Dennis is right about one thing, Iowa is already pretty much rigged for either Clinton or Edwards anyway. More and more stories for Norman Hsu, Hillary is going to tripped up at some point. The idea that having a concern about something contradicts "a profile in courage" is the kind of stupidity that Bush has exemplified in his ruining of the country; what's special about Obama is that he has pragmatic concerns even about the things he thinks are a good idea. That ability to be self-aware and adaptable to the realities of a situation are far preferable to the mentality that assumes since a decision has been made, it must have been a good one; the ability to spot and analyze flaws in even the best proposals is essential in our next President, and no one has stepped up to the plate with this issue intellectually like Obama has.

Please help me understand exactly what you consider a profile in courage.... Hillary standing on the Senate floor saying Sadam had WMD and voting for the it without reading the NIE? Or maybe the fact that she continued to argue that it was a good thing until she announced her candidacy? That took real courage. Or maybe Edwards showed courage too...I think he has admitted that he wishes now he went with his gut...why didn't he?

Give me a break...however reluctant he may or may not have been...and oh by the way this is one persons word....but don't let a little thing like that STOP you. I have read where he disputed this statement. Never the less....he stood up. He had the COURAGE to say it even if he was reluctant. Most thinking people
weight every decision they make. He is not a pacifist so I can understand his concern that people would think he was. He just thought this WAR was stupid....and he was right.

Anne in Davenport: I find it equally disturbing. There was a time you could have serious debate with intelligent people on this blog. That's a very rare phneomenon now. Many of the more policy-minded bloggers no longer post here. We're left with the mud-slingers and the name-callers who offer little if anything to the policy debate. By all accounts every candidate is either a liar, a hypocrite, or a flip-flopper. Let's get past that nonsense and debate policy. Who has the best plan for stablizing Iraq and bringing our troops home? But what is interesting NI is that Republican transgressions are front in center in the public eye, and those Republicans are quickly dispatched from politics. Anyone that thinks Vitter will be reelected will be sadly mistaken. The "nobody's business" term you throw out there seems to be quickly lost when a Republican strays from the beaten path.

For Democratic transgressions, the "nobody's business" term is first and foremost. Democrats fight to have work place rules in place to protect employees from employers seems to get lost when one of their own, the top one in this case is harrassing the help. Then when the spouse of the top guy takes it in the teeth, it is not so unreal to question why that person is so accepting of that abuse. And, if you're saying work place rules to protect women and minorities is not a serious matter, that is your business. Many others though happen to think it is an important issue. Funny that issue hasn't come up in any of these debates.

I don't mean to be harsh here but the all volunteer army, designed to replace the injustice of a draft that allowed exceptions for the wealthy and powerful, has turned into a sorting system that dangles education and $26,000 imediate ship signing bonuses to people who think that $26,000.00 is a lot of money. This allows the children of the wealthy and powerful to go about their business and "serve" their country by supporting the troops right to volunteer and die for their country. I applaud your choice of supporting Hillary Clinton for President. She is a good woman and a good choice as are all the major Democratic candidates. Did you know that she was a Democrat? Are you even registered to vote? If so have you ever voted before? I only ask because the other day our College intern, noticing the Tombstone on my computer desktop, asked me who Habeas Corpus was.
