I tend to think that most press conferences with the president and fema and the like tend to be fake even if they have real reporters there. The white house correspondents are people accepted by the white house to ask questions. If there is a real reporter asking tough questions he/she will be thrown out, not allowed to return or just simply ignored. Before those of you think I am blaming bush (who I believe should be impeached) it occurs in all presidency more or less. So with this conference it was fake but at least it was all up front and no pretense. Unlike some other new conferences I have seen.

FEMA’s fake 'news conference'

its about time some real questions were asked and not by the moron press...maybe they didn't have time to show up because they were out sticking microphones in faces of families that had someone killed and was asking them 'how do you feel'...anyone that supports this issue on the side of the press are MORONS DELUXE.

FEMA’s fake 'news conference'

Don't knock "firstread" without further reading/listening. Generally, they slant a little to the right, but that's fine with me. FEMA scores again, but what political party does not "swirl" the news to purposes which are quite obvious? The land of the "F" Fathers---to laugh would not be polite---is changing as the centuries pass.

Heckufajob blueie/reddie/brownie/pinky/whichever you prefer..
America --- Love it or leave it --- :)
FEMA’s fake 'news conference'

Perhaps you (openmind - minneapolis) could blame the Bush administration and his "No Child Left Behind" legislation for your highly educated control of the English language.

fokls (spelling)
any thing (one word)
ask (verb tense)
Sentences that ask questions end with one of these "?". All sentences end with at least a period.
teh (spelling)
SOme (capitalization issue)

Impressive piece of opinion you wrote. The National Press Club is the world's most prestigious association of professional journalists. The November 1st event is the 30th annual book fair and benefits the Eric Friedheim Journalism Library at the National Press Club.

Jeff Gannon, the first exclusively online reporter to cover the White House on a regular basis is considered a New Media pioneer. He notes that his daily readership of more than half a million topped the circulation of most newspapers, despite reporting for a small news outlet. Gannon points out that since his tenure at the White House nearly every news entity has launched an online presence.

Gannon chronicles his two years as a member of the White House Press Corps and reveals his role in the Valerie Plame affair and the scandal that toppled Dan Rather from the CBS News anchor chair as well as the historic defeat of Sen. Tom Daschle in 2004. He also offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the White House Press Corps, led by the legendary Helen Thomas.

Gannon weighs in on the left versus right, liberal versus conservative debate that he dubs "The Great Media War". He contends that the struggles between those opposing ideologies play themselves out on radio, television and in the newspapers every day and determine how news is reported. Gannon also sees the Internet as the next front in The Great Media War and discusses its effect on the future of journalism and news reporting.

Gannon writes about his experiences after asking one of the most famous questions ever posed by a reporter to a president. He explains "The Question" and speculates as to the reasons the reaction to it caused a nationwide sensation.

Gannon has something to say about nearly every member of the Beltway media establishment as well as many Washington politicians. His book is replete with evidence of pervasive liberal media bias well beyond the point of questioning whether or not it exists.

Does it require an advanced degree in rocket science?

NO!

All it requires is stepping backward a few paces and then examining the landscape from the perspective of objective reality . . .

Perhaps the problem is that few if any of our leaders were in the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts and simply never learned the "Be Prepared!" rule . . .

Or, it might be entirely the consequence of our great nation currently having a president who fell off a Segway personal transportation machine, a two-wheeled scooter designed by probably the greatest living inventor on the planet at the dawn of the early 21st century, an inventor who is bright enough to have designed and built a portable kidney dialysis machine approximately the size of a 12-pack of Coca-Cola and who devoted years to designing and building a two-wheeled scooter that even a complete idiot could use safely (at least in theory, based on the availability of complete idiots at the time pre-production testing was done) . . .

Connect the dots as is most logical based on the evidence . . .

It is wonderful that all the folks in Southern California are so optimistic about how their futures will unfold, but based on indisputable experience there will continue to be hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of newly homeless Southern Californians years from now, because the federal government is going to do pretty much the same thing it did for the 2005 hurricane season survivors, which basically is diddley squat . . .

Thanks!

FEMA’s fake 'news conference'

Fake reporters.... What will they think of next fixed voting machines? Big. Major. Problem. Inexcusable in a federal employee presenting information to ME whether I'm a democrat or republican. If they didn't have time to get reporters in, then they should have issued a disclaimer at the beginning of the presentation, indicating that they were going to conduct a scripted Q&A session in the FORMAT of a press conference, with paid employees answering the questions. ANYTHING LESS IS PRESENTING INFORMATION WITH THE INTENT TO DECEIVE. Which means that ANYTHING said in the session is open to doubt as to its truth. Because if they didn't have something to hide, why in the world would they have acted in such as bizarre fashion? I can't believe that the White House thinks we should be satisfied with a mere apology. Remember, people, these federal workers, from the president on down, are OUR EMPLOYEES. How would you feel if you knew that someone working directly for you, who was hired have an important meeting on behalf of your business, skirted that job, fabricated a meeting, and passed it off to you as real? This whole incident shows a shocking lack of respect for our intelligence, as well as a lack of respect for the place of honor we've given these people in our society. In an honorable society, a known liar who was unable or unwilling to do his job would be given the opportunity to resign from his post, and if the head of FEMA doesn't do just that, he ought to be publicly censured, by the president who hand-picked him, and then fired. Period. No matter which party you favor. This is not a partisan matter. Because it's not o.k. for your employees to lie to you. Ever. Especially not about matters of life and death for your fellow Americans.

FEMA’s fake 'news conference'

Of course they condoned it they invented this stuff. The FEMA director states the facts as he knows them and every idot in the country is ready to hang the guy. What difference does it realy make who asked the actuls question? These are the same questions that theyhad been getting phone calls about all week the answers would not have been any different no matter who had done the asking. As for New orlenes I for one realy don't think that sinking billions of my tax money into a city which is eight feet below sea leavel and five feet away from the sea is realy the most wise thing to do with it. Better that we should pay to relocate some of the peolpe who lost their homes and let them build them some a bit more sensable . FEMA didn't just come up with a fake press conference instantly, they had to coordinate with their reporters (term is very loosely used, then have the gall to say I'm sorry. Give me a break. Also all of your phone numbers, where you work ,your insurance information, a complete description of your home with photos of the exterior and interior.
This has been and is now being taking place so if down the road you and your spouse and children have their Identity stolen look no further than the FEMA Application for disasters assistance.

The proof of what I am saying is in the court documents on the www.femasbest.com web site under unemployment insurance and the National Security complaint.
FEMA’s fake 'news conference'

I am sure that they didn't want to answer questions about the fires being started by the fine "undocumented criminals" which are allowed to enter our country at the rate of nearly 10,000 per day.

We wouldn't want to take the spotlight away from OJ and Paris Hilton. The plan is to keep the lemmings distracted by celebrity antics.

FEMA’s fake 'news conference'

Hey jerry/corpus,where are you on this one?You have defended every move the White House has ever made. When the truth is recognized by Chertoff, but not the people at 1600,where is s the outrage?Limbaugh is silent,Coulter is mute,Buchannan(sp)is flabbergasted, meanwhile,NOTHING from the decider. Is 1600 mute since Rove deserted a sinking disaster?

FEMA’s fake 'news conference'

I hope all this blogging resolves the issue.

FEMA’s fake 'news conference'

Silence. From 1600 the silence is deafening. For approximately 2800 days and nights, every media in the world, has been focused on an illegitamate President, with NOTHING but lies to show the world.More income has been donated to this evil pursuance than the greatest hoax in history, the McCarthy Era.Stop the death, end the killing in your name.Stop this evil monkey before he desytroys your Grandchildrens existence! Please America, vote your conscience, not your party!Call your local official, and remind him,an untainted vote trumps one thousand bullets!Beware brothers and sisters.Be very, very scared.

FEMA’s fake 'news conference'

One question, have the Republicans ever done anything wrong?
