Oh. And while FIRST READ is about it,they can explain to me what the funding for the study of vaginal diseases has to do with getting it from Defense appropriations monies,which are supposed to go to Iraq. Or Homeland Security port security monies, of which a boatload went to protect the all-important piers of Marthas Vinyard,Mass. Mebbe the jihadis are not big fans of Carly Simon. Who knows? Operation Cyclone was the code name for the United States CIA program to arm Islamic mujahideen during the Soviet war in Afghanistan, 1979-1989. The Program relied heavily on using the Pakistani Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) as an intermediary for funds distribution. Along with similar programs from Britain's MI6 and SAS, Saudi Arabia and other nations, the opponents to the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan collectively trained over 100,000 insurgents between 1978 and 1992. Somewhere between $3-$20 billion in US funds were funneled into the country to train and equip troops with weapons, including Stinger surface-to-air missiles.

The favored leader amongst the Afghan resistance fighters was Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. His tactics became increasingly violent and aimed towards civilian populations, including shelling Kabul with American-supplied weapons, causing 2,000 casualties. According to a Newsweek article, in the late 1980s, Pakistani President Benazir Bhutto, concerned of the growing strength of Islamist movement, told President George H. W. Bush, "You are creating a Frankenstein." Hekmatyar was said to be friendly with Osama bin Laden, founder of al-Qaeda, who was running a similar Arab logistical organization concurrent to Operation Cyclone, called Maktab al-Khadamat (MAK). The US asserts that all of its funds were used to supply native Afghan rebels, and denies that any of its funds were used to supply Osama bin Laden or foreign Arab mujahideen. History is written by the victor: now you know why our childred are educated stupid, compared to the worlds standard!We erase, or hype what we see as what it should be, and we have history! Example: Vietnam WAR? Did we change the fact that we never declared war, as it was a peace keeping action. So our children run blindly into a patriotic repeat. No Disrespect to the Veterans of that conflict what so ever! Is this something we are going to chose to omit from our history books in 5-10 years too? So our grandchildren repeat it over again? Or great great [if we as man survives that long]grandchildren? History should be an exact so we don't repeat mistakes, that's our first mistake too. Libby should stay in the books seeing he saw no jail time!

The Taliban didn't exist during the Afghan/Soviet set to, they emerged in the mid ninties and they came to power by attacking the very Afghani tribes that had beaten the Soviets.
Whatever weaponry the US may have giving anti-Soviet fighters was long ago worn out or used up, if you'll note none of the Taliban or al-Qu'ida use American weapons, all use Soviet surplus and Iranian weaponry.

I guess we should build a time machine and go back to whack Bin Laden before he became our enemy, might as well strangle Hitler in his crib while we are at it.

As for the Democrats, till they got their illusion of majority they used to hide in the basement having playtime tribunals and such like Star Trek fans, what a bunch of nerds.
The main reason they've consentrated on undermining the administration is that it diverts attention from the fact that they are worthless.
Also winning a war takes work while legislating defeat takes the stroke of a pen. They are too lazy to win, losing is their idea of an easy way out of responsibility.

The reason your Children are educated stupid is precisely because our educational system has chosen to all but eliminate US history from the curiculum in order to comply with the so-called World Standard. Other countries found that by concentrating on certain subjects , while downplaying or eliminating others, they could raise a nation of cyphers who did as they were told, good little robots.

US and World history are a mystery to young people of today, that's why trash like Howard Zinn's "People's History of the United States has become the bible of the leftwing.
Its also why I've had to explain to supposedly educated people that Ramsey Clarke is a loon, anyone who's read a newspaper would know that.

I don't mind an honest democrat, there are a few in my family. But geez the crop of losers out there making the most noise act like six year olds at their worst. It must be something in the water or fast foods, they can't all be potheads, though when you think on it maybe most of them are.
