As a veteran journalist... I know that if you have to put a question mark in your headline... you either don't know what you are talking about or you don't have the attachments necessary to back up what you are talking about.

What this article fails to mention is that 3.46 million is far better than some of the other GOP candidates did during their "testing the waters" phase...

Giuliani's first month... $258,660
McCain's first month... $1,130,351
Thompson's first month... 3,450,000

It's one thing to give just the basic numbers in a story... perspective/comparison is not a requirement... but if you are going to take it upon yourself to use that headline; "Fred Comes Up Short?"... then perhaps a little perspective is a good thing. If you are implying Fred has some up short... show us? Short compared to what?

Oh... that's why you put in the $5 million figure "talked about by Thompson supporters." Oh really? I never heard any Thompson supporter say they would raise $5 million. Again... if you are going to use this figure... show us! It's called attribution... it's called credibility.

Also... keep in mind Fred didn't even start his major fundraising push (dinners, speeches etc) until July. And he only spend 625 k in June... so not counting what he raised in July... he's nearly 3 million in the black...

Isn't it interesting that a leading Democratic candidate will be a tough guy and talk with no conditions to Bashar al-Assad, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, and Kim Jong Il.

But he's too afraid to talk with Bret Hume?

I guess Fox should ask if the Democrats need some preconditions met before they come on Fox. One precondition will certainly be "Ask us real easy questions like we get on CNN and MSNBC".
