We are talking about New Orleans... a place where people spent millions of dollars a year to go on vacation. If they lacked funding prior to Katrina I think they had a break-down in a system far beyond just blaming the president. And just what about the New Orleans mayor?? If we are going to talk about race and social advantages their mayor was of the same race as the majority of those living in New Orleans? Billions was spent to help Katrina victims. Billions more needs spent but at who's expense? Why should we, the taxpayers, rebuild a city so far into a flood zone that this could happen again? Possibly a 'New Orlean' town needs developed out of the flood plane. Otherwise we might be left with billions of more dollars being ruined by another 'Katrina' type event in years to come.

I was very disappointed when (upon Biden’s remark on being tested, as part of his efforts in teaching prevention and testing of HIV to his urban black population) Obama felt the need to defend himself being tested as if it were something disgraceful. What a freaking wuss! There was no need for that, stand up and be a man. It was as if he were embarrassed by it. His fear is regrettable. Clinton’s response to that and other questions were equally as wussy. Be a man, as it were, and be the strong leader we need.

Ed Cleveland, no need to start a caucasian college fund, just send your money to Liberty College. When I was a senior in HS the guidance counselor gave me a list of scholarship funds I could apply for. There were thousands of scholarship funds with many earmarked for italians, jews, catholics, lutherans, asians, women, daughters of the american revolution, sons of the confederacy, native americans, etc. So why the bug up your ass about a negro college fund? Also your mention of Al Sharpton proves the point I so poorly made before. Al is a controversial, divisive and polarizing figure which is why the Republicans helped finance his previous run for president in order to provoke the ditto heads and distract people from the real issues. It is why the media constantly focuses on him, making sure to point him out at the debate and comment on him so ditto heads can then rant about him and tar the democrats and distract from the issues.

As far as the Biden exchange, I think it's being overanalzyed, as usual. I love Joe, but he should just never refer to Obama again in any way, shape or form. He has some sort of bad juju going on there. Every time he opens his mouth about the guy, always well-intentioned, it gets taken the wrong way. I did get a chuckle out of Obama's response about his wife, though, which went a long way toward relaxing things a bit. (The look he flashed Biden was unnecessary, however, and why on earth the cameras felt the need to cut to Sharpton I have no idea. Could Shaprton be any less relevant these days?)

Anyway, play it safe, Joe, please. Luckily for us Biden supporters, making well-intentioned misstatements seems to be in vogue for presidents these days, so logic would suggest that this little episode actually strengthened our bid for the White House... ;)

Amanda in South Carolina--Just curious--Would you be feeling the same way about other Americans' tax dollars being spent on South Carolina were a Category 5 hurricane to wipe out much of her coast and the devastation was so great she could not handle the recovery and rebuilding herself? After all, Hurricane Hugo hit back in '89 which shows that sort of thing could happen again.... Louisiana is a valuable state which produces oil, natural gas and her port of New Orleans is the gateway to the Midwest for many goods from other countries. I'd much rather see my tax dollars help rebuild New Orleans than be wasted overseas helping other countries build themselves up.
