Who will pay for this?

I don't want to drown people in numbers, but if you divide the 10 year projected cost ($1.1 Trillion) by the number of people in the US (360 Million) the cost is expected to be ~$30,000 PER PERSON

That's an additional $3,000 per year, or $254/month - PER PERSON, not per taxpayer! If you have a family of 4 - that's another $1,000/month! (Remember that 1965 Medicare cost projections were off by a factor of 12 by 1990) It will cost more than $1.1 Trillion!

We're broke! California is progressive in social policy and tax policy, and they are issuing IOU's. How long until the Feds have to do the same?

Divide that over 10 years, that is 909.00 every year, or 75.00 every month. Not including any additional savings from streamlining medicare or overpayments.

Speaking of which-you engaged in some 'selective reporting' on the Quinnipiac poll. You touted the 72% approval of the 'pbulic option', but left out the important part-how to pay for it.

Quinnipiac reports that 3% of people are willing to pay between $1000 and $3000 for it; 15% are willing to pony up between $500 and $1000; 27% up to $500; and 45% are willing to pay-nothing.

Those numbers are per year, folks.

You also neglected to mention that the number of people who agree that 'the government has a responsibility to make sure everyone has health care is currently 53%. That sounds good, until you compare it to the number who aggred with that statement in February 2007, (64%), or even in May 2008 (61%). It seems that the more people hear, the less they think of it.

Oh, and don't forget-58% think that government health care would be a 'bad thing'.

In interpreting the data, Quinnipiac states "there sems to be a disconnect between the projected price tag. . .to overhaul the health system, and how much the vast majority of Americans are willing to pay for it. . .(I)t raises questions about whether the American people understand the financial enormity of what is under consideration."

By the way, Obama's approval of his handling of health care is 46% approval, 42% disapproval.

Don't take my word for it. Go to the Quinnipiac site, and read it for yourselves. First Read's selective reporting notwithstanding, Obama care does not have much wind behind its sails.

Here's my question to Mr Boehner. . .
A few miles from where I live, there is a huge resurfacing project going on up and down Cicero. This resurfacing project was funded by the Recovery Act. I see people working on the road every time I go past. Where would those people have been working if they weren't working on the stimulus funded project? Where are their wages being spent and is it possible that those wages are supporting additional jobs?

The problem with his outrageous rhetoric is that it talks in absolute terms. As in, republicans had absolutely NO input into the stimulus plan, it is an absolute failure, and has created absolutely NO new jobs.

This line of attack has very little credibility! But then maybe that is why the republican party is in such shambles today!

I've noticed something very troubling as of recent.
There are an increasing number of late day posts that just out and out distort and misinform the masses. My belief this is an organized action. It's like clockwork.

FR stops updating around EST 4:00pm- 4:30pm, you'll notice the last story of the day, there is someone jumping on the first few posts with absolute garbage. These are the same doofuses that parrot chain email talking points and have absolutely zero facts to back up their claims.

The reason for this I believe is that this is the most seen area of FR for the evening hours...people who browse this area after work will only scan the last few stories of the day, and their attention will be focused on the first few posts.

I'm sending out a bat signal to all my tried and true regulars. Nash, Fiesty, Jawillie, Eagle, Clara, Anita, Eric, Chris, Tzarlaran, Ron, Ed, Pat, and all others I've missed to work and watch this time of day so that we can combat outrageous claims and misinformation.

Actually, I think it's just maybe one or two dittoheads who post under 5 or 6 different IDs. If you look at the writing styles of some of them, you'll note similarities. Thanks Pat … But we need to add the fact that inflation was over 10% at the same time and all the experts have said that this recession is worse and will take longer to recover.
Also Reagan started in 1981 with the National debt at 38% of GDP and by 1989 it was at 54%. His policies caused the debt to continue to rise to 68% of GDP by the start of the Clinton administration. See how well all those tax cuts helped the debt.
But let us not confuse the conservatives with facts.

Maybe it is because people aren't hearing the word "option"....it is one "option"...the way the GOP talks, they make it sound like you will have to go through the government to get to health care or you wont have any at all. There is a big difference between it being one option and the only option.

I was going to say something about Cantor's absurd suggestion that the Republicans offered a job making plan...when in reality it was 2 pages with no numbers, and made up entirely of tax cuts and sunny language meaning nothing.
