I saw a Dr. R.P. banner this morning on an overpass. I couldn't figure out as I passed it by, why the letter "L" was backwards. So, I googled it, and it is the word "LOVE" spelled backwards, but I'm not really sure how that fits with the Ron Paul campaign. I'm just glad it wasn't graffiti. I've been seeing a lot of Ron Paul signs around my town this morning. I didn't have a clue who he was so I am checking the internet and came across this article. I've been a Republican for 20+ years but I stopped voting because the party just seemed like it always brought us bigger government, more taxes and programs and had little difference from the left. I hate that we are in an expensive and deadly war that has no clearly defined goal or end in sight. Yet I sense from the news that they will expand this war into Iran! I couldn't believe that even the democrats won't end the war and I feel like I need to find another option.

Ron Paul sounds like a good candidate so far, but I'm wondering about his positions on domestic issues. Thanks to the other comments which gave some links - I'll check those out. I won't be voting for anyone unless I can find a candidate that will lower taxes for regular working people and have a plan to bring stability to the dollar. I'm worried the government is getting authoritarian over security after 9/11 and all the candidates I see on TV seem like they will just make matters worse. If this guy can do just those things I mentioned above he's got my vote for sure!

No emergency room care for those without medical insurance. I certainly agree with Dr Ron Paul's war stance, but I have to say that I disagree that he is a substitute for a democrat (which is probably a good thing). I do, however, have concerns regarding Paul's tax policy (less is nice, but it isn't always right, and less is not always better). I also have concerns over a Ron Paul isolationalist foreign policy. It certainly won't help our standing in the world. Foreign policy, if used right, can strongly benefit our nation and other democratic allies.

Concerning taxes... Ron Paul knows that the most devestating tax on the poor and middle class is the hidden "inflation tax." Noticed the price of bread and milk recently? (The Fed conveniently omits food and other essentials from their bogus inflation figures.) The upshot is that cuts in direct taxes must not be funded with deficits, which produce inflation. Taxes can be cut drastically, but only if government spending is cut drastically. First step: Bring the boys and girls home to protect us here, not over there.

I'm just saying that I think that a lot of what Dr. Paul says is nice in theory, but would fail miserably when practiced, and would be yet another wrong direction for our country. It's just my opinion, and I wanted to break up the R.P. lovefest.

I think, in reality, that his campaign has benefited from the lack of media coverage and the negatives that come with it. Everything I have heard from the media on him is his enormous online support and that it would have been of interest had he done better at the Iowa straw poll. Ron Paul's views on gun rights are too extreme. Why would he be against mandatory trigger locks on guns? Yet he's all about babies and kids health. Well trigger locks make it a lot safer for kids health. So his position makes me know he is owned by the gun lobby folks. I am against him then.

Many of the posters are lauding MSNBC for their "excellent" and "fair" reporting on Ron Paul. Don't be so quick to praise MSNBC, particularly their political branch under the direction of Chuck Todd.

MSNBC's political reporting is generally abysmal. It is easier to find out from an MSNBC piece what kind of toilet paper Fred Thompson prefers than where he stands on critical issues - like monetary policy or our current energy crisis.

Indeed, Dr. Paul is America's last hope to remain a free republic. It is time for a proverbial tea party in '08.

Still, they cannot resist insinuating he doesn't have a chance disguised in a question about Howard Dean. And I would put money on the guess that 800 is a low figure for how many were actually there.

I've lost all faith in the MSNBC reporting team, particularly Chuck Todd and Mark Murray. If they can't cover a political race better than this, they should be fired.

Take this one article in isolation, it's not bad, but take all the other Ron Paul articles put out by these people and their repeated marginalization of Dr. Paul and their failure becomes apparent.

Here's another inconvenient factoid for you: fully one half of those who voted for Bush in 2004 are against the Iraq War. How would a Bush clone stand a chance against these numbers?

The only way a Republican can win is if the candidate is anti-war. Ron Paul would draw many crossover votes from the Dems and independents. The way I see things, we can choose between Ron Paul or get Hillary/Obama. Whom would you prefer?

This is why I support Ron Paul:

There are three things about present day America that I find FRIGHTENING (I'm not sure which is most frightening):

1. Our failed, imperialistic, foreign policy: The Iraq war is only the most visible part of the problem. We have troops in I-don't-know-how-many countries world wide. Bush and his cronies talk about promoting "democracy," but before he decided to grab Kuwait the US strongly supported Saddam. We have also regularly supported a long list of repressive regimes: the Shah of Iran, the current Saudi government, who knows how many African and South American war lords, etc. Lets face it. Most of the world hates us. Terrorism is simply a by-product of our own foreign policy. Every time an Iraqi child is killed with the US occupying the country - regardless of whether we had anything to do with the death - more hatred is generated and more Islamics volunteer or give money to the terrorists. I cannot support a presidential candidate who does not offer a fundamental change of our foreign policy. Ron Paul will bring all the troops home, stop policing the world, and stop meddling in other country’s affairs.

2. National debt: the official debt is approaching $9 trillion dollars, but if you add in the amounts that the government is supposedly committed to pay out in entitlement programs, such as social security and medicare, the debt is over $50 trillion. The situation is absolutely unsustainable. If spending is not controlled, we are facing either massive default by the government or Weimar Republic style inflation. I am frightened that the result will be a depression that makes the 1930s look prosperous. Most of the Republican candidates talk about controlling spending and balancing the budget but, in practice, they spend, spend, spend. The Democratic candidates hardly mention the problem and propose massive new spending. I cannot support a presidential candidate who will not downsize the federal government and drastically cut spending. Ron Paul is the only candidate has proposed eliminating entire government departments. He is serious about smaller government.

2. The Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, etc.: Using 9/11 and the terrorists that our own foreign policy has generated as an excuse, the Bush administration has essentially repealed the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments and the habeas corpus clause of the Constitution. The government admits that it is engaged in internet spying, wiretaps, and in some cases, physical searches without probable cause or a warrant. People are being held in cognito, without trial or even indictment. They are denied legal counsel and are not permitted to bring a writ of habeas corpus. The general public seems to believe that only persons of Arabic decent are affected, but the possibility of this being extended to political dissenters is frightening. The German public of the early 1930s thought only Jews were affected. I cannot support a presidential candidate who will not restore the Bill of Rights. Ron Paul was one of the few Republicans to vote against the Patriot Act. He is pledged to uphold the Constitution, not destroy it.

The oft quoted "freedom and rights" message is clearly one that is misunderstood in this country. Universal healthcare is not a right. Federally-funded education is not a right. Personal safety from criminals, throught the "protection" of government agents is not a right. Freedom from standing armies is a right. Freedom from unreasonable or arbitrary police conduct is a right. Freedom to keep and bear arms, in case one needs to overthrow his own government, is also a right.

This country has deviated, through the vehicle of massive government spending programs, from these basic tenets of our republic. Consider the simple fact that most people erroneously believe that America is a democracy. It is not. America is a republic because a democracy was considered as specious as a monarchy. In fact, democracies were considered to be "tyranny by the majority." A representative form of government, in the form of a republic, was considered the best construct. And it still is. But try telling that to the average, mindless American who spends more hours in front of his television than in front of history books. Our entertainment and culture is base and it is reflected in our foolish wars with countries many thousands of miles away. Yet none of the media-darling candidates speak about these issues in their campaigns. Ron Paul does. What good will universal healthcare do you if it is forced on you by an armed government agent? What good will federally-funded entitlement programs do you if the dollar is worthless; if every aspect of our lives is viewed by a remote surveillance camera? According to the express definition of the word, who is the real "terrorist." One who uses lethal force, against the clear mandates of the Constitution, the supreme law of the land, to intimidate others, inflict suffering, and enforce his arbitrary will against others? Think about the mantra of terrorism tempered by what we know about Nazi propaganda. Tell a lie big enough and long enough, and the people will believe it. The notion of a "never ending, global war on terorism" calls to mind George Orwell's "1984." A lie told to the people every day to justify the endless increases in defense spending to the ultimate ruin of our republic. A lie told to justify global, hegemonic domination. A lie. Our military industrial complex -- the manifestation of the ultimate evil, our own ignorance of history and righteousness.

Ron Paul represents the light -- a breath of truth in a lie-obsessed country. That's why he will get my vote.

Ron Paul is the only person running for President that will get the U.S. out of the Iraq mess quickly. The others I have all seen either support the Iraq mess or balk at doing anything real (clinton, obama). For those that dont like Dr. Pauls domestic policy but want us out of Iraq, dont worry about it unless you fear your congressional representatives might do whatever the president wants. Dr. Paul will quickly end the war through executive power and will take the heat for whatever happens in Iraq after. A lot of the comments here seem to be from people who expect the government to take care of everyone. But, to do that, they have to tax everyone heavily. That hurts the poor and middle class the most. When rich people get taxed heavily all they have to do is raise the prices of whatever product or service they provide, so that kind of tax doesn't help anyone really. The Federal Reserve prints more money but that just creates inflation which again, hurts the lower classes more because now it takes more dollars to buy the same amount of bread. More government is only going to make it worse. Some people think that we just need GOOD government. But we only have two winning parties and they are very similar in their tax and spend ways, just on different things that make it harder for all of us in one manner or another. When was the last time the Democrats repealed a law from Republicans or the last time the Republicans repealed a law from the Democrats? They never do, they just keep piling on alternating what to spend on.

Ron Paul wants to cut wasteful agencies that states and localities already provide, like the Dept of Education. Who does the Fed Govt teach? No one! States and school districts do that.

The right to bear arms means we all have a right to protect ourselves because the police only show up after the fact to hopefully catch a criminal. But they can't PREVENT crimes. Criminals will not use their trigger locks. An armed citizenry protects itself, learns how to properly handle weapons of all kinds. I know how to use my kitchen knife because when I was a kid my parents taught me the use and danger of one. Same goes for all weapons. Instead of teaching kids what a gun will do, parents hide them so when a 5 year old finds it he ahs no idea it is dangerous. Learn for yourself and then educate others! And it costs nothing!

Private orgs like the Red Cross are far more beneficial and efficient than FEMA and other government agencies. Let us not be taxed so heavily so we can give to charities we respect and need in our communities. Or let local governments decide what is best for Your City, USA.

Ron Paul recognizes the faults of big government and the benefits of personal responsibility, local government, unfettered market capitalism, and consumer group protection rather than bought and paid for govt officials.

The federal government has proven itself incapable of good money management, and permitting politicians and bureaucrats to make investment decisions would result in unscrupulous lobbying for venture capital. Large campaign contributors and private interests of every conceivable type would seek to have their favored investments approved by the government. In a free market, an underperforming or troubled company suffers a decrease in its stock price, forcing it either to improve or lose value. Wary investors hesitate to buy its stock after the price falls. If a company successfully lobbied Congress, however, it would enjoy a large investment of your tax dollars. This investment would cause an artificial increase in its stock price, deceiving private investors and unfairly harming the company's honest competition. Government-managed investment of tax dollars in the private market is a recipe for corruption and fiscal irresponsibility."

It's really interesting to me that Ron Paul generates a similar type of excitement to that generated by Obama. Although I am not as anti-federal government as is Dr. Paul, his stance on the war and his integrity (he is fearlessly opposing this war in the hostile environment of the Bush Republican party) warrent a great deal of admiration. Without a doubt, he is the only Republican for whom I would vote and if HRC is the Democratic nominee, I would seriously consider casting my vote for him - even though I don't like the idea of third party candidates (but he most definitely has my vote if he were to be the Republican nominee against HRC). Still Obama is my man, and I think that Hillary's infallibility has peaked. I think that Edwards (sadly for him) will fail in Iowa and his support will go to Obama. My prediction for the Republicans is that McCain will ultimately emerge victorious because of his compelling story. Still, three cheers for Ron Paul and his honesty and for his recognition (against adversity) that this war in Iraq was a terrible mistake. And if he did become president, I know that (in spite of my differences with him politically) he would restore honor to the office and to this country.

Let's compare numbers between Manchester NH and NYC. We can assume that non-residents of both cities came to the two rallies, but there is no way to measure that, so let's assume by percentage it's a wash.

800 people showed up for Ron Paul in a city of one hundred thousand population. 24,000 showed up For Barak Obama in a city of 8 million.

Obama drew 0.3% of the population in NYC. Paul drew 0.8% of Manchester's population. Barak, and all of the other candidates, can, indeed, only dream of drawing that kind of number.

I was at the Ron Paul Family Walk. I am absolutely sure that there were more than 800 people there. It was closer to 1,200. The number they got was based on the people who registered to canvass. However, if multiple people came in one car, then only one registered. Also, there were many who held sign waves instead of canvassing. In short, the campaign grossly underestimated the turnout.

Well Bryan T., all you have to do, in order to answer your own questions, is go to Ron Paul's website. That's where you will see the answers to your questions. If Dr.Paul is stating the obvious, then why are so many americans oblivious to the obvious. Do away with the Federal Reserve(not a part of the federal government, such as Federal Express) and you will solve many of the problems americans face. Do away with the IRS which is, by many researchers, a private company/entity based out of Puerto Rico.?. Regardless of the IRS's legality or jurisdiction, the sixteenth amendment is bogus at best which the IRS claims gives it the authority to collect taxes from your wages...twice. Now we are solving problems. The answer is not Ron Paul......but the constitution of the united states of america(capatilization correct) which Dr. Paul uses as his guiding principle. Ron Paul seems like a true voice of reason to me, a lifelong Democrat. I can't believe the abuses the current administration is getting away with--and how they justify these abuses with their various lies.

It comes down to this. Self interest is the distinguishing characteristic between a statesman and a politician. A Statesman has none but duty, while the politician sees no duty but self interest. What's interesting is that a statesman's duty is to preserve and protect the commercial environment to allow his constituents to advance their own self interest (pursuit of happiness), while in order for the politician to advance his own self interest, he must strive to instill a duty in his constituents to work harder for less reward (in the name of patriotism) so that his own self interests can be fulfilled. The statesman works to maintain the Republic and individual liberty while the politician, must, as a matter of necessity, migrate to total control of the people to nurture his own self interests which leaves the people with anyone of a number of despotic forms of government. Take you choice, autocratic, communism, democracy, fascism, feudalism, there's no major difference. Each is a two (2) class system, serfs and masters (read aristocracy). The average citizens are simply serfs on the land. The only differences are technical among the various structures of an aristocracy, and are only studied by those concerned about how many angels dance on the head of a pin. They must all oppress the people for the sake of the leaders/aristocracy. So it simply boils down to only two forms of government determined by whether we allow politicians to run our governing body or demand statesman to do so!

Ron Paul is the first true Statesman I have witnessed in my 70 plus years.

I have always voted democrat because Republicans just take care of corporations and the rich, but that is no longer the case since democrats and republicans are pretty much owned by the same people-- EXCEPT Ron Paul, who is the ONLY candidate who should become president this election. All the rest are Demublicans, and I want to thank you guys for covering Ron Paul at least a little. The mainstream media is shafting him good because he isn't a monied insider. I think he can win in spite of how big business and the media fight against him.

You're in luck then, because I think Ron Paul is the only one that meets those criteria.

TAXES: Ron Paul wants to flat-out abolish the IRS. This seems extreme to many people, and while I like the idea, it did to me too. Once I looked into it, though, it didn't, and I'll tell you why. First, most services you and I care about (fire/police services, schools, roads) are paid for by local and state taxes. Second, income tax is only 1/3 of the federal government's income. Finally, every estimate I've seen indicates the government could comfortably operate at that level by returning to 1999 or 2000 spending levels. I'm sure that many of us could easily cut back spending to 7 years ago if we really needed to.

Now, in the meantime, Dr. Paul has made a number of efforts to reduce the practical effect of the tax code on working citizens. No, not reduced capital gains tax, but legislation like the Tax Free Tips Act which would allow service workers to keep all of their tips.

DOLLAR STABILITY: Ron Paul has consistently questioned the Federal Reserve on its policies of secrecy and unchecked inflation. Ron Paul proposes that the Federal Reserve be removed and that we move to an asset-backed currency. This would prevent inflation from stealing the salaries and savings of citizens.

Ron Paul is the only candidate addressing these issues substantively.

I donated twice during this fundraiser. Those both count for the only two times I've ever donated politically.
I even helped do some canvassing, which is not my bag at all. The freedom message is contagious.

I will support Ron Paul to the end no matter if others think or say "I'm throwing away my vote". Getting Ron Paul elected is important to me but I carry it a bit further than that by looking for a candidates on the local level that also support these views and will support him once he takes office. What I think would help get Ron elected is information that will explain how Ron's ideas will work. If someone could gather together the reasons most people have for not voting for Ron and give solid information on how a Ron Paul presidency would deal with the issues presented by their reasons then I think we could gain even more support for him. For instance if the IRS is abolished how will you pay for the services these taxes fund. These will need to be solutions that will alleviate the doubts that are represented by these reasons. Keeping it simple as possible would be best. IF someone has already done something like this, sharing it with other Ron Paul supporters would help in getting more people involved in getting him elected. When I talk to others I ask who they think will get elected and who they support. I ask them what is the downside of the person they support since most people don't agree with all the views of a candidate. I then tell them I support Ron Paul and that they might go to his website and see if he is more in line with their thoughts on that subject. So far it has worked pretty good. I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions to be posted so others could here could be more instrumental in getting Ron elected. GO RON GO!!!

It is fundamentally unfair to give benefits to anyone who has not paid into the system. The Social Security for Americans Only Act (H.R. 190) ends the drain on Social Security caused by illegal aliens seeking the fruits of your labor.

We must also address the desire of younger workers to save and invest on their own. We should cut payroll taxes and give workers the opportunity to seek better returns in the private market.

Excessive government spending has created the insolvency crisis in Social Security. We must significantly reduce spending so that our nation can keep its promise to our seniors.

I think one of the reasons Ron Paul supporters are SO excited, passionate and willing to write post after post talking about and defending his freedom message is because, unlike all of the other candidates, his positions, his ideas, and his message are SOO well documented! He hides nothing, you know exactly where he stands on everything if you just take the time to simply research. He has 20 years of articles he's written on every issue imaginable, years and years of weekly broadcasts to his constituents that are archived, books he's written about several topics, and more youtube videos than any one person could watch. There is no confusion over where he stands today versus 10 or 20 years ago, because he's saying the same things today that he said 10 and 20 years ago. Consistancy is his middle name. Integrity is his middle name. He is an open book, the way our public servants should be, making it VERY easy to talk and defend his message of Constitutional government to any and all who have yet to understand it. He is like NO OTHER in my lifetime!

Actually BrianT, you're wasting YOUR time trying to discourage Ron Paul supporters. We know he can win, and we're gonna fight to the bitter end to make sure that he does win, you see, we're not interested in voting for the "winner", we're gonna vote for the candidate we BELIEVE in. Just looking at all the support Ron Paul is getting from people in other countries (22 foreign Meetup groups, so far) should make you Americans aware that you have a very special candidate in this fine man. As a Canadian who had an American mother, the Ron Paul candidacy is the first thing that has come along in my 57 years that has made me wish she had never left the U.S. because I would love to be down there helping to get him elected. The fact that people are so passionate about an elderly gentleman doctor and congressman should make everyone see that, as he so modestly asserts, it's not him, it's the message - Freedom is popular!

IF you had to choose over liberty or free medical care which would you choose? You can't have everything people. You will get more out of RON PAUL Than you will any other candidate. The others just talk and give out a rebate check when you re-elect them. They can shove their checks and give me my Freedom! I refuse to watch the news because I get sick when I see those FAKE-ASS puppets getting all the attention. Sorry for the rant but I LOVE RON PAUL. I would love to know the taste of real freedom.

Where the hell can I join the Ron Paul campaign? This guy is the only hope to bring down the current power structure based which is based on absolute disregard for the middle and lower class. Do not fool yourself. If you think mainstream canidates give a @#$ about you or the country or any principle this country was based upon, you are extremely disillusioned. I was there once myself. Vote Ron Paul or wake up with chains around your wrists. Your captives?

Two things we need to do to help Ron Paul. Get regestered as a Republican ASAP. A lot of states are trying to close out Ron's supporters by requiring that they be registered to vote in their GOP primaries. Go registered! Second, all of us "little people" that have been abused and ignored by the rest of the field need to support him with our dollars. Ron needs an eye popping 15 million + raised in the 4th quarter! I plan to contribute something out of every pay check I get from here on out. Everyone can give a little....we have to do our part so he can do his! God bless Ron Paul!!!

I've been a libertarian for 27 years and have been waiting for this moment when the American people WAKE UP that the Demopublicans and the Republicrats all offer the same dismal failure of a future. It's interesting when you read about Ron Paul's positions. They have been the same for decades. He does not "position" himself like every other candidate; none of that focus group nonsense. For those saying Dr. Paul hasn't offered solutions to our problems, he is the only candidate that is offering solutions!

1. Get our of Iraq
2. Stop policing the world with 130 bases, we can't afford it and we are going broke trying to police the world.
3. End the Social Security program requirement of young people paying into it. Fund it for those who have to use it, but give the young a better choice.
4. End the IRS, Federal Reserve control of our money, the Federal education department, and a plethora of other programs that don't work, and are costing billions.
5. Limit what government does to what the constitution says it should do, and let the states ie. the people handle the rest!
