But, if you want to know my opinion, all of this Iran bulls**t is for two reasons, both of which are partisan:

1) If people are thinking a lot about Iran, they will be thinking less about Iraq. And that is an advantage for the Republicans.

2) If Bush scares enough people into thinking that we or our allies are in danger of being hit with a "nucular" missile from Iran, those people will be more likely to vote Republican in '08. I think this because, as incoherent as Bush's foreign policy has been, Republicans are still seen as strong on national security.

Personally, I am a little worried about Iran gaining the capability to produce "nucular" weapons. Not by 2008, but sometime in the relatively near future. I also think that part of Iran's reasoning is that they have no idea what the idiot in the White House will do, and they have no idea what our Congress will give him authorization for, so they want to be able to retaliate - or at least deter.

I don't think Bush will invade Iran by November 2008. I think he will try to scare people into electing a Republican. I hope it doesn't work. If it does, we are screwed. If it doesn't, I think we will actually be able to negotiate with Iran once we have someone in the White House who still has possession of their sanity.

Diplomatic relations refused...of course given the acidic environment, it's a catch 22. I would like to believe an administration has our best intentions in mind..but when it's based on solutions of perpetual warfare b/c you believe in eliminating every form of percieved evil..i can't support it. The only reason they haven't pushed it b/c of lack of American public support...but whenever they think they have 40-45%..who says they won't do it.

In particular the administration wants language that would clearly delineate that military action is an option if Iraq fails to comply. Although I'm not from the US I feel like I am more patriot to your country than many of the people writing on here. I agree that many things may not seem to be the best thing to do, but educate yourself on some of the countries the US is dealing with. The US is a oil hungry country and if the US does not have oil or if the cost for oil is to much, than every US citizens lives would change for the worse. Not to mention some of these countries increasingly show radical and extremist type behavior.

As for the whole war thing I personally think we are getting very close to WWIII which is a little freaky but I wouldn't be a bitch like most of you and not fight for my country. Your country is your home and you should fight to protect if even if that means economically.

Take a look at the strategic position the US has over Iran. The US has a perfect position to attack if needed. They can attack from the left (Iraq) and from the right (Afghanistan) as well as from below (Sea).

People compare the US as with ROME and how ROME fell. Well this comparison could be true, as all Empires eventually fall at some point.

The comments about the dollar declining well your just not educated on economics. If your dollar is very high than your exports are very low. If the dollar is low than your exports increase. A good business man knows when to speed up growth and to slow it down. In this case the US is on a slow down as to much growth is not always a good thing. Another benefit of having a lower dollar is the chance of local US jobs being out source decrease as the cost is almost equal now.

Well this is my rant and I hope some of you get some courage and start being more patriot to your own country. Again I'm not from your country yet I probably have showed more patriotism than most of you.

Many years ago I attended a junior college in the midwest. To my surprise I discovered that there were foreign students attending the same college even in the middle of the corn belt. Two Iranian students in particular became very good friends. They were much welcome members of my study group.

Our group did everything together. We met at each others houses for backyard barbeques and bull sessions. We took the same classes, prepared for the same exams, and sympathized with each other over the results. The two Iranians were good friends.

Then Iran took the hostages. My two friends prepared to return home, but before they left they stopped by to say good-bye. They told us that they were very happy to have met us and that our friendship was of value to them. Because of this, they were sure that the blessings they would receive from Allah would be immense when they put aside their personal feelings of caring and respect and returned to slaughter every one of us down to the last infant.

How does diplomacy deal with individuals who would kill you because they liked you? How does tolerance and forebearance handle those who believe that if they die while destroying us that they will be greatly rewarded? How do you face down anyone who excuses their own poor behavior by convincing themselves that they are acting on God's orders?

All I do know is that I waited for this war to break out for more than twenty-five years. Desert Storm was the beginning. Making friends and establishing friendly trade agreements aren't going to take away the danger. Our political leaders may be human, and they may make mistakes, but they are ours and in the face of the world I will support them. It beats hiding under the bed.
