Back in the 60’s the Federal Government came into the public schools and brainwashed us as little children with the message that the children we were about to have were unwanted because the population was rising so fast. They launched a program called, Zero Population Growth”. . They pushed Family Planning and birth control pills. I think you and I now both know that you only have to trick people for their few child bearing years and there is no going back.

Many of us never had a say in the future of our unborn.

I am the result of two living cells. One from each of my parents. They are the result of two living cells, one from each of their parents. I wasn't just born. I am a continuation of life. I am a living thing that reaches back into time perhaps 400 million years and the result of billions of joining of pairs of cells. It is possible that if you were to follow my cells back to my parent’s cells and beyond that my family tree touches every living thing here on earth. That is if we limit ourselves to believing life was created here on earth. If it rained down from the immensity of the universe it could reach back into that immensity of time and space, and who knows what relationships and who knows what species.

At least until I came up against the Federal Government and their plan to control the population.

I have seen the Federal Government do little else to control the population.

The open border, United States laws only apply to some, is a serious slap in the face. No, not a slap in the face, it reaches well beyond that. Maybe back to the beginning of time and stretch to the bounds of the universe.

Since the immigration laws have been on the books and collecting dust for several decades, at least since the early seventies, you have to conclude that this cheap, illegal labor is profitable for big business. Not that they pass much of it along to consumers. I believe you could at least partially solve the problem or alleviate it by moving some crops and businesses to Mexico where these jobs would be available to the workers without them having to hike through desert-like conditions and scale a fence, not to mention deal with border guards and possible confinement, and if they make it through just fine, in many cases they are subjected to conditions that are at least as bad as those described in Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath", which depicts what happened here during the great depression. Central America has lots of arable land to make this happen. In addition to this, families are split up for years or for life. Why can't we work with the Mexican government and other governments who have an interest in this situation? It would cost no more than putting up a long fence and providing an army of border guards, in addition to the schooling and medical expenses these people cost the US taxpayer. This would not only prevent much illegal immigration, but provide incentive for some of the twelve million already here to return to their homeland. If this isn't being considered, it is probably because it is not as profitable for the corporations and plantations that get to use these people in ways similar to our days of slavery.

Carrie, I did not intend to single out Hillary. I have been noticing for a few months that Dem candidates have been emphasizing their religion more so than I've noticed in other presidential campaigns. I believe Kerry would not have mentioned religion at all last time if it hadn't been for that woman in the audience that I mentioned above. I think this is because they noticed how Bush played the religious card last time and benefited by receiving the evangelical vote, which about equals the Hispanic vote. However, if it is partially or wholly my cavalier attitude about religion that you find objectionable, I won't apologize for that, since the religious community has for ages put it's trip on all and sundry to worship the idol they created out of their imagination, and have enforced it via penalties of imprisonment and death, including burning at the stake. But I will leave it at that since you haven't stated that is part of the reason you object to what I wrote. As for Hillary, I would vote for her in preference to any Repub, and I am not concerned whether her protestations of religiosity are or are not motivated by a demagogic bent. I believe the Dems should fight fire with fire on that subject, and I don't consider that cynical.

Similar to Jennifer H., I will not vote for Senator Clinton either. The reasons? First, she hasn't been honest with America about her initial vote on the Iraq War.

Second, she's disingenuous; her speeches illustrate that she wants to be 'all things to all people' and she CAN'T.

Third, the ethics of she and her husband are very questionable; examples include Whitewater, their abuses of Executive priviledge while serving in the White House, various sexual scandals, and until just recently, the joint Clinton Blind Trust and its questionable investments.

Fourth, she's playing the 'religion' card to serve her political purposes. Track her life and the realization becomes clear that she uses religion to serve her agenda rather than being positively transformed by it influence.

America needs honest leadership from a person who's willing to admit his/her mistakes rather than someone who 'passes the buck', is arrogant, disingenuous, and has shady ethics.

America, it's time to be led by someone whose greatest strength is in his/her public acknowledgment of personal weaknesses and someone who's passionate about SERVING Americans (Clinton's into the power; she self-serving).

I look at the immigration problem as a corporate type problem.
When America was young it was like a new company just starting out. It had a huge factory and needed lots of people to work in it. So, we asked for "Your tired, your poor, etc." to staff the country and get it running.
Now, America is a major worldwide company, with tons of workers and it doesn't need anymore.
The U.S.A. ain't hiring ! No Vacancy !
Leave your resume, we'll call you if we get an opening.
The last thing America needs is more unskilled labor ! Especially unskilled, non-english speaking workers who leave Mexico because it sucks............then want to bring all their mexican traditions / music / language / etc. with them !
I say America might need the ocasional highly skilled person who wishes to become an American citizen, but we do not need 12 million mexicans ! America already has enough people who can't speak english, who like to live with 20 family members to an apartment, who like to steal everything that is not welded to the floor and want the government to give them free money and support so they can have 5 more kids !

Good idea to bring the Mexican government into the mix on illegal immigration - I mean, what the hell do they care anyway? It just depletes their population and good riddance - somehow the illegals need to have a stake in staying where they are. Mexico is top heavy with a few rich and many, many poor....there is barely a middle class as such. Sure immigrants are coming from elsewhere in Central and South America, but if you believe what you read they take the lives in their own hands trying to get through Mexico. Mexico is corrupt beyond belief and needs a political reality check....I don't think Bushco is the crowd to do it however. We apparently assume the problem is all ours when in fact the ultimate problem rests with Mexico, pure and simple.
We need to get very very tough with the Mexican government as regards enforcement of illegal encroachment across border areas. The apparent assumption is that since we have the money and are the target area as a landing site, Mexico has no responsibility. I say bullshit to that thinking!
Bush has cozied up to the Mexican government since he's been in office (don't get started on NAFTA)...really, this has got to change. The 'amnesty' bill is coming back as we all know and congress wants to be 'compassionate'....or in other words, they recognize the economics and the potential future votes at at stake. But when citizens lose their jobs because illegals work far cheaper (I have friends) folks have to speak out.
So what's the solution??

Racism comes in when the debate is only about the hispanics crossing the border and has nothing to do with the millions of people that come and overstay their student or tourist visas, the majority of these specific people being non-hispanics... why is that never talked about? They hone in only on the Hispanics but not on all of the other races that have remained in the country with expired work or student's visas. Their true color shows.

Ms. Estrada: In case you haven't noticed, the border that joins our soil on the south side side connects the US to Hispanic nations. We have hundreds of illegal aliens crossing THAT border daily - the MAJORITY of them are Hispanics (that would be because the majority of those south of the border would be Hispanic - duh). No one is singling out Hispanics - we are just as adamant about ANY illegal alien in America. Breaking our laws is the same regardless of where you were born or what language you speak. It is a little bit harder to sneak in here across the ocean than it is to stroll across the border. You are just grasping at any straw you can find to accuse patriotic American CITIZENS of being racist. It is pitiful that is the ONLY excuse you can come up with to try to justify lawbreakers. Give us some viable REASONS we should sit back and let people mock our laws, break them as if they don't even exist, march with our flag upside down waving Mexican flags, wearing shirts that say "f--- America". WE, America's CITIZENS, are being discriminated against - but you refuse to see that, don't you? It is ok for illegal aliens to ignore our laws while we suffer the consequences when we break laws in OUR country? Get real and find something worth listening to - the old racist song and dance doesn't fly here. We don't care WHAT race they are - we want ALL of them OUT if they are here illegally. I don't mean to start a battle, but as a patriotic, law-abiding, American CITIZEN myself it breaks my heart to turn the "melting pot" of the US into a racist nation. And that is what is happening. We are for one ignoring the fact that our ancestors came here as immigrants. The way that they "migrated" would be considered illegal according to our current legislation and we would be calling all of our ancestors illegal criminals, too, but we won't do that... will we? Go ahead, tighten the border, but check up on overstayed visas, too. Make it about the Canadian border, too, and crack down on illegal immigration as a whole. But give people a way to come here legally, and I bet they will. Forgive me if I offended you by saying that this debate is turning into a racist thing, I personally think that it is, and if you are offended by that comment, maybe it’s more your fault than mine. I think that we should take any steps to make our country a safe place, but there are people that NEED to work here in our country and we NEED them, what would we do without a lot of these people? Would you buy tomatoes for double price because we need to pay our citizens twice as much as the others are happily making? Do you want to try to fund the already dwindling social security fund without all of the tax dollars paid on paychecks of illegal immigrants who can’t file for tax returns or get any of the social security benefits that they spend years paying?? I am neither rich nor poor, highly educated nor ignorant.. I do however have a heart, and I realize that I have done NOTHING to earn my citizenship; I was simply the effect of people reproducing after migrating to the western world a long long time ago, when THANK GOD the immigration laws were not as they are today. Look into what it takes to be a permanent resident or a citizen and tell me who deserves it more. I guarantee that a lot of the illegal immigrants working here today would do it “the right way” if given the chance, it’s just that a lot of America wants to take that chance away.
