It would be cool if he announced on the 4th but either way this guy is only running because of how screwed up politicians are on both sides of the isle and in the race. He's the only candidate I've ever heard say he doesn't want the job but knows someone who gives a d*&m about the country (not themselves or the power money and recognition that comes with the job) should be President. The only other person I've heard say anything like that was Ronald Reagan (after he got elected he said he didn't want to leave his good life and home in sunny California) he wanted to stay there but he knew America needed him. Now more than ever we need someone like Reagan hopefully Fred can be the guy.

The following, in quotes, is from the daily Rasmussen poll as of today. "Thirty-five percent (35%) of Americans approve of the way that George W. Bush is performing his role as President. Sixty-four percent (64%) disapprove. Those figures include just 12% who Strongly Approve, matching the lowest level yet recorded. Forty-six percent (46%) Strongly Disapprove." My point is that Fred Thompson is going after the Bush supporters. This group is shrinking every week. The 12 percent of those who strongly approve are those who voted for Bush twice. That would include all voters whose IQs range from 20 to 75. I believe Thompson can count on these as well as A: People who voted for Bush once but wouldn't necessarily do it again, and B: People who TIVO ambulance chaser commercials and watch them over and over mainly for entertainment and educational value. I think if someone like Thompson got elected, whether fairly or by the Supreme Court, we could say goodbye to America as we know it.

Here's an IQ test for you: If Thompson (because of his views on abortion gun control etc) already has the 35% that approve of Bush then why is it you would think he still has to go after them? Answer: he doesn't all he has to do for them is reiterate his stance on those issues. Then tackle the other issues which will set him apart from all of the other players on both sides. But then he'd probably have to have an IQ over 75 wouldn't he? Jeff Owens - You must be new on this blog. We have a working class Republican problem. Most of the people on this blog are intelligent, probably with at least a bachelors degree. Then you have these people who voted for Bush twice and would do it again, AKA morons. A few of them are not obnoxuous, but the worst of them wait for someone to post something that rattles their cage, and they basically give you an insulting response. Thing is, I'm not on this blog to hear from strong Bush supporters. Anyone who still supports Bush after seeing the same thing we've seen, that everything he touches turns to crap, has nothing to offer, and I, along with others who have voiced an opinion, consider them pests. If I could respond to one of their insults by just saying "I'm not interested in your input", that's what I'd do, but even if you fix their wagon good, they're here the next day under a new pseudonym. One of them stalked me for about a month, waiting for me to post something so he could spout his poison. I am on this blog for the fun. You don't get paid. As soon as one of these jerks makes me mad enough that it takes the fun away, I'm out of here on a permanent type basis. I regard one of these nitwits like some fool who walks up to you in the parking lot and tells you he doesn't like your car, and gives a rundown of what he doesn't like, and then he continues by criticizing the way you walk and your haircut. He is invading your personal space. The parking lot is public, but each person has his space. So my poing is, these people violate your space and cannot take a polite hint to move on. Jeff Owens. First Read is not serious about enforcing it’s rules I read them and I feel that they’re one sided at least in my case I haven't been hear long enough to prove otherwise. I had a response yesterday to Jirby's acid, venom filled comments some of which you highlighted among other things "Swallow a gallon of sulfuric acid and call me in the morning. Low-life scum bag." and my response was never posted. Now my response wasn't nice but at no time did I ask him to commit suicide call for the bounty of democrats etc, etc. This guy obviously has some issues and an anger management problems as it seems do most libs when you don't agree with them. If Jirby's just posting here for fun I suggest he try a new hobby, if nothing else for his mental well being...The other thing I find interesting is that he seems to think there is one guy making posts under different names. This was actually not my first visit to this blog but it was one of my first posts I've made and it’s my right to have my own moniker. Jirby there are 350,000,000 million Americans what are the odds more than one of us think the same way. Just because you can’t comprehend this doesn't make you right BTW I’m a college student that works part time while maintaining a 4.0 I know that doesn’t fit into your demographic but then who cares it’s just your opinion so I don't think it really matters.

If I am posting for fun, that is my business, not yours. If First Read decides that doesn't fit into their agenda, then it's their business, still not yours. The reason I was so nasty with you was probably my fault. I didn't think you seriously wanted to discuss anything because your post was filled with sarcasm. I think you are a strong defender of Bush. That places you in the last Rasmussen poll with the 12% who still are hanging in there with Bush despite everything he has done to transfer the wealth of the poor and middle class to the super rich. If you are unaware of this and other stupid moves that makes him probably the worst president in the last hundred years, then your 4.0 average is not doing you very much good in the real world. Intelligence is as intelligence does. You strongly defend Bush. That places you squarely within that 12% I mentioned. That demographic is littered with the nation's moron community. You seem to be a wierd exception. You are not wealthy, huh? And you are not a moron, huh? And you strongly defend BushCo, huh? You don't fit into the picture well. The fact that you did alerted me to the strong possibility that you were "one of those pests". Most intelligent people on this blog know what I'm talking about. JIrby...a polite way? The first thing that comes to mind is to ignore them I would if it bothered me that much. Also, I did not once voice my support for Bush, I merely took exception to your IQ reference for those that voted for him becuase I voted for him in the second election. Personally I'm disappointed in Bush in how he's handling the immigration situation, and his over the top spending. To call him the worst President in the last one hundred years is a stretch. History will tell us if that's a correct assumption it already has with idiots like Carter maybe Bush will be lumped in the same category time will tell. My point is Thompson doesn't have to go after the 35% that support Bush his positions are clear to that group he's already got them. Fred hasn't flip flopped like Romney and he's always been pro life. The challenge for Thompson is to get everyone else. I’m not a fan of the Republican party but I’m not a Democrat. I am smart enough to know that not all reps and dems are bad (I think most are) I just don’t understand all of the hate. You said Bush has moved the wealth of the poor and middle class to the super rich. Now don’t take this the wrong way because I’m sincerely interested in your response, this is just a comparison question. It's about - you are asking me to tell you something in five minutes that took me twenty years to learn. I'll try to come up with some examples. A. A week or so after Bush took office, he gave the lions share of Clinton's half-trillion dollar surplus to the wealthy, saying this money belonged to the "people" so he was just giving them what was theirs Trouble is, I got $300. Paul Allen and his ilk got enough to buy a megayacht. A few weeks later, he appointed the daughter of Justice Rehnquist and Scalia's son to high government posts. Get it? Can you guess why, about time?
B. He revised the bankruptcy laws so that America's poor sods couldn't be helped by bankruptcy anymore, increasing the homeless rolls on Skid Row. Yet it was not against the law for corporations that were going under to declare bankruptcy, then use their employee's pensions to come out of bankruptcy. Poor employees. Their lives are ruined. Lucky corporations. C. Bush made it his mission to stop "frivolous lawsuits". A frivolous lawsuit being one pressed against a corporation by an individual. That's a way of saying the people's rights are frivolous compared to a corporation's. Since Bush has been in office, the AMA has been pressing to limit malpractice suits to $250,000. If a doctor operated on a patient and cut the wrong leg off, as is not uncommon, the patient is limited to a quarter million. He got the wrong leg cut off, so now he has no legs. What kind of job can a man with no legs get? 250,000 won't do it for a man with a family. And he more than likely won't get near that. A single man with no legs and a quarter mil would have to live on 12,000 annually to make that money last all his life. D. Over two years ago, Halliburton and other contractors in Iraq made off with about one billion. It made the news. It was given about thirty seconds of coverage one day and was never mentioned on the news again. That's because the media is owned by corporations, and their commercials are paid for by corporations. That means that all the TV stations get their paychecks from corporations, so they are not going to take corporations to task. There are exceptions, but they are few. BushCo hasn't mentioned the Halliburton heist. My advice to you, if you want to understand why Bush, who started a war based on lies and is paying for it by borrowing from China, why he is despised by "libs", I recommend you stick around this blog and go after everyone you disagree with in the same spirit you challenged me, and gradually you will either get it, or you will be teased and laughed at like the Repub morons on this blog, even though you are not one. You just think like one. I think you will confront the question of why, if you are so smart, haven't you been able to see Bush for what he is - a liar and a crook. Most of the people on this blog share that opinion, and those who don't are shunned. So go ahead. Talk to others on this blog and see how many disagree with what I have told you. About a quarter of them want him impeached.

JIrby. Thanks, for your reply...Okay let's see if I got this straight. A) I believe what you were referring to were the tax cuts. Bush changed the tax code to reflect the following: Replacing the current tax rates of 15, 28, 31, 36, and 39.6 percent with a simplified rate structure of 10, 15, 25, and 33 percent
Doubling the child tax credit to $1,000 per child and applying the credit to the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT);
Reducing the marriage penalty by reinstating the 10 percent deduction for two-earner couples;
Eliminating the death tax;
Expanding the charitable deduction to non-itemizers; and
Making the Research and Experimentation (R&D) tax credit permanent. I don't make enough to be at the 39% but I hope that someday I will and when that day comes I hope it's still at 33%. I'm working hard to get an education and I'd like to keep as much of my money as possible because I think the government has proved that they're incapable of managing our money. Also, Americans give more than any other country in the world combined. If I believe in a cause I will give I don't want someone telling me where my money must go. As far as the nepotism or getting a job based on your connections it happens all of the time in politics and the business world. Does that make it right no but it’s not unique to this President or any other American President CEO College football coach ect.
B)The revised bankruptcy affected my brother when his business collapsed however if it hadn't been for the revision who do you think would continue to foot that bill (answer we would the taxpayers) but since it affected our family member directly I understand either way he's back on his feet and successful now but I agree with you this one is tough for entrepreneurs. C)I'm not aware of people loosing limbs let alone the wrong limbs as a common practice in the US. Maybe it's the lack of amputees I see maybe it's a government cover up. My Godfather who is a practicing attorney told me that what this bill really does is limit the amount of money attorneys can make fro themselves and their clients on lawsuits, thereby reducing the stress frivolous law suites that bog down the legal system (I spilled hot McDonalds coffee on myself and I want 1 million dollars) and cost the American taxpayers more money. Now this is coming from an attorney not me. Finally D) I've researched the Halliburton topic extensively because I have a lot of liberal friends that swore by this, the fact is (and even many of my liberal friends agree) Halliburton was the only company capable of handling such a huge undertaking that's why they got the bid. Now that doesn’t make it right and there’s no way to prove who got paid what but my feeling is if there was wrong doing there are enough people who hate this President that I’m sure someone would have brought it to light. I’m sure everyone agrees with each other on this blog I’ve been looking at a lot of the posts and it’s all very one sided. But I counted 20 maybe 30 people blogging hardly a majority voice for the American people. Now don’t get me wrong I mentioned before that I have some real issues with Bush but I’ve never seen anything factual to back up that he’s funding the war by borrowing from China I’ve never seen anything that states wrong doing by the tax cuts. Either way I thank you for an intelligent debate and I appreciate the renewed sense of civility between us. I think this President is flawed I always have but the ’04 election was the first time I could vote and I picked the lesser of what I thought was two evils. I don’t blindly follow this President again I take issue with a lot of what’s going on but I need facts to call for impeachment not emotions. I say we agree to disagree on some issues doesn’t make me smarter than you or vice versa. I think we have an interesting year and a half left before the next election and I say may the best man win.

Okay, about time - you just brought up something I forgot to say. The woman who sued McDonalds. She represents the stupidity of the public who try to sue corporations. She is the poster gal for what the corporate power elite want the people to think about someone who would be lame-brained enough to sue one of our fine corporations. Remember what I said about the corporations having a big hand in what the media makes public? This crazy old gal is what they want us to think about when we think of whether it's right to sue a corporation. She got almost as much publicity as the Lewinski hug, yet Halliburton got thirty seconds one day. These people decide what we are allowed to know because they either own the media, control the content of what you are presented as news, or both. One other point. I don't have a link for you, but the Bush administration gets the trophy for presiding over the largest income gap in history between the haves and have nots. This didn't happen by accident. Henry Waxman (D, Calif) is the one working on the Halliburton heist. With a good wind at his back, he should come up with some good stuff in about fourteen reincarnations.

Someday.. that's what my father used to say. We were dirt poor, he drove truck over the road, rarely ever home. Then came the great truck strike (under Carter) deregulation of the industry which brought us wonders such as J.B. Hunt. Price hackers that drove alot of companies out of business. Nowadays, we have the wining college boys out driving the rigs, who have little or no consideration for other traffic. I grew up in a small rural burg in the middle of Iowa, no chance of summer jobs there. We were lucky to make it on what both my parents brought in. 5 kids wasn't very easy. We had an ancient color console tv that worked about as often as it didn't. Possibly on a weekend, I could borrow my mom's car to go out.
Now it is 25+ years later, I own my own home, drive a decent car, my wife drives a nice minivan and my son works for a local farm operation. He is sixteen making 9.00 an hour plus has two other part-time jobs. When school starts back up he will play varsity football and wrestling and have little time to work anymore. We will still be able to afford to support him and his younger brother through all that too. I have a great job working in an industry that people joke about and belittle. But, I have the best health insurance I could imagine, as good I think as the politicians get for themselves. I plan on retiring here. I have cell phones for the entire family, satellite tv, internet, and there are local college courses no that I could take if I wished to better my position in life. I would love to have some idiot lib come and tell me how things were better before we had all those republican presidents that forwarded life in this great country. Clinton helped out a bit I have to credit him with some of that, with the exception of the stock market drop that lost me half of my IRA and 401 savings. But, we are definitely in some ways closing inon that shining city on the hill that RR foresaw for us all. That was when the libs and cons could disagree and then sit down at the end of the day and discuss movies or football games or good food and wine. Where did those days go? How bout we try listening every once in a while and quit trying to be so damned selfish that we need to be sure that our view is the only one heard, regardless how stupid it makes us look. I see Obama, calm cool and collected (no I am not voting for him) next I see Hillary, yelling like she is at some college vietnam rally. Then I see Edwards blowing money on hair care and claiming that he is the 'poverty president'. I don't care much for Guiliani either, not sure why. I like what little I have seen of Thompson, but I have yet to know his stance on most of the issues either. I am starting to warm up to Romney a bit, but I yet have over a year for that decision to be made. I will see how well they stay composed, how many lies get caught and by whom. Maybe even a stupid stunt like the fake national guard records will come to the top. Time will tell as far as patience and durability. In a year from now, we will have only a few to choose from, and I refuse to let the liberal biased media do my thinking for me.
