I find it to be VERY interesting that Brownback is leaping all over Huckabee just days after Huckabee flat-out won the Warren County, Iowa, straw poll with 22% of the vote. Perhaps Brownback just wants a piece of the action? Huckabee has shown himself to be a good and honest man - he ought to be, he's been a pastor for his whole adult life. Brownback is just another slimy politician trying to use his religion to drive a wedge between people.

My take on this is that these two are going after the religious fanatic vote. Huckabee is saying that he is a bigger religious fanatic than Brownback. I personally side with Brownback since he impresses me as the type who would get behind stoning adultrous women in the street and calling for a prison sentence for women who have an abortion. He would have plenty of help in the Supreme Court. Who wouldn't think it would be a win for family values if gals were beheaded for premarital sex? The world would start looking ulp to us again. But either of these guys would get America headed in the right way.

Haven't we seen this before? One campaign takes the inflammatory statements of an individual affiliated--but not an official spokesperson of--another campaign and, being just shocked, *shocked*, at the bigotry and unfairness expressed in them, calls for a blanket apology from the opposing campaign and a denunciation of the speaker. It's that clever "if you apologize you must have done something wrong and if you don't you're clearly an agent of intolerance" gambit. (Someone should think of a name for this. You know, besides acting like a prat). The opposing side ignores the request and, humbly attempting to look presidential, pleads for unity and a focus on more important issues.

And we're done.

Brownback,……..what a laughably pathetic attempt at pandering for votes……Unless, I’m mistaken, you’re supposed to be a candidate vying for the seat that possesses the following titles, “President of the United States, Leader of the Free World, Commander in Chief”, etc., etc. With all of the other MAJOR issues that you take your fellow candidates to task on, you try and make some political fodder with this ridiculous, non-issue….. It shows just what a “small change thinker” you (and those around you) must really be…. Clearly, illustrating, that you’re too much of a remedial thinker for such an important office. To that end, the next time you have this level of thought process, why don’t you give it some proper exposure and have one of your staffers spray it as graffitti on some abandoned warehouse

The thing that all of these articles fail to mention is that Tim Rude's e-mail was only to TWO other pastor's, friends of his for the last 30 years, not "pastors throughout Iowa" like most articles mention. Brownback's campaign is using it for publicity and to discredit another candidate. The whole thing is sad and pathetic.

About 20 years ago the republican greed machine sold their souls to the religious right. They saw this crowd as a ripe pool of fools who would vote against their own self interests; and, could easily be manipulated to support republican policies that only favor the very rich. Now, they are facing pay-back time as the religious loonies want the power that they were promised and the repubs are laughing in their faces.

So the club for growth is running ads against a loser with no chance of winning. I think this is a sign that, now that religious hate is no long a vote getting proposition, they are having second thoughts about their deal.
