while it's current to assualt the stock decline and housing market woes please look past political points and focus on the larger issues facing the 280 million who don't make the top 3% income. pork barrell spending, tax plans that support the top 3%, outsourcing of us jobs, the cost of the war, the cost of gas eating away our family dollars and the associated rise in costs of consumer goods associated with that increase. in all these examples someone is pulling the profits as the majority suffer.

Perhaps this isn't the correct thread to mention this, however, I was at the March in DC on Saturday. I can't tell you how many nice people I met. These people are ordinary, hard working Americans who were in DC simply because they can't tolerate our government's policies since September 11th. Why is it that the political programs refuse to interview our fellow citizens in prime time?

They are not criminals, they are not drug addicts, they are me and you. We have listened to President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Condi Rice, etc., etc., etc. THEY LIE.

Why isn't the media interviewing Iraqi civilians and American citizens. We keep being told that it is up to us to change policy. I personally spoke to two 80 year old American citizens. They were purposely arrested. What else are they supposed to do before anyone listens to them? Why are WE being ignored?

Those were decent people in DC on Saturday. And they are out and out ashamed right now of what's happening in Iraq.

If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Obama sounds too good to be true. The big biz community doesn't care if a profitable venture they make does damage to America. They understand what they're doing. And Obama, even if he became president could do nothing to get CEOs and financiers to get together with common people to create a gentler and happier kind of capitalism. If he is assuming that these bad things are happening because the big guys upstairs are unaware of damage they are causing and would do right if their mistakes were pointed out to them, this is a wrong assumption. These guys would steal the gold out of their dead brother's teeth. They didn't get rich by being fair and respecting others and abiding by the law. If they suspect that one like Obama would rearrange their jolly little playpens in order for those less fortunate to get a bite of the pie, they can make sure he doesn't get elected. In fact, they are already doing something. They are making sure Hillary gets elected. She knows how the game is played. Ralph Nader is a good example of the chances of a populist getting elected. The only reason they are going with Hillary is because they know a Repub can't get elected after the mess they've made, and their reluctance to help the Dems clean it up.

JIrby, Colorado. You may be right about your assessment, but what I have noticed in most of Obama's speeches is how we as America need to come together to fix our problems. People taking some responsibility along with our government. Not the usual promising what the Government should do for everyone. In this speech he talks about everyone involved should be working together for the benefit of this country. True getting CEO's together with the workers might be a dream, but at least Obama is talking about it and not trying to promise a chicken in every pot and a new car in every driveway like the old candidates talking points.

Did you think the crowd was over the 15k mark? 20k, 100k? Were there as few as 1000 on the pro side? The coverage to say the least was spotty, and you noted how ignored we are. I was in NewburyPort Sunday, and there were 10 war protester holding signs and standing in a small(But visible)area near Market Sq. I stood with them and they were as angry and saddened by the war as we. Good people taking the time to stand for what they believe to be wrong. I was pleased to meet them and will join them again next week. WE were acknowledged by many passersby and encouraged by the support they showed. But no media!
I did suggest stripping for the definite fact that it would draw a large crowd but it was way to chilly.:)

HP, I honestly couldn't tell. It's hard to judge when you're in the middle of it. I'm glad to see you protesting, however, the media doesn't care. The politicians don't care. I saw 200 people getting arrested right in front of me on principal alone. Young and old. Iraq veterans and civilians.

In a way, it was so sad to watch. There should have been 1 million of us there on Saturday.

Not one politician at the Capitol could spare 5 minutes to say "I'm listening to you". Not one.
The media? Well, OJ was arrested. That's where the advertising money comes in to play.

Every single protestor I talked to knows how stupid people in this country have become. Dumbed down. Perhaps next time the Iraqi civilians should do the protesting. Maybe then people will listen. It's their story.

HP, the next time there's a March in DC I urge you to attend. The more the better.

This is what I like about Obama. He is a candidate not afraid to speak his mind on the issues even if it's not popular in addition to the usual rhetoric. The other candidates offer largely rhetoric.

It's not just a candidate's positions on issues that are important (though of course they are). An intelligent voter must also look at the character of the candidate, whomever that may be.

I was in DC Saturday. Based on what I've seen in marathons and other road reaces that fill the streets of cities, I'd say there were 15-20,000 peace advocates, with maybe a couple of hundred war advocates. Funny thing is the MSM spent as much focus on the pro war people as the 99% on the peace side. One thing I'll grant both sides is that they weer surprisingly respectful of each other given the passions people feel about this.

Steve, hours before the March began, I went out of my way to speak with pro-war citizens in front of the Capitol. And I agree with you, even though we did not see eye to eye on this issue, we were all quite respectful of each other's views.

Even at the airport waiting to board my flight home, I ended up having a beer with a couple who were 100% pro-war. They were extremely nice but they believe strongly in President Bush and his policies. But at no time did they force their opinions down my throat, and I did not to them either. (Actually, they ended up paying for my beer).

The problem is that the majority of these "victims" got huge amounts of cash when they refinanced their homes. Nice speech, but Obama left a few things out. At the moment we are borrowing $3 billion per day from Communist China to finance the war. How does he intend to end the debt? Doesn't say. No mention of the Federal Reserve - a private organization that, since 1913, has taken advantage of every citizen in the U.S. No mention of the FED either. That is why I am supporting Ron Paul. Of the candidates, his econonomic policies are the most sound and would best profit our Republic.
