'...Sessions was U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. The year before his nomination to federal court, he had unsuccessfully prosecuted three civil rights workers--including Albert Turner, a former aide to Martin Luther King Jr.--on a tenuous case of voter fraud. The three had been working in the "Black Belt" counties of Alabama, which, after years of voting white, had begun to swing toward black candidates as voter registration drives brought in more black voters. Sessions's focus on these counties to the exclusion of others caused an uproar among civil rights leaders, especially after hours of interrogating black absentee voters produced only 14 allegedly tampered ballots out of more than 1.7 million cast in the state in the 1984 election. The activists, known as the Marion Three, were acquitted in four hours and became a cause c?l?bre. Civil rights groups charged that Sessions had been looking for voter fraud in the black community and overlooking the same violations among whites, at least partly to help reelect his friend Senator Denton.

On its own, the case might not have been enough to stain Sessions with the taint of racism, but there was more. Senate Democrats tracked down a career Justice Department employee named J. Gerald Hebert, who testified, albeit reluctantly, that in a conversation between the two men Sessions had labeled the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) "un-American" and "Communist-inspired." Hebert said Sessions had claimed these groups "forced civil rights down the throats of people." In his confirmation hearings, Sessions sealed his own fate by saying such groups could be construed as "un-American" when "they involve themselves in promoting un-American positions" in foreign policy. Hebert testified that the young lawyer tended to "pop off" on such topics regularly, noting that Sessions had called a white civil rights lawyer a "disgrace to his race" for litigating voting rights cases. Sessions acknowledged making many of the statements attributed to him but claimed that most of the time he had been joking, saying he was sometimes "loose with [his] tongue." He further admitted to calling the Voting Rights Act of 1965 a "piece of intrusive legislation," a phrase he stood behind even in his confirmation hearings.

Sounds like some fool from Code Stink has made himself an idiot to the nation as he whines about the unborn. Obviously all the repugnant ones care about is abortion and all they want is another deadbeat conservative activist justive who will legislate from the bench to overturn Roe vs. Wade, the law of teh land.

The repugnant ones sound so much like spoiled brats whining about Sotomayor's racism when they are the biggest racists around.

I saw a funny political cartoon this morning showing a miniature elerphant coming into a bar and a Donkey saying he thinks he seeing minature elephants and the other quips that that's the real size of the evil elephant party. It's so nice to see the repugnant ones being cast as the laughingstock of politics.

Can't wait for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to come off a week off as they get to keep the sordid stories of Ensign Sanford and Palin in the forefront. I am so looking forward to them really mocking Quitter Palin tonight.

Hey President Obama, yes slavery was a great stain on our nation. And yes, it should be taught in schools. And yes, the oppression going on in Sudan and other places is tragic. But so is the racist policy of abortion on demand which has devestated the black community more than any other. Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger, was a racist eugenicist who wanted to control the black population. And today 35% of abortions are black despite them only representing 15% of the total population. And you defend these policies no matter what? If you want to be a true champion of freedom, especially for blacks, get some courage and oppose the horrible and tragic laws that allow abortion on demand (for any and every reason)!!!!

In Early 1970 large companies such as A.H. Robbins the maker of the DALKON Shield used “third world countries”…being Africa to test market their defective product, the DALKON SHIELD as birth control.

Along with those countries…hundreds of thousands of young black females that were considered low income recipients received the defective product that caused masses to become sterile.

A.H. Robbins was sued by masses in a class action lawsuit. You have the nerve to champion the black community when you actually know nothing. The black woman has always been used as the guinea pig for experiences just as the men were. We are no longer in the past, we are in the future, we have been educated and are continuing to be so. Abortion rights should be choice. The population is no longer being divided by races.

There will be no more division…what race that you consider as being “African American” when it is a flower garden of all colors...what do “you” call the black population?

Although this man shouldn't have interrupted the hearing, he does pose a great question, "what about the unborn?" Just like it would've been appropriate to ask a potential court justice back in the 1860's "what about the slave and his/her rights?". Today abortion is the slavery issue of our day. 50 million dead children (18 million of which are black) since 1973. Indeed both Ms Sotomayor and the nation need to answer well "what about the unborn children?".

Sotomayor will have her faults like any other human being. The abortion issue isn't going to be settled in that hearing. Each side in that debate is looking for the edge to tip the scales in their favor.

Neither is going to get their wish. Sotomayor's record, when fully examined, does not favor minorities and is really quite good compared to others who have been nominated for Justice of the Supreme Court. People who know her and what she is all about praise her. She WILL be confirmed.
