Obama’s health care proposal is, in effect, the repeal of the Medicare program as we know it. The elderly will go from being the group with the most access to free medical care to the one with the least access. Indeed, the principal impact of the Obama health care program will be to reduce sharply the medical services the elderly can use. No longer will their every medical need be met, their every medication prescribed, their every need to improve their quality of life answered.

It is so ironic that the elderly - who were so vigilant when Bush proposed to change Social Security - are so relaxed about the Obama health care proposals. Bush’s Social Security plan, which did not cut their benefits at all, aroused the strongest opposition among the elderly. But Obama’s plan, which will totally gut Medicare and replace it with government-managed care and rationing, has elicited little more than a yawn from most senior citizens.

It’s time for the elderly to wake up before it is too late!

In our new book, Catastrophe, we explain - in detail and in depth - the consequences the elderly of Canada are feeling from just this kind of program. Limited colonoscopies have led to a 25% higher rate of colon cancer and a ban on the use of the two best chemotherapies are part of the reason why 42% of Canadians with colon cancer die while 31% of Americans, who have access to these two medications, survive the disease.

Overall, the death rate from cancer in Canada is 16% higher than in the United States and the heart disease mortality rate is 6% above ours’.

Under Obama’s program, there will be a government health insurance company that gets huge subsidies of tax money. It will compete with private insurance plans. But the subsidies will let it undercut the private plans and drive them out of business, leaving only the government plan - a single payer - in effect.

Today, 800,000 doctors struggle to treat adequately the 250 million Americans who have insurance. Obama will add 50 million more to their caseload with no expansion in the number of doctors or nurses. Indeed, his plan will likely reduce their number by lowering reimbursement rates and imposing bureaucrats above them who will force medical decisions down their throats. Fewer doctors will have to treat more patients. The inevitable result will be rationing.

And it is the elderly who rationing will most effect. Who should get a knee replacement a 40 year old or a 70 year old? Who should get a new hip, a young person or an old person? Who should have priority in the operating room a seventy year old diabetic who needs bypass surgery or a younger person? Obviously, it is the elderly who will get short shrift under his proposal.

But the interest groups that usually speak up for the elderly, particularly AARP, are in Obama’s pocket, hoping to profit from his program by becoming one of its vendors. Just as they backed Bush’s prescription drug plan because they anticipating profiting from it, so they are now helping Obama gut the medical care of their constituents.

It is high time that the elderly of America realized what the stakes are in this vital fight to preserve Medicare as we know it and keep medical care open, accessible, and free to those over 65. It is truly a battle for their very lives.

As for Surgeon General, I will need more information about her to make any real comment. So far, however she looks like a good choice. That could be confirmed or changed based on what I learn of her later on.

Our health care system is broken. The longer we take to fix it the worse it is going to be. Had we done so back in the 90s we'd have less cost and it would be working by now. Instead we see the mess getting worse and worse. Don't waste time, Congress, pass the darn bill and send it to the President for signature. You can tweak it later if needed.

I'm am not in favor of a plan that mandates everyone just buy insurance. That is not reform, that just spreads out the cost.

We need a non-profit option that does not choose if a person lives or dies based on share price. Just making everyone buy insurance will not help that we pay more than any industrialized country in the world per person, while getting less and less.

Having everyone buy insurance will do nothing but pad the insurance companies bottom line, and keep prescription drug prices high.

We need single payer, or we need a public option to keep competition and honesty in the health insurance industry.

For all the advocates of the Public option...where do you find the legal authority (as derived from the role of legislators and the executive as defined in the constitution) to procede with a large public program like this? For those who say health care is a right (what you mean, however is entitlement) that should be accomodated by the government for the public where is this in our founding documents? For all the harping over the consitutional criminallity of the Bush Admin. (and I agree with most of it, mind you) why are you not screaming about the unconstituional nature of the federal health option or even cap and trade for that matter?

Health care needs reform. That is certain. The problem is that this "fix" isn't what we need. In an already weak economy this will add to our problems. If the administration is really serious about improving healthcare and reducing cost, then enact real torte reform. It will reduce doctor's fees, prescription drug costs, hospital fees and every facet of healthcare without increasing taxes for anyone. Right now we have doctors who are getting out of medicine because they cant afford torte insurance. That alone should tell objective people how bad it is. It will also be a cost savings to every business thus helping all areas of our economy. Bring us in line with the EU who doesn't treat torte as a form of lottery. If nothing else it would rid us of all the ridiculous lawyer ads in the media. I dont hold any hope for this because our president is a lawyer as many on both sides of the aisle in Congress. When they decide to take us torte reform, only then will I believe they have dropped politics and done what is best for the nation.

All of these writers who are "putting down" a Public Option, I'd like to see what they will do when all of the 40 million Americans who do not have healthcare gets it. I'd like to see how they feel when their private care insurance (that they can keep if they want)premimus keep going up (and their wages do not) and if they have a catastrophic illness & need an operation and the Industry says they will not cover it, or when their prescription drugs keep going up, how they will feel. It is truly amzing how some Americans vote against their best interests and let these health care industries walk all over them! They are laughing all the way to the bank! Just last week there was an article about how much the industry overcharged their subscribers. So you narrow-minded people keep what you got and keep on paying through the nose! (By the way I have government health care with an Insurance company and do not qualify for the Public OPTION), but I feel EVERY American should have health care as a right like most countries in the western world do. We have the most expensive health care and are way down on the list of countries for being the healthiest!

I cannot imagine why anyone would be against HCR. We pay more for health coverage in the US than any other western nation, and get less. BUT, the insurance companies keep getting richer. Why do you want to make the rich richer while Americans go without insurance? You obviously have never had to face medical bills and no coverage. And the lies about bring us closer to socialism are amazing. We don't want government beauracrats telling our doctors what to do? Insurance bean counters already do. I am not sure Healthcare, although I know a whole family in S.W. FL -- AGES 29, 26, 2, and 7 weeks respectively without Healthcare - is going to get out this Summer. Back to the West Coast of FL, only the husband works and because he makes $16.00 an hour in a 30 to 40 hour workweek, they qualify for nothing. I find that stunning in a country this wealthy.

Well in all honesty I think if we were to reverse course and have a finite amount of currency in the system (like the founders intended) we would have to force a balanced budget.

My support for the amendment runs in concert with my opinion that the Fed should be abolished, and sound money should be reinstated. The Market and the Government are two seperate bodies. The more we try to marry them the more complex our problems become.

So I understand that simplistic solutions can make things worse, but I also think a great many of our problems as a nation could be simplified without the Market, and in turn the Banking industries, being subject to Fed regulations.

We live in a nation where the GOP enacts corporatism with their public office through corp. welfare (in the name of the free market), and the Dems want to regulate the begesus out of the banking industry because they can't imagine trusting "Adam Smith's Invivisble Hand" actually working.

Hamilton said it best. "...I never expect to see a perfect work from a perfect man..."

This rings true with every government program. At least when the people (as opposed to government) are in charge they have options.
