Considering the intensity of the saber rattling of late it is extremely important for many voices to be heard and much thinking to be done by a citizen in a free society where free speech is not feared but revered. Clinton nor R. Giuliani are very trustworthy as candidates. Yet, both of them being the frontrunners, what does that say about our country (who consistently claims that they do not care for that type of candidate). Their viewpoints my differ, but their politics are little different from President G.W. Bush. H.R. Clinton is only doing as well as she is because 1) she is a woman in a party in which the majority of members are women and wish to be empowered and 2) because she has Fmr. President W.J. Clinton's political contacts and political capital. Yes, I will concede, she is talented in her own right and is warming up to a personality, but I believe her success is largely related to the previous 2 points. She has that advantage, and I won't hold that against her.

That is why my top four candidates are Obama (of course), Biden, Romney and Huckabee--though I worry deeply about the separation of church and state with him as that is a very important issue to me. I don't believe that America can go wrong with any of these candidates, whereas some of the rest will royally *something, something* us over. In the field available, I feel that they are the best hopes for this country.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Since when is it "outrageous" to have "Freedom of Speech" in a democracy? Or, Mr. Giuliani, do we live in one?

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Who cares what RudytheRat thinks.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

M. Where they are free to have anyone they choose to listen to be given the right to talk? "Freedom of Speech" is one of the cornerstones of our nation, and if people like this small time Hitler feel it is their right to deny it they are free to do, but they should bear in mind that what the right to speak what they say is granted to them by the same great Constitution that allows President Ahmadinejad to address people at Columbia. And absolutely no, the protection and the rights granted by our Constitution do not apply only to Americans despite what some small munded fools would believe; they are available for all the world.

I am so sick of this bunch of Republican empty suits running around naysaying everything, demanding people live their lives in fear, condemning that which does not meet their narrow minded views and wrapping themselves in the flag while at the same time rejecting everything and all that our Constitution stands for. The Republican Party used to be a great party intent on making America greater and greater in the world. If you listen to the current crop of small minds that front the party you wonder where the greatness went, and when the wish for a greater America has was lost in preaching of hatred, fear, division and jingoism. Americ needs the Republican Party; we just don't need this one. Better leaders need to be allowed to come forward rather than being kept in the background by a delusional President and a small group of his followers, whose hold on the party is bolstered by the Republican inability to speak ill of their leaders. They're out there. Perhaps someday they will restore the glory of the Party.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Aha! They are to busy blaming liberals for all that is wrong in the world.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

there is no need to be afraid of giving the iranian president his moment of truth, we live in a so called free society, but everything thats happening indicates that we have hugh double standards, if he speaks we have the choice to agree or disagree with his points of view, and if the truth hurts so be it , atleast the american public will not have to be so heavily influnced by distortion of the truth as we constantly get from the Bush admin

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

"What ever happened to 'Keep your friends close and your enemy's closer' ? " You'd have had to have read a book in the course of getting your yale and harvard degrees to be familiar with that quote, and that's one thing I've never heard anybody accuse Bush of.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Well, I think it's interesting the Iranian President is supported by more Iranians than Bush is by Americans.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

I see a few chickehawks showed up to tell us all how bad the leader of iran is..like duh...too bad the chickenhawks won't fight iran except on their keyboards of course...

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

No one should be surprised by Rudy's opposition to free speech and academic freedom. The defenders of this Iranian leader are my fellow citizens. What is up with that. Remember he was there when Carter was President, he admitted he was envolved. This guy wants Isreal wiped off the map. Can we be so blinded by hate that some of you hold this guy up as a hero? I do not support every thing the current admin has done nor did I the previous. However to make statements comparing the President of the US to this wacko is crazy! Get a grip on reality, if the same posts were made in Iran reffering to their Pres you would probably wind up in prison. They have shut down all oposition press outlets, and will throw your wife in prison for showing her wrists. Every one wants to throw out the freedom of speech argument. What about freedon of speech in Iran? How much does this Iranian Pres allow in his own country? WE all want to complain about President Bush, about illegal wire taping,. how he thinks he is above the law. If you really want to see abuse look at this guy whos rights you are defending. We are however all Americans (or most of us) this man has reffered to us as his enemy. There is proof that the cud is delivering weapons to be used against our soldiers (our sons and daughters) in Iraq. Is there no love for our own country? ok I have heard the argument that if you dont hate this President you are unAmerican...BS When you publicly embrace our enemy you show nothing but contempt for your country. He has no rights here! Put him in a cage like he did our people in 1981. Grow up! Clinton's) sex would make her a better or worst leader of the United States; to the contrary, I posited that her style of politics would further divide our great nation in my opinion. I would love for a woman, black, Hispanic President just as much as a white man--which is a valid choice too, and that does not make me racist or sexist. I merely stated that her popularity can be largely attributed to the fact that she is a woman and her connections through Fmr. Pres. Clinton. I also stated that I don't fault her for that, but it is what I see as the truth.

It seems to me to be well documented in polls that Sen. H.R. Clinton gains a lot of her support from women. I think it fair to say that her popularity among women is not solely due to her skill as a politian, but is in part because she is a woman. Unless all of those women know something that the *lesser sex* is unaware of. Now that would be a sexist claim! I will give a for example, a close woman to me states that she will vote for the best candidate, but all being equal, she will chose the woman. My point was that I do not personally feel that Sen. Clinton fits the all-things-equal statement. But that would not make me a chauvinist. Oh yeah, except Barack Obama seems to have captured the higher educated block of voters.

Here's on for you, I actually think that Congresswoman N. Pelosi is an incredibly intelligent and skilled Speaker of the House, and I would not wish anybody different. She is an example of a leader who put aside politics (she is being challenged from the left in her district) to represent the country in a fair manner.

I would, in fact, charge that you might be more sexist. You appear to be either so in love with Sen. Clinton that she can do no wrong or eager to make such a hurtful charge. Get your facts straight before you make such an unfair and hateful charge against another person. I am all for freedom of speech, but it is this kind of speech (in my opinion) that divides our nation so greatly and is one part of the hindrance to progress with different minority groups, whatever they may be.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Attack a small country under false pretenses, suspend habius corpus, illegially spy on the citizens, sell your business base to foriegn companies and now try and stop "free speech." what is happening to our country. The Times has now confirmed that a Israeli commando unit sent into Syria to gain evidence of nuclear weapons research ahead of the Sept.6 attack by an IDF airstrike returned with nuclear materials which bear markings of a North Korean origin. North Korea has confirmed through REUTERS [Sept.22,2007] that several of its scientists were killed in the strike. As we speak,Syrian diplomats are now in Pyongyang deciding their next move. The IAEAs Mohammed El-Baradei acknowlages that both the assistance of the AQ Khan network and the North Koreans have led to an increase of centerfuges being sent to Iran which have but one purpose. To extract weapons-grade uranium.

In Iraq,Irans proxy war continues with the capture last week,of a top QUDS Force operative along the Iranian border in Sulimaniyah Province, who is now being grilled by Army intelligence. Six others, all Iranians, were also captured by coalition forces who have observed increasing activity by regular Iranian forces along the northern Kurdish border which have resulted in artillary strikes from the Iranian side of the border.[NEWSWEEK Sept.07,2007 and VOA/REUTERS Sept.20.2007]

Lost inside of the argument that ''Bush is ignoring the recommendations of the 9/11 Commissions findings'' by virtually all of the top Democrats and their candidates for president is this, located on the Reports Page 241:

''This topic requires further investigation by the US government''.

What is ''this topic''? It is,as Mike Issikoff and Mark Hosenball observed in an MSNBC report on July 23,2004,the evidence gleaned by the 9/11 Commission through German intelligence that Iranian QUDS and HEZBOLLAH played a role in the 9/11 hijackings.[10 of the 11 so-called ''muscle''hijackers[those who used physical force to gain control of the aircraft],were trained in Iran and all held Iranian passports and of these, one,Ramzi Binalbish, traveled to Tehran in response to an invitation less than seven months before the 9/11 attacks].

Ahmedinjenad merely gains further currency for his mad desires by counting correctly upon the lack of US desire in the wake of the unpopular war in Iraq that he can do any and all that he wishes in order to create a new Iranian Empire, backed by nuclear and C/B missles,in the Middle East and that we will acquiesce in the furthering of this goal. Of everyone involved in this drama with its global implications, only Israel has played its cards with a strong hand in acting while the democracies ''talk''the deal into dazed stupification. The Democrats, frightened to death of their parties leftwing, will be effectively neutered in dealing with Irans nuclear and empire ambitions, and of course, will not act until it is too late. The left itself,as has been obviously displayed by its comments and support,is allied to the intentions of the terrorist HEZBOLLAH which it deems a ''freedom movement''.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Will someone please ask Rudy if it was an outrage for Jesse Helms and other prominent Republicans to invite Roberto D'Aubuisson, head of the death squads in El Salvador, to a Washington dinner in his honor and to shake his hand and praise him. D'Aubuisson was responsible for the death of Archbiship Romero and 3 American nuns. Ahmad is a foreign head of state. That means (listen up rednecks) that he has diplomatic immunity and can't be treated like a common person. This talk of 'arresting' just shows off how semi-educated many people here are.
2. What goes around comes around. The reason Iran is a theocracy is America's fault. After WW2 until 1954, the CIA ran their country. Then they democratically elected a leader and he started to take back control of Iran and its wealth. That didn't fit America/UK's agenda, so they staged a coup and had him overthrown and replaced him with a puppet who did what America said. This pissed the Iranians off enough that by 1973, guess what? Islamic revolution! Ever since then, that's the reason Iran has not trusted the U.S. I despise Islamic theocracy, but again...you reap what you sow America.
3. I've lived all over the world and without a doubt American media and politicians spout some of the most biased/spun propaganda I've ever heard.
4. Ahmad might be half-mad, but he's not carrying ebola, people. He'll be here today, gone tomorrow. So what. He's sure got a hell of a lot of balls to come here like this.
5. Two of my relatives died in the WTC and I don't feel particularly offended that he wanted to pay a visit there. I distinctly remember the Iranians were sympathetic towards us; it was the bastards in places like Saudi, Gaza, and the West Bank who were celebrating. Those are our real enemies, the Sunnis, the ones who spread hate against the entire Western world. Of course, America is blind, as always, and only seeks its own short term interests. Saudi is our best 'friend' in the Middle East. Unbelievable.
6. Who knows if Iranians are supplying rebels in Iraq with weapons? Then again, the U.S. *did* supply Iraq with weapons to invade Iran during the Iraq-Iran war, in which something like 1 million were killed. It is the other way, haven't the citizens of this great nation and particular the republicans, realized that the current president is creating the division of the country, I need not to elaborate nor explain. Everyone know about the republicans scheme of campaigning, and their reasons of attacking H.R. Clinton and soft on Obama, poor guy. They (republicans) wish for the Democrats to support Obama, because the republicans knew Obama is black and some say he is a Muslim. The people of the United States will never support such a candidate, and the republicans felt that they can win with Obama as a democratic candidate. Wrong, Wrong. It is H.R. Clinton all the way. When you do that, it becomes a war of words, surely better than a cold-war of economics or a shooting war....tw
Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

I think if Ahmadinejad is going scheduled to speak at Columbia he should be allowed to. The man may be a raving lunatic, but try and muzzle him and he'll make himself into some sort of martyr for free speech--or at the least he'll proclaim us hypocrites to the world. I think it would be better to let him speak and then have a rebuttal session (or sessions) to offer other opinions later rather than just try and shut him up.

Personally, I think it is quite insane how people make a big deal out of who can say what. We ought to remember that hearing is not believing. I certainly hope we haven't become such sheep that we'd believe anything we were told. And so what if he is a loony Holocaust denier? That just serves to take away from anything he says all the more.

Also, to those who blame all Iran for the madness that spews from Ahmadinejad's lips, I would remind them that Iran happens to have a fairly open society. There are radicals in the government and a dangerous conservative push, but many Iranians do not take the hard-line of their president. Even the Ayatollah reprimanded Ahmadinejad.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Dawn - I'm not part of any "feminist crowd" but thanks for thinking of me.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Freedom of Speech is an essential tool of American Society... So is Freedom of Choice... If you choose to defend a despot like the President of Iran that is your choice... I personally condemn him and his government. I am sure all you puppies weren't even born then, but It was a terrible time for All Americans...

People that yell for freedom of speech and those that oppose it by not letting Ahmadinejead (whatever) have his say live in tide pools... Your opinions on any given matter changes with the ebb and flow of the tide of politics...

Do not look at this issue as a Left or Right political statement or view... It is a matter of What is Right and What is Wrong...

Is it right to allow a foriegn head of state come to our country espousing peace and love while his minions smuggle arms into Iraq to kill American Soldiers? Or, is that wrong? Is it wrong that the religious leader of Iran warns that American Troops in Afganistan and Iraq are within range of thier weapons, at the same time that Iran's President is blowing kisses of peace here on our own soil? Or, is that right?

Is it right or wrong to defend this person that wishes to see Israel destroyed and all thier lands given to the palestinians? Is it right or wrong to defend a President that denies the Holocaust and mocks it as a myth? Is it right or wrong to defend a leader of many people that supports terrorism in Lebanon, Israel, Iraq, Afganistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Europe, and America,as well as the Philipines and Indonesia with money, training and spiritual support?

Answer these questions honestly and ask yourself one more question...

Am I Right or Wrong?

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

If we do not destroy those that wish to destroy the West we will be nuked. Ahmedinejad has his own problems and is actually pretty smart if you read the actual ACCURATE translations of his speeches. I'm not defending him, but he is not hopeless like Saddam was. And his words have been twisted regularly in the media, as he says.
What IS sad is how ignorant and un-curious most Americans are. And in the face of these insults the Iranian president was polite and civil. The Iranian government now has even more grounds to decry the US as barbaric and inhospitable.

As much as we would like to believe so, the US does not exist in a vacuum. It cannot just fight the whole world and win, regardless of what it believes about its own military might. Just the fight in Iraq and the strain it has put on the resources of this country should cause all Americans - republican, democrat independent, even 'never-voted-in-my-life' - to wake up and realize that we do not have infinite power. We do need the support of other nations. As such, we need to put aside the issues of liberal vs conservative and take responsibility for our actions as a nation. So please understand that to unnecessarily insult the Iranian president on national and international television after he was invited to the US and to Columbia to speak, regardless of personal views on him is to offend not just an entire country but an entire region and religion.

Think of the impact it would have on the collective psyche of America if the US president were blatantly and publicly insulted by a foreign nation after being invited there. Regardless of the personal feeling about him here at home, even Americans who disagree with the president's policies, in fact even Americans who consider the president a down right idiot, would feel that the entire country had been insulted. It would serve to unite this country as nothing else would. People around the world are no different. Even the Muslims who disagree with the tactics of the Iranian president have been insulted by this.

The US really needs to stop and think about the international impact of its actions. After 9/11 - the US had the opportunity to literally rule the world. (for those of you who think the US rules the world right now - it really doesn't!)The majority of nations, including the Muslim nations were outraged by the tragedy and were ready to stand and support the US. Rather than harnessing the tremendous resource it was offered, the US has, since that time, chosen to take the them-vs-us route. To insult and bully its way into a position of infamy in the world and the reason that people are worried now about protecting our borders from 'the enemy' is because the US took the actions of a few madmen as cause to alienate everyone who is not American. Collectively demonizing a group of people has never worked. It didn't work for Hitler with the Jews, it didn't work for the extremists who committed 9/11 against America, it didn't work in Rwanda. Why would it work now, especially when this nation is demonizing not a country or an ethnic group or even a religious group but everyone in the world who is not American.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

I must say that it's painful to read the comments of so many anti-American liberals who seem to believe that 9/11 never happened or it's time to forget(remember the slogan "We Will Never Forget". Iran has been painted the same way that our own President has been painted. When will the American people stand outside the United Nations building and protest Bush's visit to address the UN?

In my personal opinion, I believe that the entire Republican party needs to calm down and actually sit and think about what they wish to tell the public. Now, please acknowledge my emphasis on the word "think". This party is known for it's knee-jerk reactions to anything that they feel is not valid.

My mother, stepfather and oldest brother react this same way. I remember on Thanksgiving day , a few years back, flew into Iraq to see the soldiers that were overseas fighting. No one knew about his visit until he came out from behind a curtain in the mess hall and served Thanksgiving dinner. That image will always be burnt into my head. What a coward.

The Iranian President was publically invited to Columbia University and accepted the invitation. He requested to lay a wreath at Ground Zero and was denied the ability to do so. Protesters stood outside the university and the United Nations. Bush avoids any venue that will have protests right up front where cameras can see the difference of opinion. This is called dictatorship. This MUST stop now or the American people will slowly have their Constitutional Rights stripped off one by one, until we are under the rule of a dictator.

Has President Bush ever gone into a country where he was labeled as part of an axis of evil? No, he hasn't. George W. Bush is a coward and will continue to be until January 20, 2009. I believe that the next President elected should pass a non-binding resolution to condemn George W. Bush for all that he has done and not done in his 8 years in office.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Rudy Gulliani is a Fascist who will have his way no matter how costly it is to others. Columbia University's president-- none at all. Who invites a guest to their turf, their inner sanctum where they are surrounded by like minded friends,to berate, ridicule, insult and televise the event for the entire world to see? Cowardly schoolyard bullies. This disgusting behavior by some of our most "educated" was followed by inflamatory, unsubstantiated remarks by an individual who would like to be our next president, followed by those who think freedom of speech applies only to Americans. These groups of people are joined by those who think it's okay to snatch people off the street and throw them in secret prisons without ever having due process because-- they are not Americans. And there are those who think it's okay to torture (we call it something else)those same people to protect our freedom from those we suspect would like to take it away-- wait a minute-- how does that work?.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Any of you Rudy haters RED BLOODED AMERICANS!!!!!!!!!!!!! As it is,I have bothered to track the extact findings of the 9/11 Commission which acted upon ''cooberated''evidence and demanded that the government get further involved in. We should observe here that this evidence has never been contested by an inter-governmental agency such as the debate over whether or not Iraq had WMD which revealed doubts in both the CIA and State Dept. Rather, all are allied in their findings that Iran played a role with al Qaeda prior to and after the 9/11 attacks. The 9/11 Commission agrees with this assessment. Then too,the presence of nuclear centerfuges in Iran is beyond dispute, and vests itself in the evidence gleaned by the IAEA,as well as the boasts of AQ Khan himself, and those of the top military members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards from which Ahmadinjenad sprang.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

As a Canadian, who loves the USA,I'm scared and shocked at you people who give an ounce of respectability to terrorist leaders like Ahmedinajed.
And you give no respect to Mr Bush, your Pres.. who stands up against evil.Thank God for people like George Bush and Stephen Harper, our Canadian Prime Minister, who is keeping Can. troops in Afghanistan to fight the evil of terroism.. We kill tens of thousands of Iraqis along with the lives of our own soldiers, and we have the gall to accused the president of Iran as being a terrorist. And then check your heads. How many of you have heard of "innocent until proven guilty"? Don't you think you are jumping to conclusions about Ahmadinejad, Iranian foreign policy, and terrorism in Iran? Do you really know the facts, and what is your source? You know, it has always scared me how some people can defend an idea with all of their emotions before they have really thought it through and carefully considered all of the known facts and evidence (read multiple sources of news of different biases, salon.com is great, so is the BBC, otherwise stay away from network tv news) - these are the same types of people who have hindered progression of our civilizations throughout history. The ones that killed Copernicus for stating the Earth was round, or even the ones that lynched African-Americans during the civil rights movement. But I refuse to believe that you people drew the genetic short straw and actually DO retain the capacity for rational human thought. So think about it? What cold, hard evidence do you really have on this guy Ahmedinejad whom you are so harshly judging? Are you calling what you hear on American televised newscasts evidence? - newsflash: that is about the most distorted form of evidence you can get. All you get from the news on tv is the opinion of the network's shareholders. You know what their opinion is? Whatever is going to get their station the highest ratings, then their viewers will stay on their channel and see the commercials which is what draws the big bucks in. We also have an executive government that uses the American public in a similar manner. Georgie and Dickie want another war. How can they sell it to the American public? How can they get it the highest ratings? Oh yeah, let's give them some "evidence" (ie. Iranian government is supplying Iraqi insurgents with arms). And the American public fall for it everytime. Hook, line and sinker.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

I am from Canada and I have to say I am impressed with the comments here. You don't show blind faith to Giuliani over Ahmedinejad. You weigh both their thoughts and give them their due, whether good or bad. I do feel we have to put oursleves in the shoes of Ahmedinejad. He is watching his neighboring state being taken over, but a country they are unsure of. How would America feel if Canada were being taken over by Russia. America would feel uneasy about that. All I can say is keep on following politics and put the facts and justice ahead of blind nationalism. But I will nod my cap to Columbia and the US for giving Ahmedinejad a chance to speak.

Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

Thank You Mr. Gulliani.
