While I was unable to watch the debate, it seems that the GOP has not learned from the Dem's own prior mistakes. You can't run a campaign just bashing the opposing party's front-runner without any real message, policy, and plan to fix this very broken nation. The Republicans will self-destruct once they nominate his Rudeness Rudey Rudilani who will make the biggest mistake by doing nothing but running a mudslinging campaign the likes of which the nation has not seen since, well, since he last ran for mayor, and the time before that was, well, when he first ran for mayor! The rest of this country does not know [but they are getting a tast of it now] that Rudey is notoriously nasty when it comes to campaigning.

I like Paul and feel he's the best prospect for president. However, lets take a realistic look at this issue. The superficial world of today has turned the selection of a candidate into a popularity contest; the smoothest, slickest, with an art for cutting opponents is the one who will get the nomination, likely. Their playbook is out of Machiavelli's The Prince.

Before I digress too much, what I believe my point is, is that Ron Paul needs to embellish, to inject some human aspect into his answers, and not come off as some academic. In many of his answers, he doesn't use all the time allowed him. Like it or not politics IS a popularity contest with some measure of substance.

Some thoughts about last night's debate from a bleeding heart liberal:

1. The closest thing yet to a real debate on the Republican side. I actually thought it was somewhat informative.
2. Tom Tancredo needs a medication adjustment and instructions on how to withdraw from the race.
3. Duncan Hunter insulted the intelligence of the voters he was trying to reach.
4. Ron Paul needs to work on a less frenzied delivery of an interesting message. Why is he a republican anyway?
5. John McCain appeared to be in control of his message and delivery.
6. Rudy Giuliani is shameless in his use of information and misinformation in pushing his candidacy.
7. Mike Huckabee and Sam Brownback were both dignified in their discussion of the issues. To be honest, they are probably the most decent candidates the republicans have.
8. Mitt Romney was awful. Rehearsed, smarmy, uninformed, and pathetic in his responses to attacks.
9. Fred Thompson surprised me with his ability to manage the debate process.

10. Moderators did a good job.

But what do I know, I voted for McGovern in '72, lol.

I don't think there was a winner because they clearly sit out to spend the time attacking each other to keep from addressing matters that really count. If each had been required to submit the in writing their detailed solution to ending the Iraq war, their medicare plan(wehter to stop paying part of the premium for seniors), the social security cuts or increases, education(stop forcing schools to preach abstinance to receive federal monies but instead tell kids them about condome and protect them from HIV/AIDS to save their lives and cut down medical cost).
My main question to everyone but especially Republicans is the following: How can you possibly consider a person like Giuliani, or even allow to run, for the highest position in this country, "President" when his has no "moral values"? This "low life" moved his "hoar" into the mayor's residence while his wife was still in residence, and paraded his prostitute around the city as if she were the "first lady". Oh yes, she was and is a "lady", but not the first lady more like a lady of the evening(bought and paid for probably with city tax money). The low life would continue this type of activity once elected in full view of the entire world just to prove he is the "man in charge". The Republican party is known for their double standard. We've all seen time and time again how they will distorte the truth to suit themselves. They are known a world class liars, backstabbing, will talk out of both sides of their mouth with their hand on the Bible,will change the rules,will minipulate the truth, lie for the current President, and is nothing wrong with setting aside the constitution. Remember their witch hunt of Bill Clinton for his so called involvement with the hoar Monica Lud-witch-ski? How the Republicans, even those with hoars of their one at home (Gingrich,Hall and others)wanted to far and feather Mr Clinton and then run him out of town.Remember the congressman from Louisana caught with frozen bribe money in his freezer during the New Orleans hurricaine? How much more double standard can you get ? Frankly I'm sick and tired of it and am praying for an honest election, that isn't bought by friends/family and that doesn't require buying the Supreme Court. Is it too much to hope for? The government of the USA is the Constitution, the supreme Law of the Land. Therefore, any residents of the United States who are not Constitutionalists are not U.S. citizens and should move elsewhere.

Any citizen who, having sworn a binding oath of allegiance to the Constitution, takes that oath as a mere formality without believing in or intending to obey it, perjures that oath and literally forfeits, at that moment, the position for which the oath was taken.

Any public servant/government official/politician/etc. who scoffs at the Constitution and Constitutional adherence, and/or mocks those who do, or who abrogates, violates, subverts, ignores and/or promulgates unconstitutional and nonconstitutional policies, laws, and agendas not only perjure their oath and vacate their position, but diminish and weaken our supreme Law thus giving aid and comfort to our enemies, foreign and domestic.

Each of the current Presidential candidates, Republican and Democrat alike, have taken that oath of allegiance to the Constitution. Only one candidate out of them all has been loyal to his oath of office and proposes Constitutional solutions, policies and law. That, of course, is Cong. Ron Paul.

He manifested his patriotism once again last night when he countered Mr. Romney's statement about checking with lawyers before deciding to attack another nation. Dr. Paul was the only champion of the Constitution on stage last night. The rest, who have all spouted off unconstitutional and nonconstitutional policies, laws, and agendas, and have even violated, abrogated, subverted, ignored and scoffed at Constitutionality are, in reality, ineligible to run for or be a President of the United States.

Either the Constitution for the United States of America is still in force or it's been dissolved. There's no in-between. Ron Paul is the only presidential candidate who believes that the Constitution is still in force!

I lived in New York during his term as Mayor and was amazed how involved he was with every situation, he was on the radio taking calls from callers with ideas to improve the city, he was shown on the news at all major or minor events, if there was something going on he was there, he never stopped working for NY, I have never seen such dedicated Mayor! Lets call this a test. I have just viewed the results of the MSNBC Republican Presidential Debate opinion polls and only one canidate has overwhelmingly been selected as the people's choice. Why is it that the online community's collective opinion of a presidential canidate is scoffed at by mainstream media and disregarded as irrelevant, yet these same media corporations invest many millions of dollars to know our opinions when it comes to what we think of their products? Why such a difference of treatment of opinion? The reason is due to how we as a collective are valued by corporate interests,mostly as potential consumers of a product and not so much as contributing voices in a free republic.

Hi Debbie, friendly give and take here, thanks. You are right, these are just opinions and we are entitled to them.
I lived in NYC half my life and was working in the city while he was the mayor. My concerns lie with his unwillingness or inability to corrall an out-of-control NYPD that resulted in unnecessary deaths and immeasurable human rights violations. I don't understand why he is given such great credit for helping the city and country get back on its feet after 9/11. While I gotta hand it to him for delivering some powerful speeches in the aftermath of the attack, especially when compared to those of the president or the nitwit governor, that's all they were - speeches. It seemed that his biggest concern was jump starting the NYC tourism industry again. How does this make him the GOP's leading expert on homeland security? His taking such great credit for the reduction in crime in the city is also dishonest, given that similar reductions were occurring throughout the entire country. His suggestion that own his term be extended was also a red flag. When you strip away his 9/11 "credentials", what's left? A liberal who turned conservative once he was out of office in a liberal city. And I would suggest he is the leading candidate because the rest of the republican field is not so great, and because he is beginning to run an effective campaign against Clinton.
