Democrats are for the poor people. That is why they want to EXPAND the SCHIP program. Bush thinks covering more children is not "fiscally responsible", as he claims to be. But if we don't invest in our children's health, who is going to fight Bush's war in 15 years?

Is this "400%" claim with respect to the *federal* poverty level? If so, then that's a very disingenous argument, as in many states the cost of living is high enough that the federal limit is a complete and utter joke. That's the same situation they're running into with the FHA currently.

Siegfried - I agree. Even within my state, there are vast differences in the cost of living. I spent a year in NW Iowa, and paid nearly half the rent that I paid when I lived in Des Moines. And both of those are cheaper than the big cities.

If you're a family of 4 with both parents working and employer provided insurance, you're going to be hard pressed to afford health insurance without some assistance. I would suggest a better state to live in. I can live a great life, put money away for retirement and enjoy eating out three times a week and all on my salary. Texas unemployment rate is 4.2%, still got lots of companies looking for people to come work for them. I've started working another job part time to put money away for Christmas and they want me to start going full time. Told them 16 hours a day is a bit much for me. They want me to stay on after the holidays, but i only do this for Christmas.

So Laurie, time to load everybody up and head to Texas. By the way, if things are so tough, how can you afford time to type on this computer?
