Americans abroad tend to pay quite a lot of attention to US politics. Around campaign time there are typically a good few public debates, radio interviews, etc. of the Democrats and Republicans Abroad groups.

We also tend to pay better attention because news coverage of the US from abroad tends to be better than what you'll see at home. Watch a bit of BBC, Sky (Murdoch owned) or Al Jazeera English and you'll see how poor the news is in the US.

I also wouldn't count on those absentee ballots. Most absentee ballots are never counted by most states unless the election is close. In the case of Florida, even though the elections were razor thin close the Republicans rushed to certify the election before the absentee ballots from most of the troops had even arrived.

There's a lot I admire about Gulliani, though that's not the same as saying I would vote for him for president; I don't know who I would vote for among the present field of candidates.

As one poster comments, Americans abroad -- I live in Thailand -- do pay attention to American politics, especially on the national level, where matters such as Social Security, various national health programs such as Medicare, etc. are handled. And while I am almost certainly out of the norm, in the past few weeks I've written my congressman and both senators at least half a dozen times, so I do remain engaged.

Gulliani made some accurate remarks about the US-UK close relationship.

I just happen to be an American living overseas. There are a lot of us, either with the military or civil service or companies contracting with the military. There are many Army posts and Air Force bases in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Nato areas not to mention the middle east. I can tell you we all keep a close watch on what's going on at home.

This message is in response to S.B Stein E.B. of NJ. I am one of those Americans abroad in Asia, and I actually keep up daily. There are alaways articles in local papers about American politics and locals are always asking you about the situation. Many of Americans abroad pay attention to politics actually. To be honest more so than the average American.
