As I said last week (and as far as I know I'm the first to declare this) Guiliani is done. Actually I think his doneness goes back to the debate when he jumped on Ron Paul regarding bin Laden's motivations. He won applause with the response, but in the days following, people started to realize he really doesn't know much about al Qaeda... and he's the national security candidate? This thing with Whitman is another blow. It cuts into Guiliani's single episode of performance on which he is basing his campaign. Yikes. Bad to be him today. But it was over before this, I believe.

Paul Miller, Woodbridge, VA / I believe corporate america has spent too much money on rudy for him to disappear, he may lag back for awhile but I would be shocked if he were not repub nominee, I think he has already been nominated, the powers that be just haven't let they're subjects know yet, a little thing like the actual voting process ain't going to change the outcome.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I used to think of Mayor Giulani during 9/11 as a paragon of competency when it came to handling a catastrophe and that as New Orleans was flooding from the levee breaches Nagin could have taken a leaf from Giulani. Now that I read how Giulani blocked Christie Whitman's effort to have all WTC workers wear respirators and that NY city officials didn't want them wearing HAZ-MAT suits because they didn't want it to look like the city was falling apart, I really don't think Giulani was much more competent than Nagin.

Ben, need to cut back on the Bourbon in the grape kool aid OK? Seems like every election we have people who come out with stories about whatever someone else did or didn't do, this election is no better then the others. Every disaster is going to have fingers pointed at them, no matter what they did well or didn't do well. Nagin though had ample warning to get the folks out of New Orleans but he didn't even try to do it, Rudy pretty much had 9-11 pretty much laid in his lap. Big, Big difference between Rudy and Ray.

Susan I think you're right. The right wing and neo-cons will try as they done so successfully in our state in 2000, and Ohio in 2004 to rig elections thru voter intimitations, removing legitimate minorities who lean Democrats, allowing Republican secretary of states to be campaign managers, and lets not forget the diabold voting machines without paper trail.

Paul Miller, if the repubs go to Thompson, then they are probably trying to relive the Reagan years with another "actor". However, as many people have stated, last Senator to be a Pres was JFK...I think that is one reason Romney has appeal as a former governor. I hope out of the two major parties and several possible independent campaigns, there will be at least one candidate who can get the country working together again.

I guess Ray nagin and I did miss the school bus. Difference is, I didn't leave people to die like Ray did. I was responding to Olivia's comment, the difference is a mile long and river deep between what Rudy did and what Ray did. nagin had time to save people, Rudy did not.

He had been warned over and over about using the WTC as a central point and about the communications problems but did nothing. He couldn't have prevented the actual crash, but his decisions were absolutely part of the problem in response and recovery.

Here we go again, Independent my friend. Even though we both know it's pointless, neither of us can resist responding to jerry. Your 3:17 post stated what was crying out to be said. Was Rudy mayor of NYC in 1993 when the WTC was attacked the first time? I am ingnorant in this regard because I try not to pay attention to NYC for any reason. As for jerry's comment about the huge difference between Mayor Guiliani and Mayor Nagin, the difference that's important to jerry, et al is that Rudy is a republican and Nagin is a democrat. This fits withing his belief system and reinforces his comfort zone.

Juan, unless you have some proof that the Florida vote was rigged in 2000, that will always be the liberals cry. I just think it was because people in Florida were too stupid to know how to punch a card. Ohio, there was no proof that the GOP did anything improper, in fact they stayed past the time allotted for voting, trying to get everybody to vote. Can't help it if people were just too stupid to wait till the last minute. texas has early voting, does Ohio?

I thought everyone knew by now it was neither the 'hanging chads' nor the Diebold voting machines that won it for Dip-Stick-Boy, but the successful use of the fear card (and a heapin' helpin' dose of slime by the Swift Boat Liars for BullS**t). Then again, with what I see in the news lately, God only knows what kind of crap was being pulled 'behind the sceenes' by the crooked GOP. Hey Jerry- was it the Demorcrats and Liberals that wanted to sell one of the shipping ports to Arabs a while back? And how about the job the Conservatives and Republicans are doing at our southern border? Sure makes ME want to trust homeland security!
