If that happens the Democrats will either pull the troops out as they should or, like a deer in the headlights, continue the policy in political paralysis. Either position gives the Republicans a solid platform for reclaiming the white house and congress no later than '16 and as soon as '12. We can wonk health care and trade all day long but it is a waste of time unless we use the time that we have to end Iraq on the watch of the people who stumbled into it. If we can do that then we have a chance to move this country forward. If we don't then the legend of Democratic failure grows for another generation.

Iraq: The Dem challenge

All the misogynistic closet gay republican men can't stand the thought that Hillary will the next President of the United States.

Iraq: The Dem challenge

Screw healthcare!! I want my free Porche!!

Iraq: The Dem challenge

union baby, do you work in healthcare? Obviously not, if you think government sponsored health insurance would be better than what we have now. Ever heard of Medicare or Medicaid? What the government decides to pay for is what you will get, including how long you "get" to stay in the hospital, what surgeries you need, what medications you need. You must have drank too much beer in college.

Iraq: The Dem challenge

jerry/corpus christi texas--This is no longer an argument of the past. Their fear is warranted because she will be our next president."

The right wants Hillary as the Democrat nominee, so bad, they realize it is possible she could win, but they believe to the core of their being that she would be the easiest to beat. I wonder if people who don't understand that Hillary's high negatives (almost all the hate of her is unjustified) make it very unlikely she could win the general election know very many independents, or even moderate Republicans. If they did, I don't think they'd dismiss Hillary's very big electability problem.

What is baffling about so many people who support her, which I will if God forbid she is the nominee, is that so few even know her voting record. At the AFL-CIO forum she said NAFTA needed some revisions, and enforcement of violations, and she touted her opposition to CAFTA, the implication being she learned her lesson from Bill's pushing through Geo. HW Bush's NAFTA treaty. However look at her voting record CAFTA is the only "free trade" (screw US unions) agreement she ha voted against, she has voted in favor of every other trade agreement, she is the only Democratic candidate in the Senate to have done so (Obama has also voted with Clinton on the trade agreements while in office, but he has been in 4 years less) Biden, Dodd, and Edwards voted against the trade agreements that she supported. She even spoke on the Senate floor (before voting yes) that she was very concerned that the trade agreement with Australia took away Congressional jurisdiction on drug importation. Of course she wasn't too concerned to vote against it.

Iraq: The Dem challenge

a lot on the internet about the march and the die-in----watched it on c-span----both sides. One of the military moms spke about the anti-war marchers including the Iraq vets against the war like a snake.Told them to get out of this country---smell the love? The eagles are nasty and are looking for a smackdown it seems---Between 160 and 200 arrests---FREEDOM not really free in the Bush regime

Iraq: The Dem challenge

"their presidential legacy to be just as tarnished as Bill Clinton's was. " Jerry, W too will be tarnished beyond anythong Clinton 1 ever did.

Iraq: The Dem challenge

Uhhhh H P in Boston?

Blondes may have more fun......

But as Bill Clinton found out with Monica....

Brunettes ROCK!

Iraq: The Dem challenge

"What the government decides to pay for is what you will get, including how long you "get" to stay in the hospital, what surgeries you need, what medications you need." Substitute "insurance company" for "government" in the above statement and it reads just as true, except that it costs a lot more, provides a lower standard of care, and has no mechanism for appealing the beauracratic rulings of the pencil pushers. As for Friedman, he's been predicting dramatic improvement in Iraqi security within 6 months since the beginning of the conflict. The very fact that 6 months in the future is now referred to as a "Friedman Unit" illustrates his consistent inability to predict the future. He's even among those who predicted railing against the war would be costly for Republicans in the last election. Guess that's why they only have a majority in both houses of Congress but it isn't veto-proof.

Iraq: The Dem challenge

Jerry, why complain about Hillary when Georgie Porgie, as soon as he got in office changed the time on presidential records being opened to scholarly review from 20 years to 50 years. This is what now has France and Sarkozy so worried.[Sarkozy stating over the weekend that war may be neccesary against Iran to deny them these weapons]. Then of course, the other ''downside''is that they want to kill everybody. Not simply those in the ''South'' of Iraq. Sweden, which has its massive armies enconsed in Baghdad[actually they do not have a single boot on the ground in Iraq],has now been targeted by al Qaeda-in-Iraq for terrorist ''operations'' beginning with the cartoonist[ Lars Ailks] who penned the ''roundabout dog''picture of the so-called ''prophets''head on a dogs body. He was warned today by police to get out of his house and move to another area or another country.[ we will point out here that this is what keeps American media companies, this one included,in cowardly silence lest the next Holly Baily,or Chris Matthews,or Frank Rich find themselves the target of a hit-contract fatwa issued by those adherents of the ''religion of peace''[trademark].
Israel, taking no chances that the load of ''cement''which was dropped off at a Syrian port by a North Korean ship was actually cement, rather than the fissable nuclear materials that they suspected it was,[which could then be simply placed on a SCUD warhead and launched],nailed the Syrians in a pinpoint precision airraid by the IDF and blew up their facility along the Iraq border.
Pelosis ''road to peace''is now in pieces, thanks to the Assad governments massive rearming schedule which consists of garnering nuclear weaponry. The problem we have here is that having compared the war to Vietnam, critics of the war illogicaly believe that withdrawl will engender the same consequences.[last helicopter out,a few hundred thousand more deaths in order to stabilize, and then Made In Iraq t-shirts in a few more decades].Nothing could be further from the truth. Iraqs destiny, minus the US,will be determined, unlike that of Vietnam,by outside players in Syria,Iran,Saudi Arabia,Egypt and Jordan. Any one of which has the capability to move the region towards an even wider war than the one France and America saw in Indochina. Again, complete with nukes.

Iraq: The Dem challenge

YES JERRY ITS TOUGH TO COMPARE TO THE WOMAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE NOW WHO GOT US IN THIS MESS PLAYING SOLDIER, GEORGETTE BUSH <COMPASSIONATE CONSERVITIVE>MISSION ACOMPPLISHED.Your comments are as stupid as mine, but im trying.Whats your excuse?

Iraq: The Dem challenge

"Susan,Miami / MK, We all know why we back a candidate and you know why you back yours. As we clearly are operating without and effective strategy, what should the strategy be?

Iraq: The Dem challenge

We should get out of Iraq. Whether we stay or whether we leave, Iraq will be a mess. The only thing is that if we leave we will not lose any more of our children while the Iraqis keep killing each other. Let them work it out among themselves. It's their country.

Iraq: The Dem challenge

Susan:

Healthy/Normal:

let's examine this a moment....

Hillary is getting money from a convicted criminal and probably other convicted criminals...

Hillary finally made her health care plans available after checking with all the health lobbyists that give her money.

She is married to a control freak/woman jumping/Morality impaired moron who tells the nation that "he did not have sex with that woman"

last time she brought out her health care plan, she led the GOP to victory.....

She has rallies in Iowa that are putting people to sleep (time magazine).

Might be more ripe for the national enquirer to be reporting on her then the Washington post/new york times!

Iraq: The Dem challenge

Lee, since you wish to consider the IAEA correct in their assessment that Iran could have a sufficient stock of weapons-grade material in 2-3 years to build a bomb (not the same thing by a country mile as having a bomb) and acknowledge that they were also correct in saying that Iraq never had a bomb, can't it also be true that Iran is currently cooperating with the inspectors and that the drums of war are hurting rather than helping the effort to ensure they do not weaponize their nuclear program? Certainly their track record is a lot better than Eliot Abrams and Fred Kagan. As far as shaped charges are concerned that can be as simple as pouring a bowl of concrete in a hole, a bomb on top, and filling the rest of the hole with dirt. Yes, the Iranians may well be trying to route weapons to their Shiite cousins in Iraq. The Saudis and Syrians are trying to route weapons to their Sunni cousins likewise. All of these countries want a buffer of the same ethnicity between them and "the other" and Turkey doesn't want a Kurdish nation to their south. Which is why we should not have destabilized the region in the first place. Prudent diplomats wish to work from a climate of stability and make incremental changes. The neocons assume that secular democracies friendly to the US will "bloom like wildflowers" (their words, not mine) if they destroy the existing governments. How's that working out? Not too well I'd say, and they're wrong once again.

Iraq: The Dem challenge

John B.
