Giuliani is going to try to distance himself from Kerik, saying he didn't know anything. But that shouldn't fly among serious people. This isn't just someone Giuliani knows. Kerik is someone Giuliani trusted enough to go into business with. It's hard to believe that Rudy has the judgment required to be president, especially when Kerik is taken in conjunction with the other bad decisions Rudy make while mayor, his penchant for lying about his nonexistent focus on terrorism prior to 9/11, and the general looniness of most of his recent statements.

What did Rudy know? And when did he know it?

What should Rudy have known? And when should he have known it?

How much was Kerik making at the time? Did Rudy ever go to Kerik's apartment? If so, would any reasonable person have asked "where'd you get the money for this?"

Sen. Bob Torricelli claimed to have no knowledge of how a grandfather clock appeared in his house. But he should have known... and his lack of asking an obvious question was, IMHO, his downfall.

Chuck Todd... get Russert and Matthews on this... they're probably the only two willing to ask real questions.

When I was growing up my dad used to remind me that when I got to be an adult, people will judge me first by the people I run around with. The real question isn't what Rudy knew about Bernie. It isn't important now or ever. The real question is what does Bernie know about Rudy. He started out as a lowly cop serving as Rudy's chauffeur. Then he quickly gets one promotion after another until he is in charge of the huge NYPD. Does that sound suspicious? I think it sounds much more than suspicious. Rudy will most certainly pardon Bernie, under tacit threat of exposure. But, I suspect Rudy will prevail upon Bush to pardon Bernie on the last day of the Bush administration.

My suspicion is that Rudy is as mobbed-up as Bernie; that's what this is all about.
