As far as I'm concerned, the 38 year marriage & the presidential appearance aren't that important. What matters is competence, and that's where Romney is the very clear winner. None of the other candidates, Democrat or Republican, have solved problems as big as the ones Romney has taken on. The other candidates have been on committees, expressed their opinions, even done a little legislating now and then. But none of that compares to being the head dude, the CEO & president, the guy on whose desk the buck stops, like Romney has done for so many years and in so many difficult situations. This country is facing very complex problems that won't be solved through political skills alone (although those skills are important too). We've got to have a president who can give us bottom-line results, and Romney has done that over and over, tackling almost insolvable problems. I'd go with Thompson if I thought his skills were comparable, but so far I've seen no evidence of that.

I agree with Lori above. All he did was display his family a little - basic campaign stuff. The only way to see this as a shot is to put it into the context that some of his competitors have more visible family issues. But candidates have been trotting out their loving wives and kids for as long as I can remember.

My ideals are so low that I reject hate-based religious teachings, and use my own mind to determine what is good and bad.

Mitt appears to have a solid family, but it could be a show. I think he was in poor taste to insinuate that his ability to father children and not divorce his wife means he'd be better at Presidenting.

As an Atheist, election time is always a bit annoying. Every politician claims some religious affiliation, no matter how devout, and for some reason supersticions become an important issue. I don't consider religion when I vote my stock shares for board candidates, and I don't consider religion (or lack of it!) when I vote for politicians.

Although, it'd be nice to have an avowed atheist high up in government. I think I'll have to wait untill we get a female and/or black President first tho...

I'm a bit of a cynic and these kind of campaign advertisements, every year a politician parades his family and it don't impress me. That's just how some people are..and I came from a very stable environment. I think Romney has a great family, very vibrant, but not everyone will readily equate that with being a POTUS who has to represent a wide diversity of people. As I posted earlier Bush seems to be quite the family man and if you are judging Romney by the same standard you did Bush...it seems like that wouldn't be adequate measurement (esp if you are not satisfied with his performance). The kudos I will give to Romney over Bush is his track record of making solid management decisions.

Not even necessarily the American mainstream, but the American mainstream's ideal.

BUT, even if it was, isn't it great that Mitt Romney spent his life in the private sector and is not a lifelong politician? He doesn't want the money, and doesn't need the power. His motivations, to me, seem like they stem from an honest desire to help our nation.

And to CJ,
You're right in the sense that Family life definitely isn't the biggest factor in choosing a President. Romney's solid leadership and turnaround experience is way better. But at the same time, family values are certainly something that makes me want to vote for him even more. Who knows him better than his wife and kids? A person's private life is very telling about internal motivations and policy positions. If the family won't support his candidacy in public, then why should anyone else?

As I have stated before, I think Romney will win the nomination by process of elimination. And I think he is a fair choice and an improvement over Bush (who has lowered the bar IMO). The writer of this article is highly irresponsible to suggest that Romney's ad is just a jab at Rudy's failed personal life. It is an inductive argument at best, a premise that cannot be sustained in the face of logic.

If true, does it mean that if one goes to a job interview and honestly presents themself as a hard worker, that they're really just making a backhanded jab at the other applicants just because they happen to be slackers? I think not.

I'm not yet committed to any candidate or necessarily any party. Yet so far Romney has impressed me the most of anyone out there BY FAR. When one opens their mind and digs a little deeper than all the BS put out by his jealous rivals, his record as husband, father, executive in the real world, Olympic director, and governor is incredibly impressive. The man is a true leader, communicator, critical thinker, highly competent executive/crisis/financial manager, and keeper of his word.

Best of al he, like Reagan, agrees that more government is part of the problem, not the solution.

Americans could do a whole lot worse.

Today Monday the 9th of July 2007 at 9:19 am called Australian National Security on 61 2 62709401 and an answering machine was on and recorded message said: We are sorry can cannot take your call at the moment, please call back in 20 minutes.

The persons that I spoke to said that he was the butler and that Mrs. Walton was currently in Bangkok and the best way to contact her was to call this number 66 2 253 0123 room number 475.
So, I’ve called and spoke to Jay but during our ten minute conversation mostly regarding the terrorists that I know of them and where and who they are, she promised she will contact Mr. Bill Paterson who is the Australian Ambassador to Thailand and revert back to me within a week.
Well, I am still waiting for her call but nevertheless I should also say that I am aware now that I was not talking to Mrs Walton at the time, even though her voice sounded the same, she failed to remember her best friend’s name.

It is a sad commentary about the character of our society when a man with a good marriage and a happy family is denigrated for it. It is unfortunate that some people find this to be suspect. I know people with such marriages and happy families. It does happen. There are also good, honest politicians. They just don't make good press. I'm glad to see there are people who are willing to take a good look at a good man and realize he can lead us with dignity and strength.

I am truly surprised at the number of promoters of moral relativism or moral abolishment. Don't people see that the disintegration of the American family leads to increased welfare checks, higher crime, loss of liberty, epidemic disease (alcoholism, syphilis, HIV, gonnorea, HPV, etc.), unemployment, higher drug use and general unhappiness?

Of course if you get a divorce it doesn't mean your own family is doomed, but the increased rates of divorce hurt our country and our children's future.

Romney is doing well win NH and IA, but suffers from lack of name recognition across the country. He's just trying to tell his story. As for the accusation of him being self-righteous, you can't serious. I could lay the same claim against you the last time you interviewed for a job. Did you tell about your credential? Hm mm.

As a military officer, I support Mitt Romney as my next Commander-in-Chief. I want someone in office with integrity, leadership, practical sense for resolving problems, and strong moral character. Gov Romney excels in all those areas. I agree with his approach to strengthen the economy, defense, and the American family. While the first two are obvious, American family values do matter because we as a society have become decadent over time. In order to maintain our position as a Global Leader, America needs to have a society that other countries can look up to. If I were from Middle Eastern country, I could understand their reluctance to become a democratic society when they look at our public media and all they see is an erosion of moral values. Believe it or not, immorality does undermine our mission in the Middle East and in combating international terrorism.

Romney isn't running as a Mormon... The media is making it look that way! Hillary and the Obama are not runnig a Christians... but I do have to see the results of their past. Why the Mormon -slammers all over? It's a non issue. I'm shocked by the lady who's pastor slammed Romney in a sermon. Since when did religion become politics on Sunday. In my church's sermons we talk of the love of God and Gods love for all men. I used to think Hillary and Obamawere right on, I am really impressed by "show me the results" politics. I can't find one thing that impresses me about Hillary's work- lots of almost's. --Obama,-- I can't find anything he has actully had a hand in (except winning by default in Ill over Allan Keyes). However, I can't find any negtives on Romney (unless too good is a negative).
