I am surprised that Romney has taken the lead in both NH and Iowa. It is patently obvious that he is a political opportunist. His positions shift depending on the mood of the country and the office he seeks. When he runs for governor of Massachusetts, he supports gay rights, is pro-choice, and embraces immigration reform. Now that he's running for the Republican nomination for President, he's against gay rights, is pro-life, and wants existing immigration laws enforced rather than embracing comprehensive immigration reform. Republicans used to brand someone like that a flip flopper. They would be unrelenting in their attacks, denouncing the man a hypocrite and political opportunist. Now they endorse him as a front runner. Strange, very strange.

I work in health care lending for a large regional bank. I see the financial statements of insurance companies and health care providers on a daily basis, and I see their expenses rising, especially bad debt expense, which would be virtually eliminated with the introduction of universal health care. I also see investments from insurance companies rising, meaning that even though many/most are non-profit health insurance providers, they have a huge cash surplus at the end of the day, which never seems to translate to lower health care costs for average Americans. Also, bad debt expense caused by the inability of uninsured individuals to pay their medical bills is one of the primary reasons we're seeing such a rise in health care costs. If we just cover everyone, it COULD end up saving all of us money in the long run (reducing bad debt expense on the income statement), if done properly and with private investment (not a single-payer method). So Go Hillary.

So new churches sprang up based upon individual men's interpretations of the Bible. Mormons are not an offshoot of the Catholic Church. They believe that when the doctrines of the church were no longer followed after the death of the apostles and church leaders, that the authority and power of God was taken from the earth. Mormons believe that that authourity has now been restored back to the earth and Christ's church is again led by prophets and revelation. All this leads to Mitt Romney and what he really believes. He believes that the rights of all should be protected under the Constitution. Even those he disagrees with. He never was pro-Gay ever. As a Christian, he is anti-abortion. But as Governer of a State which was pro-gay rights and pro-choice, he was going to follow the law. State's rights have always been at the heart of the Constitution. A stronger Federal Government came under Roosevelt and the New Deal. The man is a Christian, a conservative, but respects the rights of the law.

I am still researching the candidates stands so that I can make an informed decision based off their political ideas. If you must look into religion, think about this. To David Brown: Who is Ron Paul? Hah. I guess you stick to mainstream sources (Fox, CNN, NBC, ABC) for all your news, people with lots of money and lots of control. That tells us all we need to know about you and your closed-minded attitude. Ron Paul resonates in the hearts of millions because he doesn't cow to the corporate oil grabbers. He is truly a Thomas Jefforson of our time. You can continue to lap up to the Romney's and Clinton's of the world, and you certainly won't be alone. Things are changing though. People want truth and integrity, not sound bites and face lifts and fake lies and BS and flip flopping. Many know that, generally speaking, the “mainstream” media unfairly props up candidates and paints others out in a bad light, and they are extremely clever in the way they do this. I personally do not believe there is a sweeping “left wing” or “right wing” bias in the media, I think there is a bias to ensure that a high percentage of all likely voters are conditioned to think ahead of time that the only acceptable candidates on either side of the aisle are those who will act in step with the corporate interests that dominate political agendas. In other words, yes, surely Fox News is right wing biased, just like there is a genuine desire by Republicans to promote their agendas over Democrats and vice versa. But those are smaller sub-plots that operate within a larger arena / greater picture, if you will, ensuring that that pre-selected “front runners” in both parties are the only ones with any chance. These candidates are not loyal to true republicans or conservatives in their constituency, nor true democrats or liberals/progressives in their constituency. And if one researches the corporate-government collusion that exists with an open mind, I think this point will be self evident. Just look at the presidencies of both Clinton and Bush in this light, and this common thread is plain to see. Their actions/operations have had nothing to do with respecting and upholding the Constitution (as Bush’s “that’s just a god-d**** piece of paper!” off-hand comment clearly proved), with a few minor exceptions. My sincere belief is that we as citizens, tax payers and honest people desiring freedom and prosperity will get more of the same if this pattern continues. And my belief is that all the pre-selected “front-runners”, to include Romney, McCain, Giuliani, Hillary, etc represent a continuance of this pattern. I am personally not sure about John Edwards or Barack Obama, only because I know little about them. Obama’s candidacy seems very strange, as he is approximately a 2 year old politician. How can anyone judge his true desires and intentions? He is similar to Romney in my opinion, because they both have the slick look and feel “calm cool casual” thing down pat. I have to question Edwards, as he stood beside Kerry supporting what I consider to be an illegal war. Classic flip flop (again, Kerry-Edwards 2004 was a perfect example of the “keeping in line with corporate interests” comments above). The Republican Party cannot stand Ron Paul. This alone makes him attractive in my opinion. I have heard they attempted to gerrymander his district last year in order to get him out of there (he still cruised with over 60% of the vote). He speaks the truth about what is really going on, and that is NOT OK with the corporate interests who influence the media. Hence the marginalizing of Paul. I was shocked to see the last debate where he spoke for a total of less than 7 minutes, and the Rudy McRomney trio each averaged over 17 minutes. That is wrong, period. And of course that goes for all those candidates, I just mention it about Paul because I like him, but the others on the stage got ripped off too. Fox, CNN and MsNBC were all strangely silent about Paul’s surprising online poll results after each of the debates. People will argue the polls aren’t scientific, but neither are Gallup’s, and neither is the one on this page. Polls like the above Romney Hillary poll only apply to people who answer a land line phone. We all know that many in general don’t even use land line phones anymore, and those of us who do, a lot of us don’t answer it if we do not recognize the incoming number, right? Anyway, in the case of all 3 of those networks, what a joke to try and marginalize your own polls when the results scare you. Watching Sean Hannity and the others on Faux squirm and try and explain away the fact that Paul led the poll (and I think probably won it, and they changed the result to Romney) for much of the night, was priceless. The one question to ask yourself is this: If those Polls showed overwhelming support for Mitt Romney, would they have marginalized the polls, accused the Romney’s supporters of “spamming” the poll and declare it inaccurate, or would they have put up a headline the next day saying “Romney won debate, according to our online poll”, and put an asterisk next to that headline, explaining the margin of error, etc, of the poll at the bottom of the page in tiny letters? MSNBC has run 3 polls, one after each GOP debate, and in some cases, there are over 60,000 responders to their questions. All 3 polls showed Ron Paul being the favorite amongst the viewers. Not only is this not mentioned anywhere on their site, they continue to strongly marginalize him in their “2008 Republican Contenders” section, placing him 12 out of 12, and admonishing Paul’s supporters to please stop emailing them. Does that sound a little like Pravda from 1962, or what? Why are people afraid to acknowledge him? Kind of strange, huh? Simply put, I am sure the polls are not 100% accurate, but again, no polls are, and in the case of these polls, even if you allow for a 15% margin of error, you have to conclude that, Paul at the very least has just as strong of a following as McCain, Giuliani or Romney, and this in and of itself is a major news story that should be talked about. My personal belief is that if all citizens were equally aware of all candidates, and each candidate was treated equally/given equal exposure in the media, that many many people would like what they see with Ron Paul. I ask all here with an open mind to please consider Dr. Paul. I totally support your right to voice a different opinion, and you may be someone who thinks he’d be a terrible president – I honor and respect your views as an individual and independent minded American, even if we vociferously disagree on such things. Mitt has a very sucessful business man who has a loving wife and some children who were raised right and he turned the Salt Lake Olympics into a money maker and is big on family values. Hillary was a first lady, who made a ton of money on cattle futures, is married to a man who gets sex in the oval office, was impeached once, and works for a company that steals money from Alzheimers Patients. She has a medical plan that she borrowed from Fidel Castro, wants to make everyone brain dead and let the goverment run your lives. Hilary chose a state that needed a senator and did a fine job convinving New Yorker's she's the real deal. She would make a good 1st female American President. What I liked about Canada's health care is the prenatal care every mother gets, the medical care every child gets, and the fact that I could take an injured worker into any hospital without concern about his medical coverage. The drug companies seem to be the main beneficiaries of the lack of a medical care plan in this country. I no longer consider my self a Repulbican, but a Libertarian. I don't care for legislating morals, and I do not like what the president has done in terms of increasing spending, bypassing laws and controls on the processes that protect American's rights, and I don't care for his approach to immigrant amnesty. The reasoning behind telling 12 million plus lawbreakers that we are going to forgive them and let them stay is beyond me. Why not legalize drug usage, and any other crime done in mass. I suppose at this point I am supporting Giuliani. He is a moderate Republican at least on the moral legislation issues which matches my positions closer than the other candidates. Clinton doesn't stand a chance, last election Howard Dean was the clear front runner and we ended up with a Bush clone for a candidate. We have 20 years of Bush's and Clinton's. Time for a change, and Hillary is business as usual. The Clinton's kept the US in military engagements the whole time he was president too, just under the veil of the UN.

My Dad had a 6 bypass surgery in 2002. He was 63 years old. If we had lived in a society with socialized medicine he would have been sent home and told to get his affairs in order. This is because there is only so much money to go around in that type of society. Canada and UK tax their people 65% of their income to provide for all of the government programs. Yet there is not enough to care for the elderly. We have seen in world history that capitalism is one force that truly motivates and promotes invention, creativity and excellence. Another problem with socialized medicine is that in spite of all of the efforts of government the rich will still be taken care of in spite of their age. Yes there needs to be some solutions but universal healthcare as proposed by Hillary isn’t it. Her plan included legal penalties and jail time for doctors who saw patients privately. That means that you will never see the same doctor twice unless you are really lucky or you only have one in your town. The drawback here isn’t just an emotional tie you may have with your doctor but the quality of care is much better when your doctor knows you and all about your history without having to sit down and read your file for a half hour, which in a socialized system s/he won’t have time to do. Medical breakthroughs would slowdown and cease, if you doubt that then name the last 3 new medicines to come out of Canada or 3 from UK, I think you get the idea. Mitt Romney is well known for what he did in civilian life, turn companies that are failing or bleeding finances around and make them solvent again. I say religious convictions aside let’s give him a chance to turn this country around. What about his experience on the international front? He did work with Olympic leaders from around the world to make the 2002 Olympics successful. My last thought is this; I have known many Mormons and they are honest hard working and caring people. Whether they have the same exact religious beliefs as you really doesn’t matter if they have the core values that you have. The rest is merely a matter for discussion not a matter to judge someone over.

Ron Paul is the only one talking about making this a better country, bringing it back to the country it was founded to be - FREE. Every other candidtae only wants to spend YOUR money. The Banksteres and Big government are sucking the life out of this country and the money out of your paycheck. Clinton is "Bush-lite". It's as plain as day and I can't believe so many are still sleeping. Wake Up America!

If Ron Paul can get the Republican nomination he will be president. He would pull a huge number of voters from the democratic party because so many people see right through hillary and obama. Many Americans are sick to death of candidates who talk out both sides of their mouths, flip flop on issues based on the audience, promise change but never act, and ultimately obey big money and look out for themselves.
