The comparison with Lincoln may be well intentioned but is not historically accurate. Lincoln suspended habeus corpus, imprisoned his opponents in the northern press, deported an Ohio congressman for openly criticizing him on the floor of the House, unleashed federal troops on draft protestors in New York City, imposed an income tax and declared war on his own country. A Bush Lincoln comparison would be more appropriate.

Thank you for admitting that a Hillary presidency will result in a "Nanny" state in which the government is responsible for taking care of every little thing we do. As you mentioned, Hillary will make sure Jerry's diaper is changed and he is fed his nightly bottle. Out of curiosity for the rest of us who believe in personal responsibility and accountability, what should we do when she is elected? Give up our individual thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams just so Big Sister Hillary can take care of us? No thank you. I actually think this country would be better off if the federal government had less power than it does today. I understand that Bush has done a decent job at expanding the government, but I am just sick to my stomach at the thought of the socialistic state Hillary will inevitably attempt to create.

I did some reading at the Ron Paul library website, and he comes across as a populist telling people what they want to hear. There is more than a bit of self-contradiction there.

One example is he opposes abortion, but also opposes the most effective methods to prevent abortions. People that don't get pregnant don't have abortions.

Another is that his proposed solutions to most problems, including health care, is to issue tax breaks. But he also advocates eliminating income taxes, which renders his proposed tax cuts useless.

He wants to balance the budget and pay down the national debt, good, though that promise has been routinely violated by Republicans. His plans to cut unecessary spending is good, but insufficient to balance his planned massive tax cuts, so uner his program deficit spending would continue.

Colleen, you obviously don't know anything about Goldwater if you equate him in any way to Reagan. Reagan was a big government, big deficit Republican...just like Duh-Bya Bush and now "Flip-Flop" Freddie Thompson.

Reagan funded the mujahideen, which became Al Qeada, which attacked us on 9/11. We need another Reagan like we need a another hole in NYC.

BTW, I encourage everyone to rediscover the soul of the GOP. Start with their poster boy, Larry Craig. An extreme whitey tighty Rightie closeted homosexual in denial. THAT is the best definition of the GOP I've ever seen.

Dobson's Focus on the Family is affiliated with the Family Institute, one of the Conservative groups Romney doled out 100's of 1000's of dollars to, just before his campaign, (who Romney had never "contributed" to in the past, nor any groups like this)who criticized Romney's liberal stand as MA gov, but since donation has shown Romney support.

The only candidate in the GOP that will stand against Hillery is one who can garner swing votes from the Democratic Party and who will garner the majority of the Independant voters. The GOP has lost a good part of its base and is a weak party because of the disgraceful president we have.

There is only one GOP candidate who will win against Hillery and that is Ron Paul. The only point that Hillery stands on that may pull voters is her promise of universal health care that many people seem to think will work. Ron Paul is a medical doctor himself and an absolute expert when it comes to Constitutionality of things. He has the first hand experience that can expose why this would be very bad for America and drive up health care costs even more and put our taxes through the roof to afford it.

Rebums need a real live american to run in their party. the base wants a Jesus with conservative credentials, neo-cons want a Joseph Stalin with sex appeal, fiscal cons want an Allen Greenspan with face appeal, small gov. cons want a candidate that will work part-time and that is why the dems will win in 08. You can't get what you want when there is a standard of appeal that makes the candidate a many faced appratus for too many conflicting views. We Democrats take our candidates with warts and all, we know they are just as human as we are and understand this. Rebumplikans want a demi-god to worship. This will be the beginning of the end for the GOP, the party is fractured and falling apart everyday. George Bush got his revenge for how the rebums left his old man blowing in the wind.
