The word "Freedom" as invoked by the Bush regime for all their nasty, underhanded, cowardly tactics is such a contradiction in thought and meaning. Where is the freedom for our military that has been redeployed 2,3, and 4 times or more to a BS war? Where is the "freedom" for the families that have lost their loved ones or will have to support one who is horribly disfigured and/or disabled? Where is the "freedom" for any Iraqi that doesn't subscribe to the jihad of the insurgents or al-Queda? Where is the "freedom" in America where the justice department has been so fatally biased? Where are the "freedoms" granted by the Constitution to all the citizens of America that this regime has trampled on again and again. When I see the word "Freedom" labelled to anything anymore, I can almost bet it's another con being pushed by the most "un-American-pro-American" regime in the country - that of the Bush administration.

There are so many similarites between this War and the Vietnam's it's surreal. China is dependant today on Iran's oil deal of 70 billion dollars, Russia is against our foreign policy in the Middle East, in the beginning the Afganistan War involved Russia and the Afghanistan backed US fighters as opposing enemies like the South and North Vietnam's opposition to each other. We invaded Iran also as Bush explains to "free the people" as in Vietnam and secure a democractic-Vietnam or as today in Iraq for the same ideological reasons. North Vietnam and the communist party invaded South Vietnam (a regime) we supported much like today as in the 1990 feudal tribal wars of Afghanistan we created. If we were told that the main objective in Iraq was to get rid of Saddam Hussein, I wouldn't have had a problem. Instead we were told that there was a possibility of WMD production and usage. Bush was not only complicit he was also a tool of the CIA, Haliburton, and others who stood to gain from this war. I do believe that if Iraq were to have a successful/model democratic government, one that functions, many in the middle east would make note of its success and implement changes of their own. I don't want to be in Iraq away from my family anymore than the rest of my fellow service members do. We followed Bush into this war and helped to destabilize Iraq and now the people who live here are in great need of assistance. Were we right to wage such a devastationg war on Iraq? No one will truly know but we do know is that without assistance a great many people of Iraq will suffer. Were we foolhardy to believe that the U.S. could create a democratic arab country where few others exist? Yes we were! Were we naive to believe we could rebuild Iraq without the overwhelming support of neighborinng arab nations? Yes we were!

The question american people need to answer is quite simple, "Do we want our military to spend the next three to eight years in Iraq strenghtening their forces and ebuildig their country? Do we want to see service members in harms way until Iraq can stand on its own?". Will service members die during this 3 to eight year time frame? Yes, they will die but as the years drag on the numbers will decrease. Would rebuilding Iraq go faster with help from the many other countries from the United Nations or simply other arab nations? Yes most definitely, but we can't count on getting help from others. We can only depend on ourselves.

The American people must decide what price it is willing to pay to make Iraq whole again. Yes I sad it is the peoples decision because it is the governments job to carryout the will of the people.

Since President Bush likes making references to past conflicts lets discuss one more.

In the fleeting years of the 19th century the U.S. was at war with Spain. One of the less spectacular battles of that war occurred in the Phillipines where the occupying spanish forces were meager and easily dispatched by an overwhelming American military. With the spanish navy sunk and army defeated the American government decided the native Filipino people were not capable of running there own country so it emplaced a governing body of its own. Needless to say such actions brought about much anger and resentment from the local people. The very same freedom fighters that helped fight the spanish over the years and liberate their homeland turned into an insurgent force that wreaked terror throughout the islands. The insurgency lasted for almost 15 years. Initially the insurgency was very effective because they fought for what most Filipinos wanted at the time, to run their own country, but as the years dragged on and the U.S. demonstrated that its intentions were to absorb the phillipines into its territories and not just reign over it like the spaniards did. Part of Communist strategy is that because most people want just to live their lives with a minimum of fuss, that 1/8 of the citizenry can take control through determined and brutal treatment of the rest. The president trained in obsolete National Guard aircraft that were not going to be deployed to SE Asia, and still couldn't even make it to NG drill. The vice president took five --- FIVE! --- deferments because he said Vietnam wasn't one of his priorities.

Now they have us stuck in a violent quagmire from which there is no simple way out. Forty years later, we're still playing "whack-a-mole."

We have a Faustian choice to make: 1) stay with little hope of victory (just not losing) at the expense of many, many more lives, or 2) withdraw, save the lives of our sons and daughters, and allow the circumstances in Iraq to work themselves out, no doubt with the loss of many lives.

Staying in Iraq is throwing good money after bad. No matter how many lives and trillions of dollars we waste there, the outcome will be the same. The world, especially Middle Eastern nations, are not going to let us capture oil production in Iraq. The harder we push, the more opposition will push back. We see Iran and Syria pushing now and we see the Iraqi president soliciting their support. It is not unreasonable to expect Russia and China to also step in if necessary to prevent US monopolization of Iraqi oil production.

To those who want to control oil production in the Middle East: Good luck. We will drain all of our resources trying and only an idiot (ie, GW) would think it possible. This war has placed the future of the US in a precarious position whereas we once had balanced and stable relations with oil producing nations. GW screwed that up forever.

For national security and to control our dependency on foreign oil, instead of wasting trillions in Iraq, we could have given every taxpaying citizen a free hybrid vehicle, reducing air pollution and cutting oil consumption in half. But no, we needed to make Haliburton richer and kill and mame thousands of Americans.

For those who think this is about bringing freedom to the Iraqi people, give me a break. GW doesn't care about Americans, let alone Iraqis. He is a Class A ass that will be recorded as the worst president in our history.

To the guy that compared this war to our actions in Germany and Japan following WWII - if you believe there is any similarity your mind is already too far gone.

Congress is controlled by corporations and special interests. Our president is over the edge. There is only one honest candidate that has the integrity to restore respect in Washington.

We broke it (Iraq) and now we (America) owns it! When Powell was chairman, he knew if we took down the leadership during Gulf War 1, we would have to maintain a presence their to influenced the balance of power within a volatile region. Now that we've mucked that all up, we've started an arms race based on radical religious ideology that could come back an haunt us. 20 billion dollars in arms to Saudia and another $25 billion to Israel. Iran and Syria are raising their heads against our interest - yet there's nothing we can do about it militarily because of the resources that are pinned down fighting in Iraq. They're not as stupid as we want to believe they are - are they? We take out the Iraqi leadership and now empower the Shiites in Iraqi. Smart!
Anyway, what about Turkey - they really don't like seeing the Kurds running around under the protection of the USA - a NATO ally of Turkey's. Boy talk about bone headed messes. Can someone tell me how this is going to all be spun in the name of what????????

I'd like to see the veterans who have had to sue the U.S. government for proper testing, benefits and no interference from the Pentagon in their diagnosis. Maybe those 600,000 vets who are in the VA backlog may have a thing or two to say on tv as well.

Where is the tv spokesperson/group for these vets?

I know we want to bring our troops home, but we have to also look at what we are bringing them home to.

What I've learned from reading the above comments is that Liberals never see beyond the end of their nose...life is about the "NOW", and to heck with whatever is coming down the pike in the future. Republicans see the BIG PICTURE. It's not just about Iraq and the Iraqi people in the end. The Middle East controls most of the oil supply in the world. America, China, Europe, and many other countries are dependant on oil. Whoever controls the oil controls the lives of all the other people in the world. The U.S. and other progressive countries don't want to "control" all the oil, they want to keep renegade leaders from controlling the lives and the economy of all the other nations in the world. Everyone needs to read a book titled "Armageddon, Oil, and Terror", by John Walvoord. WAKE UP all you spoiled, materialistic folks who only care about your present comfort. And, by the way, I wish each of you had to walk a mile in the President's shoes, maybe then you would understand just how "enlightened" you really are.

So Willa Stewart, I guess you HAVE walked in the president's shoes. So you know what it is like to ignore Congress, Iraq veterans, and the American people. You know what it is like to waste thousands of young lives and trillions of dollars. You know what it is like to mock democracy and the Constitution. You know how to lie and make your friends rich. You know how to rape America.

I haven't walked in the GW's shoes and I won't. But I have walked in Iraq wearing a US Army uniform. When you get some credentials, perhaps then you can preach to the rest of us. In the meantime, take your little book and your opinion and weigh that against the vast majority of Americans that want this war to end. In a democracy, you should respect that.

Republicans see the big money. I was just reading how one of the guys who invested $20,000 in Force Protection Industries recently sold off his stock in the tens of millions of dollars. The White House has no intention of drawing down the military aspect of the war when its cronies are getting filthy, bloody rich from it. If they passed a law saying anyone who has profited from the war must fund it with 10% of their profits for every year the war drags on, it would have been over yesterday with the GOP declaring victory.

Complain about the current administration all you want, repeat all the partisan-engineered rhetoric you want. Get on the bandwagon because that seems to be the thing to do. Not sure what your point is. You don't have any facts or use any logic. You just make a lot of assumptions about what is motivating the majority of Americans to turn against this war and then predict that they will all be wrong and you will be right. Whatever.

I'm not a Democrat, I'm just an American. I don't have an agenda or an axe to grind. I'm just tired of watching George W. Bush run this country into the ground. We are so much weaker today compared to when he took office. Please ask God to help you see this and the reasons why.

Answer this simple question - If there was no connection between Iraq and Al Quaeda, why did we attack Iraq? The 9/11 Commission found no connection and, when pressed, the President admitted there was no connection. Yet he still tries to imply there was a connection today because he is a desparate pathetic little man. That was quite a "mistake", don't you think?

If we had recorded cellphone conversations and aerial visuals on mobile WMD labs in Iraq, did we stop looking? If we had absolute proof of their existence with pictures and all, don't you think we would have been able to follow their movement to Syria, Iran, or wherever those who defend the "big lie" think they went?

Since those days, evidence of selective intelligence and false intelligence have all been proven as attempts to sell the war to Congress and the American public. How are we supposed to feel about a president that lies?

Our national energy has been consumed by this unnecessary war. Meanwhile, our country decays for lack of attention. Our foreign debt is sky high and we are hated for the very arrogance and self-righteousness expressed in your message.

Here is a quote in response to the President's recent comparison of Iraq and post-WWII Germany and Japan. It's from CNN:

"They [war supporters] keep on doing this," said MIT professor John Dower. They're desperately groping for a historical analogy, and their uses of history are really perverse."

Our president created a real problem for the US where there wasn't one before. We will never recover our position in the world and the nightmare will go on forever until we admit that mistake.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Quit trying to pretend that this is somehow going to go away when we triumphantly enter Baghdad and are greeted by thousands of cheering Iraqis.

I don't like the Democratic candidates for President either. The only person I think speaks from the heart and is totally honest is Ron Paul. I don't agree with him on all the issues either, but I do think he is honest and right now, honesty is what gets my vote more than anything else.

The majority of people believed at first that there was credence to what was being sold. After reading, and not listening to spin, using common sense, and not taking a party stand, the effort to sell this war was in the interest of oil people, and government, war-supply contractors. The majority of American people are not stupid, just the remaining few who like yourself, will go down without using the so-called freedom we talk about, to think, and act, out of defiance to this administration. Let's call a spade a spade. You are really against Bush because he is a Republican. He got elected because there were votes for him than for the slop-jar turncoat who ran against him. You are all ticked-off because your "man" didn't win and you hate that and now you find all kinds of reasons why he's no good. You listen only to what the Demoncratic election machine tells you... mostly half truths and outright lies. You ALWAYS just pass over the good news in the media and look admiringly for the bad IF, IF it shows some sort of disrespect for our President. People like you will never admit that the things you hear are somewhat false and slamted by the people who write/speak them. Like dutiful sheep you follow the slime spewing, hate-filled political wannabes who have nothing good to say about themselves so they emphasize over criticize everyone else.
I have no doubt that our next president will be from the Demoncratic party. This is inevitable because of the slimey rhetoric they have been spreading as truth is eaten up and taken as fact by people who are still rampant and irritated that their "man" didn't win the last time around.
And, when the next president(a Demoncrat) gets seated in the White House his first four years in office will accomplish nothing except more problems for the US AND the entire world. And he will blame is ALL on the current administration, JUST LIKE CLINTON DID! The old reason will again be.. "We (the Demoncrats) didn't cause this mess.. do don't blame us if we can't fix it."
