I guess John Edwards is right, there are two america's. For a guy who talks about the poor, he is sure getting a lot of people kicked out of their homes and all because his name is attached to a company. Sort of like the Clinton's name being used with a company that is stealing money from Alzheimer's patients.

The Clinton's just dig themselves deeper and deeper into the abyss with each and every day. Now Bill Clinton got his depends in a knot because a picture of his daughter is in a restaurant in New York. I'd contribute to that guy's defense fund and go to war. I'd bring Hillary in to take the stand and just make life hell for them. A trial for Bill Clinton in the media capitol of the world? Priceless. At least the restaurant owner is leaving the picture of Rudy up, at least it shows he has class. If I was a lawyer, I would be drooling at the chance to take on the Clinton's in court.

Last night's debate continued a pattern we've seen in Iowa for the past six months. Edwards' answers are consistently more direct and more detailed. Clinton is frequently required to defend or otherwise respond to policy questions relating to her husband's presidency. Obama is magnificent when working from prepared material but stumbles with extemporaneous speech. There's a reason Edwards has consistently led in Iowa. We get to see exactly how these campaigns work for a year or more before they hit the national spotlight. (The fact is, we're tripping over them.) The bottom line? Take the headlines about "front runners" with a grain of salt. You're being "sold."

RE Edwards: It's entirely possible that he was unaware that a portion of the fund was responsible for predatory lending. Some of these funds are huge and unless your the fund manager or a savvy investor you probably do not know everything in the fund. Edwards worked as a consultant.

Bill and his attorneys sent a letter to the restaurant owner requesting that he take down the picture of Chelsea in the window because she may have eaten there once but was not endorsing the restaurant. I wonder when people will stop realizing that there is no objective way to determine who wins and who loses debates. It's not a point system where every correct answer gets you 5 points, or you are penalized for getting an answer wrong.

People see what they want to see in the candidates, in the debates as well as elsewhere in the campaign. Those who oppose Hillary thought she was horrible, while those who support her thought she was her usual solid self. Those who oppose Obama said he was off his game, while those who support him defend his responses as being classy and consistent with his philosophy of campaigning. It's the same with all the other candidates as well.

People walk away from a debate with differing impressions of what they just saw, much the same way that they walk away from a movie or a play or a concert with different opinions about it. That's because, like a debate, there is no empirical measure of "goodness" (for lack of a better word). It's good for some if Obama fights back, but others don't want him to. Some people want Hillary to stop laughing and start answering questions, but others think her strategy is working. Some people want Edwards to mix it up more, and others like his laid-back style better. It's all a matter of what appeals to each of us as individuals. There's no way to say which candidate is conclusively the winner.

We all have our personal views about who won and who lost last night. My own view is that Clinton did not lose her status as the front runner, but Edwards won if graded on points. Given the number of debates, and the fact not a single vote has yet been cast, I'm not sure the win-lose rankings last night matter very much.

I watch HARDBALL regularly, and what you view as Matthews bias is what I view as a commentator expressing an opinion. First impressions, including those of journalists, are not always right. In addition, Matthews comments are used mostly to solicit reaction and debate among his guests. I don't see the Matthews bias toward Hillary that you claim is obvious. Yes, I know Chris worked for Tip O'Neill and Jimmy Carter. So what!

What I see in Chris Matthews is an aging 1960's liberal happy with burned bras, but not quite ready or comfortable with a woman President (or maybe it's just Hillary). So much the pity!

Chris Matthews tries to be unbiased, sometimes more than others, but the fact is he is a Republican and he can't help himself, despite his former speech-writer job for Jimmy Carter. By his own admission he says things like, "Not among the crowd I hang out with." Well, therein lies the rub! He only hangs out with Republicans and therefore doesn't as often hear really well-informed, equally intelligent Democrats answer and explain as often. And then there's the network's producers's influence. The producers of Hardball usually set up a 3 to 1 ratio of Republicans to Democrats in their "roundtable" discussions and they usually don't choose a really knowledgable Democrat, or they at least cut off the Dem's. answer before the point is made. I watch Hardball everyday and I have seen this occur hundreds of times over the last 7 years. (I will include the time when Bush was still campaigning.)

The so-called politcal pundits speak with this Republican bias freely and frequently on MSNBC, where Chuck Todd is the chief NBC Political Director he participates in this bias instead of trying to keep matters fair and balanced.

Chris is conflicted about Hillary. He hangs out with only Hillary-haters and speaks with eagerness and delight about discovering what vulnerabilities could defeat her and after hearing her answer exceptionally well on an issue he says, "I'm warming up to Hillary these days."

I cannot leave these comments without pointing out that Joe Biden and Chris Dodd were not asked to give their answer re: would they be for or against building "new" nuclear power plants as part of their plan for becoming energy independent. To me, this is an essential question for any presidential candidate because of the grave risks associated with possible nuclear proliferation, and "dirty bombs." Then, just as important is the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste storage facility which is enourmously, ginormously expensive and is found to be on an earthquake fault line, meaning it is not safe, afterall. I believe that 235,000 years is the radioactive half-life of uranium 235 and some of the other nuclear waste by-products. Meaning, the nuclear industry believes humans can safely store the stuff for 235,000 years???, barring anything that Mother Earth or the rest of the universe could bring??? Unfortunately, there is a ginourmous amount of misinformation widely distributed by the nuclear industry everywhere one looks if one bothers to learn and do independent fact-cheking.

I nearly fell over when Mathews criticized her for saying "you'll have to ask my husband" in response to a question about Bill Clinton's chartiable foundation. He compared it to someone calling and a wife saying the same thing. NOT. Bill is an adult and he can answer for his own actions with respect to an organization he runs.

That's like Mathews asking me to explain why my husband made a certain decision at work. Sorry but I'd give Hillary's answer. If Mathews asked my husband something about my work, he'd be told "ask my wife."

I also thought it a glaring ommission, unfair and dismissive for Chris Matthews and Tim Russert not to give credit where credit it due to Sen. Joe Biden for all his hard work and expertise on the independent commission years ago that came up with a solvency solution for entitlement programs like social security and medicare.

Biden finally got to say, "I was there" and he was part of that solution.
This is the same solvency solution that Pres. 'W' negated by his fast and loose trade bills with China and others that have created the enormous trade deficit, trampled the U.S. dollar destroyed our manufacturing base of jobs through outsourcing, and that squandered the healthy budget surplus that the sound fiscal policies (according to former Chairman Greenspan) of Pres. Bill Clinton had brilliantly created. Anyone what say what they want about Bill's human foibles in marriage, and, of course, no one should ever commit perjury, although it did pay off for Libby, but Pres. Bill Clinton did more to create jobs, growth, and a strong economy than any other single president. According to Greenspan, Pres. Clinton understood economics well.

And what about the 3 to 1 bi-parisan passage of Biden's Amendment which creates the framework for political and economic reconcilitation in Iraq!!!! That is huge! No one even seems to notice it.

Me, too. It is the ultimate gesture of respect to defer to the person for whom the question is asked, and not to answer for someone else. I thought she was quick-witted and respectful to her former president husband to let him answer for himself, while implying I'm here so ask your questions of me.

MSNBC has had enough to answer for it appears. David Schuster,who IS a reporter and not a ''commentator'',acted like one this week when he tried to nail a Tennessee GOP congresswoman with a ''gotcha''question in accusing her of not knowing the name of the most recent soldier in Iraq to die from her district,which he provided. The only problem was that the soldier was not from her district at all. Thus the sneering Schuster was made to retract his ''Faux''news moment and grudgingly ''apologized''as if the action was like removing a railroad spike from his backside.Ye gods. The more these people aspire to grasp the mantle of Ed Murrow,the more they come out like Alfred E.Newman.

To Gary,
I admire your observations but, the thing that I am referring to is when he plays sound bites and clips of hillary saying things like "I am your girl" and makes it to be a major point se scored in the debate. If he wants to do that, it fine but we have to respect our laws of equal time of the presidential candidates.

I know I am from Kentucky and the mountains and am not suppose to know anything, but I've been keeping score. I have been right on critical issues more often than the so called experts. The experts predict a win for Hillary or perhaps Obama. I have nothing against either..except neither can win the general election and their attempt to do so will bring about a huge divide in this country..not because of gender or race, but because of the baggage Hillary carries and the lack of any for Obama. Listen democrats, we must win back the White House. John Edwards can unite people across this country on the issues. He is REAL. He has the correct message and a near flawless background. If Hillary or Obama were to get the nomination the Carl Rove wanabes of the republican party would literally pee their pants as they jumped for joy because of the easy targets either of them would make. Let's look responsibly for a general election winner. I personally Want John Edwards for his message, his character and his electibility. A thought for a good ticket...Edwards/Biden.
