Yesterday, both the Giuliani and McCain campaigns announced they wouldn’t be participating in the Ames straw poll. The Des Moines Register: "No candidate in the straw poll's nearly 30 year history has bypassed the event and won the caucuses." I have nothing whatesoever against Iowans, but this whole presidential campaign has already started WAY too early and the last thing we need are more "events" to accelerate that process further, especially when such events have little real impact on what ultimately happens. No disrespect to Iowa, but the straw poll should be put away along with any similar events that happen so far in advance of the election.

Ames straw poll

Don't forget Robert, some of the democrats don't feel he corn people are as important either. There is not Democratic Straw Poll. It is a GOP event to raise $$ in August. The CAUCUS is in January, and everyone is still going to work to win that. Romney was going to do very well in the straw poll. Rudy has rarely visted the state, McCain can't get more than 20% and immigration is killing him now. If Thompson joins the August event, it will still be very huge....in Iowa the race is between Mitt and the "real conservative" who the GOP has not found yet, but hopes will be Fred. McCain is done here and nationally. Rudy will fight to win the nom in the big Eastern states, and Mitt will fight Fred and the 3rd tiers for the conservative base. The real question is will Mitt have a keg at the August event or not??

Ames straw poll

remember corn people of Iowa, all that money you guys are going to make this year to make all those millions of gallons of ethanol. I wonder how their grassroots operations people feel after essentially giving up on Iowa? It appears the MSM is falling for the "strategic" explanation of dismissing the straw poll as irrelevant, when the real explanation is they're afraid of taking Romney on in Iowa. If they're this scared of Romney...watch out terrorists!

Ames straw poll

Seems to me the front runners are ducking out because they don't want a repeat of Utah, sure Utah is Mormon country, but Ron Paul placed second. Maybe these two guys are more in sych with everyday americans than the news media is...Go Ron Paul - Live Free or Die

Ames straw poll

Ron Paul Will Win! He wins them all, but it is funny how his name is not mentioned even at 1% here?
