Yet, Kenyan officials are furious that Obama did not plan a stop in that country. He is stopping in Ghana, but not in his father's homeland.

Considering that every president with even tenuous ties to Ireland stops on the way, to 'celebrate their Irish heritage', it makes one wonder why Obama chose to ignore Kenya. I realize that there have been political problems in that country, but Ireland has had more than its share of those, too.

Perhaps it is because he is a fan of the opposition to the current government, and does not wish to give the outward appearance of endorsing it. If so, it should give pause to his willingness to meet with the current government in Iran. Unfortunately, that kind of thinking involves logic; not the idealogue's strong suit.

President Obama needs to tell the pope a dope to buzz off on abortion and stem cell research. It's the pope a dope that is screwing up our planet by fighting responsible population growth by fighting responsible birth control. It's the massive population growth that is accelerating world hunger and pollution. As our population grows our forests get deforested and that means the planet is less capable of getting rid of our carbon dioxide emissions as more people make more carbon dioxide. Time for global population growth control before it's too late.

With all the hate on this board maybe he should ask forgiveness for the haters as he meets with the Pope.

Instead of looking for any little, teensy,itty bitty thing to blow out of proportion and criticize why not just recognize that the leader of the free world and the leader of several million Catholics will be chatting at the Vatacan. No two people will ever totally agree on everything and both of those men are smart enough to know that.

Pope Benedict knows that Obama is a Protestant and not a Catholic but he also knows that there are certain things Christians have in common. He looks for the common ground rather than that which is different between them. The President understands that the Catholic Church, like it or not, has a degree of power in the world. It is good to exchange ideas and thoughts between the two.

People say that a person in a secular job in a nation of FREE religion or freedom FROM religion must be a blubbering, slobbering adherant to evangelical beliefs or he is a hypocrite. That is ridiculous. Many of our past Presidents have been deists and not necessarily Christians. Like any good Protestant he and his family are looking for a church to attend while living in Washington. After all they'll be living there 8 years. Catholics don't have that problem as the mass is pretty much the same no matter where one goes. Personalities of priests and maybe a small change in congreation people's attitudes may cause Catholics to attend mass at a different church but overall there isn't the big differences there are between Protestant religions. Despite differences, however, we should look for what is common among us not what is different. This us vs. them attitude is partly how we got into some of the messes we are in today. Obama is trying to mend those broken relationships.

This is WAY OUT of Obie's element and a bit hypocritical because Obie has dissed any form of religion since the innaugaration, having religious symbols covered at places he has spoken, nixing the Prayer Breakfast and refusing to send a flyover to the God and Country Festival, ending a 42 year tradition.

Opposition to human blastocytic stem cell research is illogical. Those stem cells are derived from excess frozen blastocyst which are left overs from in vitro fertalization. Thousands are thrown in the trash weekly. Why not put them to use in the developement of medical treatments which can save lives. The first clinical use of them for paralysis has been approve. Induced adult stem cells have been hyped but so far are not a substitute for blastocytic stem cells.

I was encouraged that Obama didn't appear to blame all the African problems on George Bush or the U.S.

Of course he did say he would help Africa with more feeling than George Bush, but hey, progress is progress.

This has to be the most mealy-mouthed, blame-dependent excuse maker I've ever seen in the White House.
