Why would be bother to subject himself again to the combination marathon/meat grinder that is a presidential campaign? Why would he subject himself to having pundits recycle the same old lies that, "Al Gore claims to have invented the internet!" He never made that claim, but that never stopped the noise machine from spewing it over and over again like some ill individual contending with a prolonged bout of projectile vomiting. A Gore campaign would certainly be interesting. It would almost surely turn into a debate on the accuracy of his claims for global warming. (Other recent news: a judge in England ruled that a number of the claims in Gore's movie are factually insupportable) A Gore candidacy would place all of his claims on the line -- win, lose or draw. Mr. Gore must decide whether he will put his cause into play in a forum which has demonstrated in the past a marked inability to separate fact from hyperbole.

Sorry for all of you Gore lovers out there, but will NOT run for Pres, and here's why:

He's making more money than God right now and will continue to do so for some time.

He has much more freedom right now than any president or candidate to say and to do what wants and what he belives is the right thing.

Belive it or not, but he just may have almost as much influence as a President, at least in those limited areas in which he truly cares about, such as the environment.

He will not give all of this up for the pleasure of cleaning up after George Bush in Iraq. I'm not saying he couldn't win or wouldn't be a good presdient if he did, but what exactly is in it for him???

If Al Gore ran, it would quickly become obvious that he was not competitive. Even with the same starting line, he would not match up. Certainly he would not starting far behind. Ah, I see the extreme right has tired of abusing children and wounded vets and is happy to find a favorite old target back in the spotlight.
As usual the best of them twist facts or take them out of context, such as Don H's comment about the accuracy of An Inconvenient Truth.
Though an English judge stated some claims were unproven he also said the film "is substantially founded upon scientific research and fact" and ruled the points raised about the causes and likely effects of climate change were broadly accurate.
The worst of them are epitomized by someone like Zak Marsoli, who without a trace of irony suggests "the communist Democrat party shoulkd (sic) be banned, its candidates arrested" without considering that those are the very tactics used by the Stalinists and Nazis.

Though it's pretty clear President Gore isn't running in 2008 he would do a fine job in the Oval Office, certainly better than the boob a Supreme Coup D'etat put there in his place.

The 2008 nominating process is becoming so front loaded as state after state seeks to maximize expose and tourist revenue, the period of time in which the nominating process is essentially over before the political convention creates a new dynamic and a potential problem.

For the purpose of discussion, lets say Hillary Clinton wins the Democratic nomination by early February, five or six months before the Democratic convention. If anything were to happen to Ms. Clinton (or whoever is the prospective nominee) before the convention, the Party would likely turn to a statesman like Al Gore as it's standard bearer.

In all likelyhood, that is the only scenario in which Gore is like to run for President in 2008. As much as many of us would like to see Al become President (in part to get over remaining bitterness about 2000), he seems comfortable in his new roles and can accomplish much with being a Nobel Peace Prize winner and global warming activist.

There is really nothing we need to do about global warming anyway as long as we each maintain a carbon footprint the same as or smaller than Al Gore's.
