The President isn't issueing hand outs. You republicans had been on "welfare" and living in government housing for eight years and collecting assistance.

1. Unemployment over 10% and rising.

(a). Unemployment was expected to rise over 10%. We are still experiencing the spike from the recession. The recession started in 2007. Unemployment will level off, it's starting to already.

2. Gasoline averaging $3 per gallon.

(b) Gasoline won't go over $3 a gallon. the national average is at $2.63 a gallon and during summer months gas always increases and decreases in August. It isn’t $5.00 a gallon is is?

3. Despite the hype, no end in sight for Iraq, Afghanistan or North Korean problems.

(c). And you can thank your president for Iraq and Afghanistan. You voted for both wars when you voted for Bush. The North Korean problem didn't just occur either. The Bush administration "never" entertained serious peace talks with them. North Korea has alway's been a threat to everyone's national security. Antother mess left to clean up by this administration, like all of the others.

4. GM, one of Americas largest and oldest manufacturing firms is now a bankrupt shell.

(d) Rick Waggoner (CEO)(sp) thank’s for the colapse, Bob Lutz, Chairman. Both were in bed with Bush and Cheney’s oil companies. GM caused it's own demise...did President Obama build gas guzzles that attracted revenue for the oil companies? Waggoner knew that GM would not continue to survive. The "first" Hummer is a prime example. Ford Motor Company hasn't collapsed. It was a management issue and GM will emerge out of bankruptcy stronger, debt free.

Bush and the republicans were calling for it to fail in November and December of 2008 weren’t they? Yet, as of today here is the latest news. “Harry Wilson, a member of President Barack Obama's automotive task force, testified Wednesday that the government has no plans to continue funding GM past July 10 if the sale is not approved by then. Wilson said a quick sale is needed, because the government cannot keep sinking billions in tax dollars into the company for an open-ended period of time with no guarantee of success”.

“Richman argued Thursday that a traditional or accelerated restructuring of GM under Chapter 11 could still allow the automaker to meet its goal of emerging from court oversight in less than 90 days, but give everyone, including the bondholders, a fair chance to negotiate with the company.

They will survive and be leaner Pete, they actually have plans to open a new plant in Michigan.

Rush Limbaugh, titular head of the conservative wing of the Republican Party, was visibly upset at the loss of Mark Sanford. Limbaugh stated, “He (Sanford) would have been the JFK of the GOP.” Rush does not necessarily like Romney, Gingrich, or Huckabee. Palin has been his favorite all along.

Limbaugh, and maybe others, went to Sarah and said something like, “You are the hope for the conservatives and the party needs you to run in 2012.” Resign your governorship and you will be free to move about the country. (Sorry Southwest for borrowing your line.) You can unite libertarians, conservatives and women (Rush does not understand women). Money will be no object. You are a great fundraiser. You will get paid for your appearances.

Sarah is running for President. She loves the microphone, the crowds, being the center of attention. I am not joking: She is running…and not a foot race.

ACT II
Preparation

Palin will be invited by prominent Republicans throughout the country. It will appear as though she is raising money, but in the next three and a half years Sarah will be creating her own political network. She will go to each state to meet Republicans and sell the conservative viewpoint. “Mittens” and “Huck” do not have her star power and with conservative backing, she will likely win the GOP nomination.

ACT III
Implementation

Storyline: Girl plays hard to get, but succumbs to the rich boys’ advances. “Oh gee, I tried to quit, but ‘the people’ just kept asking me out”. Watch it happen.

If the “calling” is 2012, there is not a single good and honorable reason to resign this early. If she were to run in 2010 to replace Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski then it would be reasonable.

My guess is that she:
1-wants to get her book deal off the ground.
2-hit the lecture circuit to build wealth.
3-campaign for other Republicans, building a strong network while keeping her brand in front of voters.
4-Build campaign funds via Sarah PAC.

Repubs have accused we dems of fearing Palin from the moment she appeared on the scene last August. I’m ready to admit you were right. For all of Obama’s talents, awesome message, crowds, pyrotechnics, and charm offensive at the dem’s convention, that woman eclipsed it all, and galvanized McCain’s campaign single handedly at the Republican’s otherwise lame convention! I thought to myself, ‘this is a testament to the power of inspiration Almighty G-D has given women ’. As in chess, McCain brought out his Queen, and gave we dems a case of cotton mouth. Thankfully, she opened hers with Gibson, and Couric unscripted. Afterward, my household relaxed, and gave our checkbook a much needed break from all the desperation donations to Obama’s campaign. Watching her interviews on a constant loop, we cringed with delight. The stock market crashed, and their chance at victory went with it. Americans said, ‘sorry, we ain’t the ones to put these two in charge of our economic recovery’. ‘CHANGE, AND HOPE’ sprang anew!
Given her antics this weekend in resigning her post as Governor, the e-mails released exposing her dishonesty about Todd being a member of AIP, and all the ethics charges against her, I’m nervous again. In addition to being woefully uninformed, she’s far less stable, and genuine than was thought….even by repubs. But there are still a bunch of folks who won’t care. She’ll gripe about bloody politics, while seeking to gut Obama with the likes of her vicious ‘paling around’ attacks. She puts herself forward as a true believer in freedom, but seeks to oppress the media by breathing threats of litigation if they dare report on the charges of malfeasance she is suspected of. Yet her base won’t own up to the hypocrisy.
I liked Bush 41 with his thousand points of light. I bristled at the Presidencies of Nixon, and Reagan, but didn’t worry much about the country. (I even learned to respect Ronnie and his patriot missiles during Desert Storm).
However, if Palin somehow ascends to the nomination, I will be afraid. As Al Gore has said,” elections matter”, and that would be too close indeed.

Hope everyone had a safe, happy Independence Day! Now, back to the grind-which seems easier to take now that summer has (finally!) arrived in the northeast.

I had an interesting conversation with a dear friend who was at work in lower Manhattan during the photo-op fiasco. (You remember-Air Force One, flying low by the Statue of Liberty). She and her co-workers were evacuated-she worked on the 35th floor. One of her pregnant collegues fell down some of the stairs-it was a disaster. Well, she wrote the White House a scathing e-mail, lambasting the decision. For a month, she heard nothing. Then, she began to get 3 and 4 e-mails a day-all kinds of 'heads up' on political agenda, urging her to write or call her congressman/Senators, as well as the ever-popular 'send money'. I guess no one actually READS the e-mails that come in - they have no idea what is in them; just assume they are from supporters. No wonder they are having trouble 'mobilizing' the millions they supposedly have on tap to support the agenda.

By the way, First Read-how many blood donors did they manage to get?

She didn't mention anything of having to quit to take care of her special needs child. How is she able to take care of this child jetting around the country? This is not an easy task for a snow mobiling husband to do on his own.

I use to volunteer helping special needs adults, and that was no easy task...rewarding but not easy. I think Mr. Mom better hire some help.

Hey Jonathan - The reason the media has yet to draw a comparison between the Smoot Hawley Act and the new Cap and Trade bill is that they are not similar. The Smoot Hawley Act of 1930 was passed by the repugnant ones under repugnant one president Herbert Hoover (he who caused the Great Depression) to entrench trade protectionism favored by the repugnant ones. In trying to aid the American farmer they ended up nearly killing international trade and harming our farmers.

The new Cap and Trade bill doesn't deal with international trade so no similarity there. Actually the new Cap and Trade bill is a compromise from what us Liberals want, namely a Cap on the energy industry pollution mainly from coal. The Liberals allowed your Bushwhacker to tack on the Trade portion which is merely a capitalistic scam to allow the rich and greedy to scam us out of our money. By allowing companies to trade pollution credits on an open market the freemarket freeloaders are trading us all into higher energy prices as hedge funds will jack up the prices of those pollution credits the same way they've jacked up the price of oil. The false cries of this Cap and Trade bill "taxing" us is another great right lie as the government won't be cashing in on the profits, it's the rich and greedy hedge funds who will profit at our expense as they did with oil last year.

So blame the new higher energy prices on your freemarket freeloader pals, not on Obama and us Liberals. Your tenuous grasp of history shows me that you did no research into this false comparison because if you had you would never have made such a nonsensical comparison. It sounds more like you got your mistaken idea from fox and freaks or the sludge report and not from original thinking.

A CBS piece detailing several leaked emails in which she asked the McCain campaign to lie about Todd Palin's 7-year membership in a secessionist party. McCain strategist Steve Schmidt responded to her request saying that Todd was a member, and it was a secessionist party and he wasn't going to create an issue in the media if it didn't exist already, nor would he lie for her.

I find it interesting that the Republicans who screeched that President Obama wasn't talking tough enough about the suppression of Iranian democracy are mysteriously silent about the coup in Honduras. Why hasn't BombBomb McCain proclaimed "we are all Hondurans now"?

It seems that to Republicans, "democracy" means as much as the "sanctity of marriage" means to Republicans Mark Sanford and Sen. Ensign: Nothing. Rule by rightwing thugs is just fine with them, whether it comes by way of a coup d'etat or by Surpreme Court edict.

That one paragraph title should read "To Russia With Love" as President Obama tries to undo the damage done by the master of arrogance and ignorance, War Criminal Bush. So good to hear Putin's Puppet Medvedev sounding conciliatory and willing to engage in meaningful talks about nuclear arms reduction, something we didn't hear the past 8 years. It will be good to have Russia as an ally instead of as a reborn Cold War enemy.

No wonder health care costs have gone through the roof when they waste so much money hiring those disgusting lobbyists to bribe politicians to allow the freemarket freeloaders to rip us all off. If Shakespeare were alive today he'd have penned the line "kill all the lobbysists". I am so glad that President Obama is not one of those politicians bought out by the medical industry's lobbysists, like the whole evil elephant party is.

I am so laughing that the Wasilla Hillbilly is passing the buck before her incompetent term is finished. Levi's impending tell all book on the Wasilla Gorilla's family escapades will generate plenty of $$ for Levi's family also.

Real American's can only Hope that the GOP will be Insane enough to bring this Clown (Palin) of a Politician as thier standard bearer for 2012 (or any following year for that matter)! I agree with this. Economic activity and production is heading to all time lows. When unemployment is so high, there is no one producing anything, and fuel use goes way down. Too bad that people that are un-employed (10%) or under-employed (another 10%) can't afford the gas either way.

Hope everyone had a terrific July 4th weekend. Beautiful weather the week before and since but it poured buckets and was pretty chilly in Iowa July 4th. Fortunately, it stopped for the late afternoon picnics, parades and fireworks.

Palin, the drama queen. Most of her statement made no sense whatsoever. Yes, candidates have left office to pursue the presidency but the difference I have seen is that most of the governors finish their terms of office first, and then pursue the future (like Pawlenty). Pres Obama and other candidates continued to return to the Senate for important votes and kept in touch with legislative work. Personally, this is WAY TOO EARLY to start campaigning for 2012. We wonder why nothing gets done in Washington. The media could do Americans a great deal of good if they stopped discussing 2012, because it has no relevance to today. Guess it makes good chatter.

Should be an interesting two days in Russia for our president. Have not seen much coverage yet but maybe that will be later today. It was nice to see the entire family arrive. What a great opportunity for the girls. No doubt there will be something significant even if it is just a start.

$1.4 million a day lobbying against health care reform. Every American should be discussing why the private insurance sector is so against a public option and most of us know the answer. Private insurance might have to be competitive and fair to its clients rather than dictators of our health.

But Obama pledged $ 62 Billion over the next 10 years for more foreign aid! Foreign aid! Four times as much money given away to ungrateful foreigners while GM and Ford languish and America’s roads, bridges and ports crumble in massive disrepair.

Obama Lie #4 – If we don’t pass the Stimulus Package, unemployment will go over 8%.

Hey Chuck Todd I loved your revelation last week on Hardball that you and I have somnething else in common to liking politics, namely we're both Dodgers fans. Sarah Palin wants to call her own plays. If she was ever to rise to a higher office, I see more a George W. than President Obama style in that she wants to run the show and make the decisions on her own, like Bush, rather than surround herself with a wide array of qualified advisers, listen to their variety of opinions, then form a decision like the present president.
Both styles have their advantages. In a military crisis, lightening fast decisions must be made. With economic problems, a more deliberate course allows for safer changes in direction.
That said, I seriously believe the former Alaska governor has personality issues that border on a disorder. I will leave it to those with more initials after their name than I have to make the diagnosis, but listen to her dialogue filled with I and me and it is apparent she is full of herself.

It was obvious by her scattered delivery at her press conference that she was not using a teleprompter. This may have been a tip from Rush or Hannity, but it was a poor choice. More speeches like this should show the advantages of President Obama's skillful use of the modern day equivalent of 3" by 5" cards will hopefully kill the absurd teleprompter issue once and for all, but I doubt it.

Just pray that it will be Fox that offers her employment, because I fear any other news source will seriously lose credibility. She will pull the ratings, though, just as she is the republican Party's most effective fundraiser. Also, let's hope she has learned to keep her children out of the spotlight...

I don't recall President Obama saying that unemployment wouldn't go over 8%. You had better produce the facts. There was no way that he or anyone else could make that prediction.

I want facts ONLY...no rehetoric... He didn't guarantee the stimulas, nor did he guarantee how long it would take to get into the economy. Economist did the singing. President implored both house to act quickly to pass it. He cautioned each day's delay being devastating on the economy's up turn. Did he not?

I know why Quitter Palin cut and ran when she did, she knew that Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were on vacation this week and couldn't make fun of her breaking news. In trying to bury her resignation screech on a holiday Friday she only guaranteed her story would have legs this week. I'm sure we'll find out that she had to quit because she knew her last 1.5 years would have exposed her as incompetent as can be.
