Think about it. We were "ATTACKED" in December 1941 at Pearl Harbor. By Japan. Is "attacked" the correct word to use for what happened on September 11th? Doesn't this imply A COUNTRY "attacked" us instead of who actually did? Criminals.

Did not the White House make this clear. No.

No wonder the country bought it all in 2003. The War on Terror is in Iraq because Saddam Hussein had something to do with us being ATTACKED on September 11th. Very easy tale to sell the country. Only it was never true.

I find it odd that, although Clinton thinks our troops are "refereeing their civil war", that she doesn't support Richardson's idea of bringing them all home. Richardson doesn't care, he just wants to do the right thing; Hillary is the cautious, political animal here. And I am SO tired of cautious political animals!
And I agree that terrorism should be since as an international criminal problem, not a holy jihad against "evil doers". That religious apocalypticism is strictly Bush's line of crap. Let's not fall for it. Terrorists are international thugs, criminals of the highest order, and their criminal enterprise is ingeniously organized...but they're not pawn of Satan, and we're not clean-and-pure soldiers of God. Let's take apocalyptics out of it, and put international law and order back on the table.

I believe many of the comments previously posted are ignorant to what is happening within the United States.

First off there was a debate in Spanish because believe it or not, Hispanics are the largest growing minority in the United States. It doesn't matter if you want to accept it or not.

There is no border with Canada, but many people don't realize that a great number of people are entering illegally through that border because it is so much easier. It's not only Canadians that come through there you know.

The debates haven't been held in any other language because there is no other language that is as widely spoken as Spanish in this country. If you want a debate in French or redneck as you put it, go find the appropriate channels and do so. See how many people are going to care about that.

Basically the issues mentioned yesterday were proven by all these comments. There is a lot of Hispanic resentment in this country. People don't care whether you are a citizen or just came here they punish you regardless.

We've always been a country of immigrants, and now we're punishing those who want the American dream as well? It is only a matter of time before this mentality drives America down, and I'm very sad to be witnessing it.

You are an idiot. Anyone who reads your quote will see that. Amongst LEGAL Americans, Latinos are the fasting growing population. Get used to Spanish, or else when you are old YOU will have a hard time fitting into this country.

Let me ask the Repubs this.....What is more damaging to America? Terrorism or Illegal Immigration. The terrorists entered through CANADA, not MEXICO. I am a white, middle-class person like I assume many of the people responding. I am going to tell it like it is....I hear a LOT of white middle-class people making the same argument. The truth is they are rascist and scared because where they live, the Latino neighborhoods have more people living in poverty and there is also more violence in those areas. And you know what, that does have to stop. Especially the gangs. Until they get a hold on their community and stop accepting bad behavior they will keep encountering this friction. But, white people, to say everyone who comes here has to learn English is ridiculous. Plenty of us white people have relatives who don't speak English. I know I do! But they will say the Latinos have to learn English because they feel they have more rights because they were lucky enough to have had a family member move here before they were born. Remember, not all us living in the white communities have English speaking parents, so watch it because you are being really offensive.

I would like to see our government pressure the Mexican government to improve workers' rights. That way wages will go up (and keep more jobs in the US) and living conditions will improve (and keep more Mexicans in Mexico- where they would probably prefer to stay if it is livable, just like our ancestors would have preferred.) That is the right thing to do. Not round up everybody and throw them back. Geez, and the people who want to do that are supposedly the MORAL people in this country! How backwards!

I think it was an excellent question - about no Canadadian but Mexican border fence. It revealed the lies in the immigration debate. You hear congressmen (mostly republicans) talk about US needing a fence to protect against terrorists. Well if there is a fense at Mexian border and no fense at Canadian border guess which way the terrorists are going?
Borders will not stop outsoarching and illegal immigration. It's simple law of supply and demand. If Americans are not willing to do certain jobs for a certain pay and there are millions of people who are willing to do the same job for this pay - the jobs will be outsourced and illegal immigrants will continue coming - the wall is a waste of time. It will never be done; it will never work. It's a global economy and we have to acknoledge other countries economies when we look at US economy. Since we have not been doing that US dollor is loosing its value. I think it's about time we start seeing reality - US is not the only country in the world.
I agree illegal immigrants are demonized and blamed for every evil in US. We should not blame them - they are people desperate for work looking to do better for themselves and their families. They did not come here to steal of use our free services. They contribute to our country's economy and therefore taxes that are used for social services are paid by them and companies that benefit from them. Our broken immigration system that is set up to allow them to work here illegally and pay taxes is what we have to blame. This system is set up to allow to exploit illegals. We owe it to them to legalize them. The whole world is watching - will this modern time slavery continues or will it stop?

Betty - That's not at all what they were saying. How long did it take you to learn your languages? It's a struggle, and it's especially a struggle when you live in an area that predominantly speaks Spanish. And lest you jump on the anti-Spanish bandwagon, it's fairly common for people of the same ethnicity to live in close proximity and to keep their culture, including their language, alive and flourishing in those areas.

I agree that people who live here should learn to speak the language. I also recognize that it's easier said than done. Should we just freeze people out of the process? I don't think so. Most of these people pay taxes as well, and are clearly interested in the political process otherwise they would not be watching a pre-primary debate.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say you have to speak English to be an American. Whether it should or not is a matter for debate, but as long as it doesn't, there is nothing wrong with broadcasting a debate (in which the candidates spoke English, btw) on a Spanish-speaking network.
