So, on the one hand we've got story after story from MSNBC on the Bush administration's secrecy about Iraq et al, but on the other, one is casually ridiculed when he complains about the Government's penchant to keep a decades worth of secrets on UFOs (going back to the 1940s).

I'd sure that Mr. Montanaro was this tough with Mr. Richardson on those issues like his crazy health care plan, or the idea that precipitously raising taxes improves economic growth.

Given that Mr. Richardson was a very high ranking official in the Clinton administration, I'd imagine that his opinion on this subject (UFOs) is just a bit more informed than Mr. Montanaro. Perhaps Mr. Montanaro, rather than engaging in a thinly veiled ad hominem attack would instead present his readers with the reasons why he believes Mr. Richardson is incorrect in his assertion. Then again, in doing so, Mr. Montanaro might be considered a journalist...and God forbid, we can't have people like that in the media anymore.

I don’t know what Kucinich saw but I am sure he saw something that he could not explain. Richardson is right we should declassify all the information on any incidents that have become Urban Legends. Listen folks, I don't know how many of you may have heard of Lieutenant Colonel Phillip J. Corso former Chief of Foreign Technology Division of the United States Department of Defense, but he wrote a book titled "The Day After Roswell" in which he claims that the Roswell event DID involve alien space-craft. Now listen, this man worked at the Pentagon folks!! He was the highest ranking offical to ever make this claim and while on his death bed, he testified that he had told the truth about the event in his book. I have read his book with some skepticism but it wasn't long before I could not ignore the distinct air of truth in his account. All of the pieces begin to fit together. His account is incredible and very compelling. A MUST READ!

I have seen a UFO - as did my entire family and a few friends. Whether or not it was of extraterrestrial origin or not, is another, albeit unanswered, question.

However, I see no reasonto NOT declassify Roswell. If nothing happened, what is there to hide? Whatever is there is PUBLIC property and belongs to the People of the United States. If we want to see it and there are no national security issues, then what's the big deal?

If anything "alien" really happened at Roswell, it will NEVER be declassified, regardless of who is president. Official acknowledgement of alien visits would have such profound inplications for national security, that no responsible government would ever do it, unless forced to by the aliens. Lets take two obvious consequences:
- Foreign powers would demand disclosure of all technical info that the US governemnt knows, and would back up those demands with real serious pressure
- Foreign powers would attempt to make contact and deals with alien powers in order to give themselves an unbeatable advantage over the US. Just imagine if the Islamic people joined a Galactic Empire in order to be able to crush all infidel powers. Analogous the Cardassian Empire joining the Dominion in Star-Trek DS9.

Do you really believe that the only way we will ever have proof of ET is from the folks at SETI? These guys are looking for "Smoke Signals".

Radio signals only travel the speed of light. So it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that in order to communicate over the vast distances of space one would have to obtain technology greater than current rocket propulsion and electromagnetic radio communication.

As soon as the folks at SETI figure this one out, maybe they can think of the possible ways to look for ET.

It was de-classified. I think in 1995. They revealed that the "flying saucers" were just very large disc microphones that were listening in the upper atmospheric sound channel for detonation of Soviet nukes. When one of the balloons that held the disc microphones aloft crashed the UFO story in the paper served to cover up the fact that the USA had the capability to detect atmospheric nuclear testing and they did not want the USSR to know this, so they let the story stand while not-so-convincingly denying it. What amazes me is that Governer Richardson doesn't know this.

There's an excellent book on the subject called UFO's and the National Security State by Richard Dolan http://www.keyholepublishing.com/ which documents quite clearly that the government/military is aware of the UFO presence.

Although the selection of a Democratic Presidental Candidate is not going to be decided by the UFO issue, I think the topic is amusing. I always enjoy the Chris Matthews show when I am not working during the televised hours, so I have no criticism of his news program.

During these UFO discussions, I was prompted to recall that in Bridgeport, CT during the 1960's there were a series of incidents of the UFO's observed hovering over the City Hall building on a series of nights. Across the street is the Eisenhower Building and old American Legion Post Building. Today, the old American Legion Post building is now vacant. Back then, the old American Legion Post Building contained an extensive collection of knight's armour and accoutrements which have since disappeared. It was said that Sir Lancelot's Excalibur sword was hidden in the collection.

I have not been able to locate the reports in the local newspaper archives. However, citizens flocked to the downtown area to observed the UFO's. I was a child then so I only followed the radio and local news reports at home.

To make a long winded blog comment short, my suspicioun is that if that Bridgeport UFO event was true, they certainly were not hovering to entertain the citizens of this City. My thought all these years later is that it was the proximity of the antiquities collection.
