She shows just how ignorant she is. Her job is to forge relationships with the other side, not chastize constantly. If they dont come together it will always be a stalemate. I dont believe the country as a whole put Dems in power because they love them, I think some was just punishing the Repubs for acting like democrats. This country is majority to the right, I dont care how you twist polls, taht is the way it has always been. If the democrats have such a mandate and have so much backing, then why cant they get anything through. Clinton got a few things through with a Republican Congress. The oil industries will reap a last gluttonous amount of money before we run out of fossil fuels. That is also why Saudi Arabia is real nervous of the future, their leverage in the world will diminish and then they will have an uprising on their hands that will make the wars to spread the muslim religion seem like childs play. Ms. Impeachment-is-off-the-table-before-she-even-took-office Pelosi is saying she doesn't think Congress is doing well due to the Iraq war. Right?

First Read says "Yet Pelosi said that she, too, doesn't approve of the job that Congress is doing. She was asked why, despite recent efforts by Democrats to tout their accomplishments this year, Congress has such a low approval rating. You might say her answer was counterintuitive.

"I don't approve of Congress, because we haven't been effective in ending the war in Iraq," she said, adding that "if you asked me in a phone call" from a pollster, she would herself be counted in the disapproval column."

Well - here is what Ms. Pelosi said last month (note the part about ending the war. Leaders. Right.):

Comments would be superfluous. Sigh.

The Washington Post's Dana Milbank reports on a lunch for reporters where House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was surprisingly candid:

"Look," she said, the chicken breast on her plate untouched. "I had, for five months, people sitting outside my home, going into my garden in San Francisco, angering neighbors, hanging their clothes from trees, building all kinds of things--Buddhas? I don't know what they were--couches, sofas, chairs, permanent living facilities on my front sidewalk." Unsmilingly, she continued: "If they were poor and they were sleeping on my sidewalk, they would be arrested for loitering, but because they have 'Impeach Bush' across their chest, it's the First Amendment."

"We have to make responsible decisions in the Congress that are not driven by the dissatisfaction of anybody who wants the war to end tomorrow," Pelosi told the gathering at the Sofitel, arranged by the Christian Science Monitor. Though crediting activists for their "passion," Pelosi called it "a waste of time" for them to target Democrats. "They are advocates," she said. "We are leaders."

"What do you see as your greatest mistake?" asked one reporter. Pelosi smiled. "Why don't you tell me?" she proposed. She smiled again, then laughed. " 'Cause I think we're doing just great."

Source: (by way of WSJ Opinion Journal) Wash Post - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...7100902006.html

Pelosi fires back at Bush

"Maybe you should have run real Liberals for those seats you picked up instead of conservatives. Nancy has obnly been in office for 10 months. You cant reasonable expect her to turn the past 6 yrs of drunken spending by the republicans around in that short a period of time.

2. Someone comments that Bush has made us safe on our soil. HOW? The time frame between the first WTC boming and the second was 8 yrs. In between that time what was bin laden doing? PRACTICING. What is he doing NOW? PRACTICING! By my calender and watch Bin laden is right on schedule.

3. You can tell who on this message board failed Civic class. The Constitution vested the congress with the duty of OVERSIGHT of the executive branch. So u are mad because congress is doing its job.

4. You can cut off the funding for the war today. Troop withdrawel can ONLY be done by the President. How many of you think Bush would move the troops because they cut off funding? There is enough money in the pipeline that Bush could keep the troops there without the supplemental funding from the congress.

5. The congress is split almost evenly down the middle. Nancy is getting things passed on the house side. its the senate side with the problem. So Dems in order to really change policy they will need a filibuster proof senate and 2/3's in the house, or a Dem president. Looks like we might get all 3.

6. Impeaching Bush would mean nothing at this moment in time. You dont have the numbers in the senate to remove him from office. Why not wait until say Dec 2008 to impeach him? Add insult to injury as we snatch the white house from his party.

Pelosi fires back at Bush

I think a crucial point is being overlooked with regard to Congress' low approval rating. This Congress' rating is directly tied to the prez low ratings. Essentially, people are mad because Congress can not contain the power-mad man in the WH! Americans desperately want someone to stop the madness and so far Congress has been unable to do it -- mainly because of the Republicans in Congress who say the prez is wrong on many issues, but continue to back his play when it comes to a vote.

As far as those who commented that Pelosi should just shut up -- maybe she would if Bush does. She seems to only be responding to his petulant rhetoric over the past couple of weeks because he is upset that Congress is doing their job: OVERSIGHT. And if any executive branch occupant needed strict oversight, it's Bush. This admin legacy will be secrecy, expansion of executive powers, bypassing congress, and of course the Iraq debacle! Bush is a law unto himself and must be stopped --soon before we find ourselves in another war with Iran. He's got bombs and he by gollee seems to want to drop them (specifically on countries without them). What a hero!

Throw the bums out in '08. And Sierra: You're absolutely right - --A real republican won't compromise. That's the way to get things done for the whole country, all 300 million people with different interests -- No compromise, that's the ticket.

Pelosi fires back at Bush

MK Rawlings, you don't work and play well with others do you.
