a victory for Iraq tells us all we need to know about how well we are thanked for all that blood and money we wasted in Iraq. Yeah so much for being greeted with open arms as liberators. And we're going to keep over 130,000 troops in a country of ingrates until next January why? It was time to pull out of that worthless country of ingrates years ago but no War Criminal Bush just had to keep us there so he could keep pouring billions of taxpayer dollars down the Halliburton, KBR, Blackwater drain so his crooked conservative business pals could rip off us taxpyers real good. We should pull all of our troops out of Iraq now and let the Iraqis handle their own internal affairs.

We need a guest worker program in this country. While I can understand the position of those who followed the rules and gained entry into this country legally, we cannot be so idealogical as to believe that we will deport 12 million people-it will not be done.

therefore, a guest worker program makes sense. However, taking seriously the objections of those wh are against a 'path to citizenship', 'amnesty', etc., I propose that we give those who are here illegally, but working, productive people, a card other than a green card. Make it orange, purple, - whatever suits you. Holders of these cards will be afforded the protection of labor laws, will not fear to call the police if they are victims of crimes-and will be precluded from seeking citizenship. Of curse, they should be allowed to do so if they go back to their home countries for the specified time and return legally, so it would not be a permanent bar to citizenship.

I believe that this solution takes all issues into consideration, and is fair to everyone.

The American people are still waiting for mission accomplished in Iraq. I never saw it and now when U.S. troops are leaving Iraq cities the violence is getting worse. Its become the Pandora's box that progressive thinkers w/ a grasp of history warned against and the neo-cons, meglomaniac/war mongers who used 911 for their own nefarious political,monetary ie., Darth Vador's Halliburtin, and geopolitical gains. If anything Obama is not disengaged. The Congress makes the laws and the President executes them. He lets Congress know what laws he would like to execute and let them do their job. Funny how the Constitution, when followed, works so well isn't it?

As for disengaged Presidents we need look only to the last one. He was to inept to know and really didn't care and then there was Reagan who was too old and mind going to be engaged in the workings of the gov'ment. They'd brief him before his nap and after his nap and he was good with that. It was called a "hands off" style of management. Hands off is fine but when one listens and is briefed by the likes of Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld and John Ashcroft he is being given the worst information possible.

Living in a border state Senator McCain understands the need for a guest worker program. Paying union wages for picking fruits and veggies would increase the cost of food exponentially to the point of unafordability. If the unions want good inexpensive food on the tables of their workers and the working poor they need not push for higher wages. Caesar Chavez was more about safety and about breaks etc than for pay and so that was fine. Keeping track of who is where among immigrant guest workers is also a good idea. I believe this is one of the few things I would have to agree with Sen. McCain about.

I suppose Sarkozy calling Obama 'dangerously naive' was simply a poor choice of words? Or that his statements that he wuld not send a boat for Obama at the D-Day commemoration, so that he could have the opportunity to prove that he could walk on water, was the kind of thing you say about someone you respect?

It is obvioous that you do not travel. I do. The French and the Germans laugh at us-they, who elected accomplished adults to positions of leadership cannot believe that we elected-this is a quote- a rock star.

Don't worry, since there is no talk whatsoever of tort reform or liability caps, there will always be a Trial Lawyer right there to sue Uncle Sam and get you the treatment and the money (the lawyer) deserves! It is Win-Win.

You can sue the government for much more than you can sue Blue Cross, J&J, Aetna or Merck (or GE Healthcare)!

no jo, no bo I totally agree with you. This would account for people who have not entered this country legally and take away the reward of amnesty. Also children of "purple card" workers would not be allowed citizenship if born in this country. They would be citizens of their parents home country and have to apply for citizenship here.

An idea worth investigating.
